Even if you have segregated parties, where the males don't get to see the girls dance in person, they'll just get to see it when they are watching the wedding video. I know of many girls who got rishtas because the men in the family watched them dance in the wedding video.

Re: To Dance or Not To Dance…?
I see. You remind me of our sikh family friends who got a minor heart attack when we told them that the majority of Pakistanis don’t condone dancing infront of na-mehrams due to religious reasons. Now we all know what a lively bunch the sikhs are, they just need an excuse to do bhangra anywhere and everywhere. So their reaction was “Hawww
Tey fer tussi ki karde ho?! Hawww gidda v nai??
” … “We stare at people and eat and go home and diss-cuss the people we were staring at… y’know the usual desi stuff.” ![]()

Re: To Dance or Not To Dance...?
It's just basic kunjarpouna as my daddi would say.
We have one set of cousins who always put on these elaborate shows where they dance their socks off, we call them then 'the entertainment'.
I got roped into one of these shows many years ago and I basically did my own little dance which was definately a crowd pleaser but my cousin, Maduri, was not pleased. I was thefore banned from all family dances. Now I just sit and jeer when appropriate.
P.s the wardrobe malfunctions are AWESOME when it comes to aunties dancing.
