Re: To set the record straight: the wife must obey her husband
yeah ok, put whatever spin you want on it, at end of the day islam asks the woman to be respectful/devoted/obediant to her husband. Thats the point im trying to convey.
A man has to work bloody hard to earn that respect and a devout love it doesnt come for free.

What if the husband is not able to maintain his wife's needs properly, say if he's disable or sick and can't earn money, does this mean woman should disobey him? (we know a lot of women are the maintainers of their households these days out of necessity)

Yeh that's fair. Dont get your panties in a twist - a man has great responsiblities towards her woman. With those responsiblities come the right to be respected/obeyed.

what do you think?
Re: To set the record straight: the wife must obey her husband
you can't force your wife to obey you even if you fulfil your responsibilities in maintenance, that's all I'm saying.
Well obviously you cannot force ANYONE to do ANYTHING. We live in a free country. My point was that its a woman's responsibility as per islam to obey her husband.

Yes I agree with that. If she feels that her husband has a valid reason then she should not object to it.
Re: To set the record straight: the wife must obey her husband
Mr.HotTea I love how you started off saying "A WIFE MUST OBEY HER HUSBAND" and after everyone corrected, you're now slowly coming around pretending to change your ideas by what you originally meant. It's okay to say you were wrong, it makes you a bigger person.
Yes in Islam we are required to "obey" our husband, but that obidience doesn't mean we are slaves or inferior. Before you start yapping away again, my husband studied in Zakariya Park in South Africa and they always say that a woman's rights come BEFORE a man can state his own. A lot of which woman do is simply for our reward like cooking, cleaning, taking care of the home, living with in-laws, we don't have to do any of these things. But if we want, a MAN must give us our haq because we have the RIGHT to our own space etc.
A relationship between a man and a woman is give and take, there is not "i'm higher then you" -
Here is 2 cents for you - don't get married
Consider this HotTea spilled on you!
Re: To set the record straight: the wife must obey her husband
at the end of the day, the wife has a RIGHT to disobey you and leave you if you are being unjust. and being unjust with her includes treating her like a slave. she's a WIFE, not a slave who should obey every command you say.
Re: To set the record straight: the wife must obey her husband
My husband isn’t my employer that I’d be his subordinate. We stand next to each other with pride and respect for each other. If he brings me food, I cook it; if he buys clothes, I wash them. Together-together we live in peace and harmony. Yeah when I’m outta control, he can get mad at me but if he’s out of control I have a right to complain. So no subordinate situation here.
