As a first time mom i have made so many mistakes which i dont want others to make so starting this topic. Please add all things experiences and lessons learned. It might help many first time moms
As from me my baby is just 5 months and what i learned or no one told me was
- Labour is no doubt painfull but best thing is it does get over and we do have guts to give birth. More difficult is breastfeeding.
- I took epidural at 4cm which didnot work on me an i ended up in pain and vaccum delivery. And to this date even after 5 months i feel pain on that part of backbone. I know everyone has his own experience with epidural.
- Mastitis. I never knew this word unless i went through it. Be well aware of it before birth if u plan to breastfeed.
- Start giving your baby a bottle right from the second month (1st month can cause nipple confusion). If u plan to breastfeed exclusivly then pump and give bottle once a day atleast. This helps your baby to be fmiliar with bottle and anyone can feed from bottle so can get sleep for an hour or two. Also its easier to give from bottle in public places where u might not feel comfortable bf.
I didnt give mine bcz i had over production issue so fed only direct. I tried to give her bottle at 3 months she didnt take it. Kept on trying of n on still never takes it. - Swadle swadle swadle. It keeps baby so comfortable.
- Put your baby direct on zameen from the first day with a carpet or patla gadda underneath. Baby will learn to hold neck n eventually crawl very soon.

Newborns are the easier to handle than toddlers

OMG so true…!!..No one told me that either…![]()
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
Childbirth is painful/near death experience. Take epidural (I didn’t).
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
For me it was about breastfeeding… specially after c-section…someone should have told me that the milk production is low and slow for c-secs at the beginning!
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
Breastfeeding pain is way more than labor pain. Only the ones who stick to it are successful.
True makd
Agree with all of this ![]()
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
Breastfeeding issues.. number one on my list. Epidural doesn’t work on everyone the same way. Diapers are damn expensive
. No one told me I’ll have major bathroom issues after having my baby
.. Probably the most painful part in my recovery process.
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
Am I the only mom here who never had any breastfeeding issues? That was the easiest part for me..in fact, it was so easy I made the mistake heydou pointed out in #4…I never introduced a bottle because breastfeeding was so easy for me and I had an umm…abundant supply, so what ended up happening is that my firstborn was glued to my side 24/7. I couldn’t leave him anywhere because he got into the habit of nursing himself to sleep. Had I pumped and introduced him to the bottle, I think it would have been much easier to wean him off..that was a total nightmare! he nursed until he was 14 months old!
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
hmm, well regarding pregnancy, no one told me it was possible to get diarrhea with constipation at the same time.
no one told me i would still look (and feel) 5 months pregnant after delivery.
no one told me my breasts would leak and hurt while breastfeeding and that the skin would come my nipples (disgusting i know)
no one told me postpartum pooping would be hellish and no one told me there was something called a stool softener that i could take to make my pain less.
no one told me my stomach would turn black after delivery and that it was normal.
no one told me that some (or most) babies don’t sleep through the night after 3 months. (mine still doesnt)
no one told me that parenting gets more challenging as the child grows (i thought it would become easier)
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
really? I thought that was just me!!!
Coz I became so black the last few months of my pregnancy..so I thought it was normal for my tummy to look like that too!
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
No one told me:
-
How hard it would be to get up in the middle of the night every two hours to feed the baby with a fresh c-section incision

-
How sleep deprived I would especially in the first month…oh I still am

-
How I should’ve bought endless amount of lottery tickets before having kids

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
No one told me that I wouldn’t have an instant love for my child
No one told me that for the first 40 or so days I would forget what it was like to sleep or eat
No one told me that breastfeeding isn’t as natural as we would expect and requires a lot of hard work and pain
No one prepared me for all the opposition I faced against breastfeeding from husband and family
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
@ all the comments!
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
^ it’s ok!!!
No one also told me that my child would love me with a purity and single mindedness that I only got from my mommy, and that I am going to be his favorite ever person. You seriously BASK in that glow!
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
If breastfeeding hurts, you’re doing it wrong. Make an appointment with a lactation specialist. Baby is probably not latching on right.
Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
- After a vaginal delivery your bladder is out of control!! So start doing those kegels!
Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting
