To farshi or not to farshi...

what do you think, girls?
a traditional gharara with a slightly-above-knee length kameez, or a longer kameez (mid calf length) and a farshi gharara?

in a traditional gharara, i’d get kaam on the gharara and keep the shirt fairly plain. in a farshi, i’d make the shirt pretty full of kaam and keep the gharara plain.

both styles would have very light dupatta’s.

please also note, i will iA be the sister of the groom, not the bride.

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

Second one!

Worked long kameez and plain gharara, u can make a shalwar/capri's with it later.

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

^^ brilliant

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

exactly...the second seems more attractive

amazing, i was abt to open a thread on this.. mite as well ask my qs here if thaz alrite with the original poster... thanks.

i am gonna wear my weddin gharara. i m 6 mnths preg and am makin a new kameez for this gharara. now... my gharara has nice work on knees side(like one big nice patti on each knee).. and then alot of work under it (till the gharara's paincha). i was wonderin how mch length will b gud for the kameez. i will b makin front open kameez with it. should the kameez be above ankle or below considerin there is nice kaam on the knee side? i m confused :S pls help! should i let the knee kaam hide by wearin a long kameez (which is in fashion) or just settle kameez above the knee? tankksssss

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

^ no no, if you have kaam on the knee, you have a traditional gharara, and i wouldnt do a lambi kameez. it will just look awkward. i would do a regular shirt, not front open, and it would end about 2" above the knee.

gina, i was thinking the same thing but wasn't sure if it would work with the colors i've chosen and/or if it would look too much considering i'm not the bride!
the colors would be a darker purple kameez, silvery-grey gharara, and then magenta piping on the gharara top and bottom, and probably a magenta dupatta. will that look odd with a darker shirt and a light bottom? it seems more balanced in a regular gharara.

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

Farshi, since I know you love 'em :p

But don't keep the kameez entirely plain- either bareek sa kaam on neckline, sleeves, daaman with bootiyan motifs all over, or do a front open.. the latter I think will look stunning with a farshi.

Re: To farshi or not to farshi…

^ haan if i do farshi, it’ll be full of kaam, the kameez, but delicate kaam.

this is the outfit i want to work with, basically but i’d keep the chiffon botton plain so its not OTT and keep the dupatta mostly plain too- maybe just a tiny bit of silver piping at the edges… http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/80452/PE2009_GoalFoziaHammad001.jpg

also, can i use small white pearls in the kaam if the colours are dark purple, silvery-grey, and magenta as an accent?

if i did the outfit as a traditional gharara, i’d use this design- http://www.friendskorner.com/watermark.php?src=forum/photopost/data/500/medium/chinyere-couture-2009-collection-10.jpg

hmmm so wots a farshi gharara? can u plsssssssssssss post pic :( so mine is traditional so it wudnt look gud wth front open? wot shud i do then? should i tell my tailor to do it normal way no front open? i asked him to make the length 36 which is merely 1 inch or less above knee.. thanks so mch SGC.. hugs!

Re: To farshi or not to farshi…

a farshi has the gote at midcalf, like this http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/80452/PE2009_GoalFoziaHammad001.jpg so a long shirt works.

you could fake a front open shirt so it allows for your belly but won’t show your thighs when you sit down. so the kameez would have an upside down pleat in it. like this look, starting from under your chest and down-
(http://www.dimensionsmaternity.com/p-/3200/center_pleat_skirt.html)

you could use same coloured material to keep it subtle, or contrast coloured to make it a design element.

or, depending on how good your tailor is, you could have a design like this where the shirt is cut to accommodate your belly- Free People Pleated Short Sleeve Tee at 6pm.com

these kind of pleats would also work http://www.apeainthepod.com/linkshare.asp?Media=linkshare&siteID=q5QZHUbCIj8-m.7RAjxZ8JBi1vB_UhRVmg&surl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apeainthepod.com%2FProduct.asp%3FProduct_Id%3D174470001%26MasterCategory_Id%3DMC1

or you could have an empire waist shirt- Short Sleeve Square Neck Pleated Maternity T Shirt | A Pea in the Pod

omg SGC....... ure sooooo helpful thanks alot!!!!! i liked the center pleat skirt type wherein u have the slit under the chest area... now im sooooo confused :( if i go for this one then it means my kameez cannot b v long rite.. as u said earlier, with the traditional gharara my kamez shud b atleast 2 inches above knee so maybe i shud just go with that. u know wot, the prb is before goin to tailor i didnt know there were 2 kinda ghararas. i hd seen sooooooo many pics of girls in ghara with long shirts that i thot i shud do it too since its in fashion. so blindly iwas doin it. thanks SGC for lettin me know i was wrong. so i guess it shud b just regular above knee kamez na... thatll b better. wot do u suggest?

here’s an outfit my mil got made for me.. i was a bit skeptical when she told me about the pearl kaam on purple but when i saw it, it was stunning. it’s a deep purple shade with heavy silver and pearls kaam all over neckline, sleeves, daaman, and rest of the shirt.. here’s one of the motifs:

I say: To Farshi:) Most of us have worn regular ghararas all throughout our life and farshi is fresh change to that. hmmm purple, silver and magenta remind me of that pretty Bunto outfit (think u like it too)..with the beige shirt. If not sure abt silver, you can also have a lavender shade. Have a Nayna outfit that is plum and lightens to become a light lavender. It has silver pearl kaam on it as well and looks nice! The color combination of this bag is quite harmonious…

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

Long long shirt with a farshi gharara :)

gasp gorgeous! Par, send me close up’s of that kaam stat! haha channelling a bit of hubby there for ya :stuck_out_tongue:

you’re welcome!
i’d do the shorter shirt with the center pleat, yeah. and start the pleat just under your chest, from the middle point down.
depending on how you are planning to wear your dupatta, you can keep the kaam light or do a heavy border around the neckline. if you are planning to drape the dupatta across the belly, then do a nice border + butiyan on the dupatta and keep the shirt plain.
i’d keep the material soft and pure silk so it has some drape but make sure either there is kaam on the daaman to weigh the silk down or use a heavier weight silk so it drapes over your belly properly. and probably make sure the fitting is good from the back, with proper darts and pleats so it doesn’t look shabby.

there’s also a lovely karma outfit with an empire waistline- the josephine bridal- that would also look pretty if you combined the look with the upside down pleat… its the outfit below, but there are also other pics of it- ladies, help me out here please- there’s a pic of a bride wearing this all in white, she’s got a very sweet face and is smiling… if that rings any bells?

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

I would go with the farshi gharara...however, unless you're tall, I would bring up the hemline of the shirt a few inches. In my experience, farshi ghararas with mid-calf length shirts tend to make average/short people look shorter as the shirt just becomes overwhelming. I think farshis look better on most people if the shirt hits just below the knee.

^ good point! i’m 5’2" but will probably be in 4" heels, so keep the shirt about 2" below the knee and no lower? i want long chaakein and kaam all the way up, like most karma shirts are. not sure about front open though… hrm… i prefer that look with lehengas, i think, not ghararas.

good points! where’s the Nayna outfit? i wanna see! yeah i was thinking of keeping the silver such that is has slight purple undertones so its not a very cool blue-grey silver but a warmer shade.

Re: To farshi or not to farshi...

2" below the knee should work well. I agree about the open front shirt...that look is definitely more suited for lehengas.
