Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

Some people still believe the Army cleared Swat? Most people from Swat say that it was just a drama between the two. Had Swat been bordered by another country it would have been understandable. However, Swat neither shares a border with FATA or another country. I came across a sayiing in Pakistan - wherever this is a beautiful area in Pakistan, the army wants to take over and establish a base or cantonment there. The whole Swat debacle could have been stopped. It should not have happened. There is no need to thank the Army when they allowed it to fester in the first place. When the Army is thanked the higher ups take the credit but only the lower levels deserve praise. They are the ones that sacrifice and not for the large plots and pensions.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

^ yeah right, go there personaly, meet people, see their emotions and respect for army and then talk.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

The Army did clear Swat, but I agree with rest, they could have done it far sooner, and they helped to create the mess by not taking care of it sooner.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

is that good or bad according to you?

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

Just today there have been more attacks in Peshawar and adjoining areas 14 dead and more than 41 injured. A grenade attack on an engagement party in bannu in which a 3 year old girl died and 30 women injured. Also an attack on a mosque. The army is completely impotent.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

I don't know , I also remember 100 Malala burnt alive in Lal Masjid , I hate them who attacked Malala . I hate them who are destroying schools but these fools are from our permanent Mulla Military alliance . I am confused .

Re: Top commanders say ‘enough is enough’

The country is not more united over this attack. This is a false premise. Extreme measures such as banning Youtube or calling for the filmmaker’s death are not being undertaken, so how can you say that the country reacted more to this attack? My impressions are from reading the news and from speaking to relatives in Pakistan. Newspaper articles do not mean anything, even if 30 to 1 is actually true. What did people physically do? Not much. While for the movie, they took to the streets, in peaceful as well as violent protests, and actually had a day off to protest.

Stop putting word’s in my mouth. I want to see real action, not violent protests. I’m also disappointed that you think protesting a movie is more important than protesting a terrorist attack on an innocent girl. The former is about defending a slight on Islam that frankly, does not need defending. Islam does not need you. It will be fine without you. And you can’t silence every nut job in the world. The latter is about the state of law and order in your country, law and order that speaks to the safety of the country’s citizens, and the the likelihood of businesses succeeding. You clearly do not grasp this concept.

I agree with you over the drone attacks, they are illegal, but if the Pakistani government/army actually wanted to be rid of the Taliban the drone attacks wouldn’t be necessary.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

The Army did not clear Swat, the militants that mattered were allowed to leave.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

I have been there and know hundreds of people from Swat. I have talked to hundreds more. 99% knows that a game was under way of which the Pakistan Army and Government, under Musharaf at that time, are seen as responsible. The people were not foolish. They saw the proximity of the Army and Taliban check posts. They saw how they were sacrificed for a few more American dollars. The people of Swat were the most pro-Pakistan of the Pashtuns but now they have become the most anti-Pakistan. They are the most active online for Pashtunistan now.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

'enough is enough' .... 4 years out of government is too long!

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

No plans of military operation in North Waziristan: Malik

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday “categorically” dispelled any plans of launching a military offensive in North Waziristan and that no such proposal was “under consideration at the moment.”

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Malik said that whenever an operation is planned in North Waziristan, the military and civil leadership will take the decision together. “What matters the most is the opinion of the military commanders on ground. Without their opinion, no such operation will take place.”

He added that if a decision in this regard is taken then it will be made public, saying that the “charm of democracy is that every decision that the government takes comes before the public.”

‘Mehsud should disclose whether he’s injured, ill or has escaped’

Responding to a question regarding exposing the militants behind an attack on child activist Malala Yousufzai, Malik said that it was already revealed that the conspiracy to attack her was hatched by the Taliban stationed at the Pak-Afghan border.

“We have the names of the suspect, but we want to reveal who ‘actually’ carried out the attack, I repeat, who ‘actually’ carried out the attack,” he said.

As I said in another thread that "there is something spectacular about the Taliban that none of us know," and the military that has the most knowledge about them, doesn't know what to change the status quo.

Negotiations conducted from a position of weakness will bear no fruit and a half-hearted military action will also be a failure even before it takes off. Despite being hit by the Taliban in the most brutal way, nation also stands divided on any course of action. Army is bleating about wearing out its strength and economy is in a coma. Have you ever seen such a perfect Catch-22?

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

^ this should also put to rest some of the conspiracy theories...

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

so the operation is on hold?

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

^ nothing decided yet, it would not be an easy operation...

maybe in the end, they might go for a short objective/intelligence based one against TTP

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

yeah, they might just go for a limited operation. but I dont see how this would actually help them get rid of them all, because they will just run to the other side of the border.

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

I would love to see that — target killing. And if they can't do it themselves, they should get experts from Karachi. We have an amazing array of 'qualified hotshots' stationed in Karachi, why not make some use of the talent we are so flush with?

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

^ lol :D, I hope RM is reading this

Re: Top commanders say 'enough is enough'

maybe AH could help them provide those target killers that are roaming streets of Karachi these days.

Re: Top commanders say ‘enough is enough’

^ He had offered some to businessmen against extortionists. So it is safe to assume that the bulky Britisher could be quite handy for Pakistanis in this case.

By the way, if he ever becomes prime minister of Pakistan, will he be called British Prime Minister of Pakistan? :hmmm:
