Respect, love, and good sex!!!
Mutual respect, affection at the very least if not love (this applies to arranged marriages i guess), trust, friendship and very importantly communiction are the things i believe a good marriage should have.
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
Ive always thought respect is the most important thing. Not just the guy respecting the girl but the wife respecting her husband too. Mutual respect for each other's families and friends. Respect goes a long way in a relationship. This is a big one.
After that, I would list things like emotional awareness as Saarim stated where I feel like I dont have to put things down on paper for him, he just knows. Im sure this wont be the case most of the time but I want to feel as if he knows me. Make sense?
One trait I admire in a man is being able to stand his ground. I tend to be the one doing/saying exactly what she wants. I know...not the best quality. I dont do it on purpose, it just happens. So, when I meet a person who can hold their own in front of me...its nice.
I think a combination of these things builds and creates the kind of love that can last a lifetime.
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage

If theres no monies...no marriage! Simple as.
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
Another thought occurred to me...
Did any of you get an arranged marriage where your spouse was totally different from what you anticipated? As in you thought you were doomed but fell in love instead?
Any of you love-marriage people fall out of love after marriage?
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
Compromise!

Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
understanding (which comes with trust and friendship (which are natural, cant be produced))
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
compromise,,,but not one sided (only from the girl side),,,both sided compromise is the most important thing bcuz not necessary dat every girl ll b bound to accept compromise only on her behalf,,men should also play a role in this matter ,e.g if their wives compromise or they want dat their wives should then they must show their compromise also in life 4 a balance life.
Re: The Most Important Thing In Marriage
I feel a need to make another comment. Please dont take this comment the wrong way.
someone with a forgetful memory is a very important quality.
Some say God's mercy is behind us forgetting things. Otherwise we would never be able to get over the loss of a loved one, heartache of a broken love, finding out that there will not another woman like Salma Hayek for at least another generation, etc.
The forgetting helps remove our mental burdens, and continue forward.
But what if a spouse never forgets your mistakes? Never forgets a fault?
That can be a living nightmare, because you may have forgotten, but she is right there to remind you.

Hmmm...maybe a little bit of Salma jealousy made you comment? ;)
Ok, dont be a doormat. Got it. But dont be driving up to the winter cabin and as I'm making a left turn into the snow-minted driveway, you throw a fit at me for having messed up your mom's color choice in leggings back in '04!
