The Name

Should the partner’s name play a factor? Have you rejected someone because you couldn’t deal with their name?

What if the proposal’s name is the same as a sibling’s or cousin’s or niece/nephew?

I have trouble entertaining guys who have names of my cousins. They’re like my brothers, and the idea of screaming out that name in passion… shudders gives me the heeby jeebies.

Re: The Name

Does not particularly affect me. If they had the same name and had similarities in appearance and behaviour it would no doubt freak me out.

Re: The Name

Well, considering how large desi extended families are, it'd be hard to not meet someone who had the name of a relative.

Siblings, yea... that would bother me.
Cousins, not so much.

Re: The Name

Scream "O' Mere Sartaaj"!

That would work just fine.

Re: The Name

Nope doesn't bother me.

Re: The Name

It could be problematic if there was a cousin of similar name.

Re: The Name

How about " Oh Mere Majaazi Khuda!"?

Now that cannot be the name of a cousin. :)

Re: The Name

haha that would work fine.

Re: The Name

God PCG you have a lot of weird issues.

My husband & father shares same name. I had no issues at all. Balkey I was soo happy, I didn’t have to change my last name even after marriage :-)

Re: The Name

so if a guy has similar issues with heebie Jeebies what name would you recommend? Like what's female version of names suggested?

Re: The Name

I think it would have bothered me a little if my husband's name was same as my father's or brother's name. I have too many male cousins so if I go down that road, I wouldn't have really found a guy. But my husband's name is not so common so no issue there Alhamdulilah.

Re: The Name

I think a loud YESSSSSSSS will suffice instead of the name!

Re: The Name

lol.

i personally would not have issues, but an auntie i was talking to told me another lady rejected a girl's rishta because her name did not suit their family.

wtf?

Re: The Name

I know of a family where they changed the DIL's name after she married their son because the DIL's and daughter's name were the same.

I also have a friend who is married to a girl with the same name as his sister - so no biggie. It's only an issue if you make it one.

Re: The Name

I'm in a similar situation but the name is of my mother...

Re: The Name

Marry a Gora. Betcha don't have a brother called Dave.

Re: The Name

It wouldn't be an issue for me.

Re: The Name

Ok i always thot sth like this as well wen it came to naming my kid that i wudnt name him an aquaintance's name. And wen he was born i did name him the same as my old friend's name n dint even realize until very recently. N still it dsnt affect my relationship wid baby.
I think u r just overthinking it.

Re: The Name

This is the definition of a doormat DIL

:hehe:
