Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

I got to the end of the first page and have given up. The reason no one tells you these things is that they would stress you out incredibly.
I dnt wanna know. :crying:

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

^ You need to know these things. Forewarned is forearmed. GTG I gave birth in Lahore in one of the purported best hospitals according to most Pakistanis. Pure crap.

No one also told me how to deal with breast engorgement. What I was told was to use a “desi” pump, an archiac torture device, to painfully pump out milk and when this was done on me, not only was the pain worse than labor, but it led of course to rebound engorgement.

Heck you cannot even train a six month old! They will do what they want WHEN they want and if you doubt that, just wait till one of their “wants” clashes with yours.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

No one who should have told me to get up and walk ASAP post c section, did.
Thank God for MoodieFoodie who yelled at me from afar to WALK WALK WALK no matter how much it hurts! Thanks to her I got on my feet soon as I had sensation back in my legs and she possibly sped up my c sec recovery a lot!

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Lessons learned:

Swaddle as much and as long as you can. I did it till month five and it works very well. You can get yourself a “swaddle me”. Google it.

For new moms, instead of cribs, the latest version of a baby bed, the pack n play, is amazing. You only need the basic, no add ons. You can get various different prices for these, depending on brand or make and add ons, but go for the most basic and cheapest. It pays for itself!

It’s ok for babies to cry. However babies do not cry to manipulate you. When they cry, they are voicing a need. At least for the first four months. Pls do not try to TRAIN your child and let him cry it out. Their needs are simple: feed, change, sleep, comfort, gas. Sometimes they will cry like mad for no reason (won’t respond to feeding, sleeping, changing, burping, comforting) and that is ok too. It is colic and you just need earplugs.

Babies won’t smile immediately. They just lie there initially. And demand demand demand. But it gets better.

A mommy support group is very helpful. It seriously makes a huge difference if you have a bunch of girlfriends who have babies months apart from yours and you remain in touch. No one understands a new mom better than another new mom :).

A six hour rest will do wonders for your temperament. Try to find the time every two weeks or so at the beginning. Cos you will go stark raving mad otherwise.

CUDDLE with your baby as much as you want/can!!! This time FLIES. First year is so happening!!!

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

No one told me that parenting is trial and error, you learn from your mistakes and it is perfectly fine. So all of you getting scared, please don’t be. Yes, parenting is a hard job but it is doable and very rewarding.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

YES. the more physically fit you are, the easier your delivery they say, and the faster your recovery.
walking, running, using weights, doing aerobics or the treadmill… whatever. eat healthy, eat well. take your pre-natal vitamins and folic acid.
do perineal massage to prevent tearing.
and in terms of being active, do as much as you can with and without baby on board. your doctor should be able to guide you best taking into consideration how physically fit you are.

When should you start the perineal massage?

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Horrified.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

^ lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Tinkybee- i believe perineal massage starts from week 30 on.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

^ Surely you can’t get someone to massage your perinium for you!! lol How do you do it yourself?

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

^ u don’t want to know. I don’t think it is so necessary.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

lol!!! :hehe: Yeah, I think I might skip that one…although one of hubs’ friends told him a scary story about tearing and he is constantly making perenium jokes and about having 1 combined hole for everything.

Urgh it makes me cringe! Want to :smash: him every time.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

Terrifying :bummer:

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

THINGS YOU NEED TO HEAR:

It is NOT necessary that every possible bad outcome in pregnancy will happen to you. A good number get away without tearing, single holes, nausea, debilitating aches and pains etc etc

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

It’s a muscle and stretching it to prepare for the workout it’s going to go through is a smart idea especially if it can prevent tearing. You have nothing to lose! If you google the how-to, you’ll see how to do it. Most midwives do this for you during delivery to aid delivery but if you can also do it yourself and have your muscles prepped, why wouldn’t you? Its a little too late to be squeamish about your body lol.

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

^ What about yoga moves like squatting and other excercises that loosen up your pelvis? We did those in preggie yoga classes. Those would help too other than getting my hand in there?

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

There will be times when you’ll miss your husband :frowning: even with him being present… kids drain every second of my day and i have little energy left to just sit with him and just talk  at times the most we get is “iss ki nappy change kardeiN please” or “she was sleeping in school today”

Re: Things no one told me about pregnancy, child birth and parenting

No one told me what a high needs baby was. No one told me I would be jealous of parents with easy to average babies. No one told me that I would find a level of self-less patience within me that I NEVER even knew existed.
