Sara Baig Designs | Flowers . Events . Gifts
i’ve also posted her info in Bazaar Talk. she’s very good and very reasonably priced!
amirza, i think chandni provides basic decor… talk to Sara Baig though- she did a wedding there last year and it was very pretty and on a very small budget- you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you see! ask her to email you pics of the stage she did.
Re: (Toronto) Getting Married Next Year and So Far No Venue I Like ![]()
I checked out the new Chandni hall last week and it isn’t as grand as the original Chandni, but it is gorgeous in its own way from the entrance and into the hall. The hall is much smaller than the original as well. It would a great location for mehndi. I’m also having my wedding in July at Candles and my mehndi will be at Maple Banquet. My uncle knows the people there so we really got an awesome deal and were able to cut some major costs. The hall itself is great for smaller size mehndi’s like mine.
Stage Setup:
My shaadi decorator is the in-house decorator for Candles. Her name is Shaheen Iqbal, I still have yet to meet with her but I have seen her stage setup from other weddings and she does a nice job. If anyone would like her number please let me know, you can contact her and she will send you some of her work.
DJ:
My DJ is DJ Naf Entertainment who are providing me with a Pakistani DJ. To be honest I booked them way in advance when I shouldn’t have because compared to some others they are a little pricey. Their charging me $600 JUST for the shaadi and were charging an extra $500 for the mehndi? and thats with his $100 off discount if I booked his wife for decor. Her decor company is called Far East Decor. Regardless I regret booking with them because their ridiculously expensive but what can I do now. Later on I found out my cousins friend would of also done the job for BOTH events in $200. Now that is probablly because we personally know him but now I am considering him because even if I canceled with DJ Naf, I would STILL be saving from the deposit I gave them. lol. Thank god I only gave them $200 not the $300 he was originally asking for. Anyways, sorry for the rant..just kind of kicking myself about that… lol
Makeup/Hair:
Anyways, my makeup lady is Seher Sultan. Very reasonable as well and does a great job.
Flower Garlands:
Now I need someone for phool ke haar and flower earings for my mehndi. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I contacted one lady named Nigi’s Creations who apperently makes them but she never returned my email.
Mehndi:
My friend is doing my mehndi, Sarah Hussain, she is abs amazing and if anyone would like her contact, send me a private message.
Shaadi Dhol Players:
I hired a dhol person to accomany the Baraats entrance and again…compared to DJ NAF..his prices were much better. They are a young group of Punjabi Guys that provide this service and he was so nice and all he needed from me was the date of my event to book. Hes charging me $120/per hour which is all we needed them for and its two dhol players if I remember correctly that come to play…where as the dhol player that DJ Naf quoted me on was charging me $175 or something “From the Limo to the Stage” as I quote. ugh! lol Anyways heres the contact for the dhol players I hired. Really nice guys!

I think I’ve covered it all for now, if anymore questions, feel free to ask!
PS. can someone please suggest someone for making the flower jewelery and garlands in a reasonable rate?
Thanks!

Re: (Toronto) Getting Married Next Year and So Far No Venue I Like :(
laila also does decor at a reasonable rate. just tell her afshan recommended her. I know you got decor for the hall, but its also nice to decorate your home too - the stairs, main entrance. Italians do that - and when my brother got married, our Italian neighbours decorated our home too. Laila also does this too.
she's really nice and sweet and has done decor several times for my family and friends.
oh i know Shaheen - shes my cousin's good friend. I only met her once, but shes really nice. I think her inlaws own Oriental Costumes.
the Far East Decor girl and hubby are my brother's good friends. He DJ'ed at my cousins' wedding. It was alright. I'm really really picky in music for me he was just alright. If your picky like me, give him a list of what songs u want to be played.
Also I manage a charitable mehndi business - where me and my sister do mehndi for mehndi parties and for the bride. All the profits made go to building a new masjid. If your interested contact me.
Hey Afsi! Thanks for the suggestions! I am a little picky about the music but I don't think he is DJing my wedding himself. I think he is getting one of his Pakistani DJs for our event. I still have yet to meet with him so lets see what happens!
I also contacted Laila for some centerpiece decor.
I also sent you an email regarding mehndi, hope to hear from you soon! :)

My sister is getting married at chandni (the new one) in Sept..I think they're providing basic stage decor and basic centre pieces (vases + flowers) - but we're making our own centrepieces & hiring a decorator for the stage / cake table

Re: (Toronto) Getting Married Next Year and So Far No Venue I Like :(
Congradulations.
My cousin just got married and this one Videographer/Photographer that did the wedding was amazing, I can show you an album of the wedding he did for my friend as well, its super amazing. They are desi and have been in the buisness for over 20 yrs and being desi know exactly how to make it work and the prices are usually depending on the budget of the couple. You should give them a call (904)613-3183 and I think the persons name is Sammi. I hope this helps
Anyone here been to the Argonaut Rowing Club or the Heintzman House for a wedding?
i checked with the Argos for my brother's reception. they are not priced too high but i think they had issues with us catering the food, although i can't remember 100% now. either way, i wasn't impressed.
i haven't checked with Heintzman House but if you are looking for an outdoor wedding at an estate, check out Graydon Hall and Parkwood Estate too. Parkwood is in Oshawa and i got married there- its so beautiful the compliments still keep coming almost 3 years after the day mA! plus in Oshawa means its much more reasonably priced than a Toronto venue. Graydon Hall is super super expensive but also beautiful.

Thanks SGC - Yes, I did check out Graydon hall : it's super expensive (and ofcourse gorgeous!)
Me and the FH are going to check out Heintzman, Bella Banquets, La Primavera & the Kortright Centre this week.
I looked into Parkwood Estates, but I don't think they allow outside catering?
If you don't mind me asking - how much were you quoted per person?
Re: (Toronto) Getting Married Next Year and So Far No Venue I Like :(
Bella is nice for a mehndi.
i got engaged in woodbine about 3 years, it's not that great but decor can really make a big difference, plus people stil talk about food.

Honestly, Bella Banquets is so-so... I wasn't impressed with the interior or the exterior. I think hubby and I both felt it was a bit too rustic for us and I wasn't feeling the round room. Plus they have these really steep stairs going up- so if you have older guests, its not ideal.
Kortright was the first place we checked out but their indoor area is on the small side- in particular their gazebo. We really wanted to be as outdoors as possible so we didn't even consider their room - its all wood panelling and a gift shop so again, we weren't that impressed. On the plus side, they have a gorgeous area for outdoor ceremonies and pictures. They allow tents to be put up but it was proving way too $$ since tent companies charge per person for the tent and then you pay for catering on top of that.
You're right, Parkwood doesn't allow outside catering but their chefs did a great job planning the menu with us to fit the Pakistani-European thing we had going on lol. And let me tell you, in all honesty, their chefs made SUCH good steaks that to this day, everyone remembers them. And I mean, everyone. Even our photographers were reminiscing about them when I met up with them the other day and they were saying everyone always asks about our venue when they see their 'folio. Its really beautiful and they have parking on site and in the school across the street.
I would seriously consider their BBQ option for sure. I think we were at about $60-$70 per head, including the tent rentals/chairs/tables/cutlery/glassware, etc. and the food and taxes.
Our menu was a live bbq with chefs grilling made-to-order steak, we had oh gosh, I can't remember its an Italian dish- basically a spicy chicken and veggie saalan- we also had naan and other breads, eggplant ratatouille, Yorkshire pudding to go with the steaks, and a couple of other main dishes too that I can't remember now. We gave them the name of our halal butcher and they bought everything from there and everything they prepared was delicious and well-made. And I'm quoting our guests here- sadly, I ate very little. But if it helps, a couple of people would have been pretty honest if they hadn't liked the food but they had only good things to say too.
We had a plated summer berry salad to start with- this I did have and it was goood- and then the buffet with the BBQ and the rest. The cost also included a huge dessert table- basically 1 dessert per ten guests so we had 10 different kinds of cakes and pies and tarts and it was a huge hit.
The actual venue fee was $1400, if I remember correctly, and that also included our ceremony in the Sunken Garden. Now I got married in August 2007, so its probably gone up since then, but definitely if you can, pay a visit. You'll love it! :)
Oh and book before July 1st before the HST kicks in- it might give you some negotiating leverage in NOT paying the additional 8% tax grrrr so mad about that!

Wow, great info ! Thanks a lot :)
We'll probably go check out Parkwood Estates during the long weekend. Was your caterer Kings Court also? We want an afternoon reception - too bad their lunch & dinner menu has no price difference!
Went to go see Bella, Heintzman & La Primavera yest - liked Bella the most. Their interior is a bit antique looking which fits our wedding theme (vintage / antique)
Going to look at Chandni Gardens tomorrow!
