Amigo you acknowledge the fact that you understand that the purpose of this forum is to discuss religion. You say that you are openminded. You say that as far as personal attacks and veiled insults go we should take action. You admit that threads regarding such issues usually lead to personal attacks, and the defamation of religious beliefs, figures, and teachings. You admit that it is difficult at times for most including yourself to refrain from responding in likewise behaviour. However, some of you still believe that discussion should continue despite those facts.
When people refuse to acknowledge the right of another person to believe whatever it is they wish to believe and therefore engage in ceaseless arguments that lead nowhere except perhaps to insults and personal attacks it cannnot be called a debate nor can it be classified as a 'good' discussion or a discussion at all for that matter.
Freedom of expression, is does not mean having a license to libel or defame at whim.
This forum is a place where people come to share information, learn from each other, and even debate. It is NOT a place to indulge in personal attacks or crusades defaming another's beliefs, values, and religion.
I was out of this discussion, as I thought GFQ had made a good point that this section should be a place to get educated about differing belief systems, and not a place to mud-sling each others’ religion or sect or leanings.
Watcher makes a useless point by insisting that Islam is the “only” true religion. He infuriates others who may not think that. His books and Hadiths may be right to him, but he has no right to say that his is the “only” right way. To him it may be. But for him to believe that all other are not “right” he is self serving his unscrupulousness that he gets by reading these fallacious materials. I will leave it there for him to picture it.

I conclude by reading your post that you stopped sect-related discussion due to the fact that it defames other religions and some fellow guppers here are solely to talk degradingly about other beliefs and peoples. Ok, maybe I am repeating my words, but I have personally felt that my Iman has become much stronger by participating in such discussions. I feel that it is necessary to distinguish right from wrong, and bring the wicked ideas and interpretation of these devient sects to light. I often living here in the west have to cope with western people questioning Islams authencity and reliablity by referring to weird laws and rules (like mutah). I feel that a lot of threads have enlightened what true Islam is, the essence of it, and how people are able to distort and twist the words of the Quran, Prophet to promote their hypocratic and incostistent beleifs under the name of Islam.
You must remember that religious matters have initiated wars and battle through history. A lot of people in the west also beleive that Islam was spread through violent crusades and barbaric arabians with swords and long beards, yelling the name of Allah while slaughtering every living thing on their way. We know (or we should) that this wasn’t so, but were in a great extent self defence. The meaning of saying this is that I believe a lot of threads are not attacks, but merely threads to defend the truth.
I still dont believe that a moratorium is the solution. Instead people posting replies with inproper behaviour could have THEIR post deleted so that they rephrase and repost, or that they are banned for a day or two in posting to the thread/forum. It needs to be regulated I think. Dont you agree ?
Your conclusion is partly right. Yes the presence of insultive and degrading behaviour, which not only perpetuated an atmosphere of intolerance and disrespect, but also subsequently lowered the tone of the forum, was only one of the factors which initiated this moratorium.
You say your iman became much stronger by participating in such discussions. I ask you should imam be strengthening by attacking others?
For discussions they were NOT in any given sense of the word. Engaging in ceaseless arguments that lead nowhere, that serve as a site for insults and personal attacks, is not the same as having a discussion or a debate.

If i remember correctly, wars in islam are fought against oppression, they are fought so that one has the freedom to practice one's religion. You say that you believe a majority of the threads are not attacks but in defense of the truth.
Amigo, as you insist equating this to wars, I say to you that even in war there are rules, set standards that one must abide by and follow. And likewise in this forum there are rules and standards that must be followed.
And as specific members have repeatedly shown on these forums that they cannot abide by those conditions, hence the moratorium.

Why is he/she warning me when NYA started this and he started insulting me. It should both of us who should receive a warning why just me? Because he is a moderator, doesn’t mean he can insult anyone with dirty language and gets away with it. He has done this many times, I never see any one warning him. WHy just the members, why not warn the moderator as well who is responsible for starting this issue. After all I gave my opinion, so he should too, but no instead of doing that he insults me and makes “personal remarks” you seem to have no problem with that. :rolleye:
What sort of moderators are you guys, one has problem respecting other members and other one has problem seeing who is right and who is wrong and who really is at fault.

Watcher, you were addressed because of your past history. You have already been restricted once based on your attitude, and you seem to keep defying that, which is why i guess the admin targeted you. And frankly, I too have yet to see any post by you that doesnt contain a reference to 'them shias', or 'those imams and their books' or some member of this board.
Such responses will only lead u into another banishment, so why risk that? why not just change ur behavior once and for all? Why cant u simply write down the info that u intend to pass on, and be with it without referring to anyone in particular? If someone incites you into an argument, for once, be the bigger man and learn to ignore it. But your inability to do that is what gets you in trouble, and frankly, the majority of the members on this board dont care for that kind of an attitude. So you are in the minority. Its not as if we are asking you to change your religion. We are asking you to mellow down your tone, something that is a very vital part of the religion that you so heavily tout on this forum.
