Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

8 month old babies don’t drink that much water anyway. Call your doctor immediately!

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

This happened to a cousin of mine. The mom totally ruined his head and he looked like an alien. He was around the same age as your baby. What my nani did was more extreme than what I did, but she worked with harder bones so I guess that was reason. She would make him lie with head on harder surface than just a book. She used a “pirch”, meaning a tea cup plate or saucer. And she ignored his crying. I don’t know how she kept him still in it. My advice is, OIL his head, wait till he is deep asleep (I know babies do sleep for upto six hours at this age at least once a day)

OILING makes bones softer or whatever. Helps in head shaping.

If I can guess, I know his head is probably “long” now. What you do is, put a roll of towel under his neck when asleep on his back. That will tip the head BACK, and then lie him back with tip of head touching the headboard, or any firm wall behind FIRMLY.

You are his mom. It is YOUR job to help the baby. Try this. You can do it. All is NOT lost. At least you can fix it a bit.

And ALWAYS make him sleep flat on his back with head on something hard. Whenever he is asleep adjust his head so it is facing the ceiling. These things may help situation somewhat if not completely.

And five months back I was shaping my own baby’s head hehe. Sorry! He is seven months now

How does a shaped head look like? Any pics?

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

alishaht, a shaped head should be “baitha howa” meaning “sitting”. Means the back of the head, entire back, should not bulge outwards too much. If you note, we have a bony protuberance at base of the skull called the occiput. In some people it protrudes too much. That should not be there. And not should the head look conical from the top:

Compare these two pictures for reference.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Basically in head shaping, you keep kid flat on back for first three months, Back of head goes totally flat then like picture on left. But it shouldn’t prorude to the top. Then when the kid begins tummy time, some slight roundness comes to the back of the head, though not as much as picture on right.

There are TWO factors of headshaping girls. ONE, shaping head itself. TWO and MORE important, NOT RUINING A GOOD SHAPE by allowing baby to sleep on one side too much, by supporting head in crook of elbow while picking up (cup head in a hand instead)

How everyone will come pushing you to do things their way and their stories of "hum to aise kertay thay.."will never end.

How you will be criticized for everything you do differently than the norm. Be prepared to take a stand.

You can almost completely avoid the late pregnancy back pain between your shoulder blades that’s brought on by the bulging tummy. How? Wear a maternity belt! Honestly its such a life savor. I started wearing one near the end of my seventh month for both pregnancies and it seriously makes a world of difference.

And any day that I forget to put it on, I can feel the pain at the end of the day which makes me appreciate the belt all the more.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

-Morning sickness lasts all day and night.
-Digestion trouble.
-Gas!!!
-Diarrhea
-You may end up hating even the sight of food you once enjoyed!
-What pregnancy glow? I am dealing with more breakouts here!
-You will probably consider taking your pillow to the bathroom and sleep there at night.
-Too many unwanted suggestions like don’t clean your bathroom when pregnant. Ermm, ok lady, I can’t use a bathroom that has not been cleaned up for months.
-Nag your doctors/medical staff for more care if you feel you need it. Nothing wrong with it.
-You should call your doctor or go to the Emergency if you notice any spotting. Pain or no pain. Just do that.

Oh, and there is nothing glamourous about pregnancy and labor like on TV and movies.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Very true @all comments

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

So looking pretty glamorous is during labor is possible:

Woman Applies Full-Face Makeup While In Labour

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

1- worst digestion issues
2- heartburn in last trimester
3- gallstones due to increased levels of progestron
4- worst worst and worst ligament pains
5- dark skin colour
6- pain of stitches after c section

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

-Constipation!!! Psyllium husk (ispaghol) and qehwa really help though.
-Dry, flaky, sensitive skin (still no glow!)
-Avoid hot water on belly, hot baths/showers.
-Belly pops out much slower if you are a FTM, because muscles are stronger.
-You can actually feel your heart beat in your stomach! It is not the baby, but your own heartbeat apparently. :\
