He is actually quite smart, and anybody can prove anyone right or wrong with right logic and reasoning. Its another thing some people will never budge even when proven wrong.

I think it is hilarious how much deflecting and denial goes on whenever there is a discussion about the abysmal state of women’s overall position in Pakistan. A lot of “look at stat in West it iz worse!!1”

On the flip side, this is essentially the same argument American men use against American women who want to shed led light on women’s issues, except they want to point at how countries like Pakistan are worse in that regard (which is true, but it is still deflection).

So, in conclusion, Males is the Same™

well the research clearly says that out of 1000 sexual assalts only 300 are repored to police, which means 70% of sexual crimes go unrepored in United States and these figures are taken from US Justice department’s survey. I have not mentioned multi-billion porn industry yet which suppresses women just for the sake of few pennies. These guys were throwing “Crime is not reported in Pak” at me without knowing that crime reporting figures in US are not encouraging either… Honestly speaking, i do not intend to spend alot of time discussing the details of such things just to change their mind, because i know nothing can turn their denial into acceptance… they are in denial, good for them.
And as for Pakistan… i never said that we are angels or there is no sexual crime. Our crime figures are touching alarming heights as well.. It’s still man’s world and sexual crime against women is everywhere and mostly it remains undercover which is unfortunate.

You just equated violence against women with wearing revealing clothes. The former is criminal assault while the latter pales in comparison.

It is also disgusting that supporting a HUMAN beings rights - in this case LGBT - is considered disgusting by anyone on grounds of religion! The same folks would be th first to cry discrimination when they are discriminated against.

There is no better saying than “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. If every human being does this, the world will be a better place.

Pakistan is the country that opposes domestic violence laws because they protect women and protecting women from violence is un-Islamic.

U just make any statement as if its a fact and give judgements based on it as if its absolute reality.
Relax, Look deep into those laws and u will see if those laws actually protect women, or make it worse off, just coz the cover says such and such laws doesnt mean it is actually that…

It actually does include luxury and any sort of house help she needs to feel free to do whatever she wishes. If a man can put restrictions on her, she can also put demands on him and they would be justified. Islam is more of a feminist religion than you want it to be, I realize that. But it is what it is. If you don’t like the rules, you don’t have to be Muslim but you can’t change or bend them because you’re a man and you don’t like hearing about women’s rights. Remember that.

Despite all of men’s best efforts, there IS a feminist movement. Women are more educated than they used to be. They ARE working professional jobs. The rate of divorce is rising because they’ve realized they don’t need to be pushed around anymore. The effects of the mullah brainwashing that tells you women are beneath you, are fading.

Its best men change with the times. As you said…men will act like women and women will act like men. We have no choice left when men are being paraded around to the highest bidding women and even after marriage cannot fulfill basic rights of a woman.

Again u just cannot make up anything and call it sharia as u like,

Do what ever Allah did not make men and women equal and it clearly says in Quran, one trying to jump as hard as he/she could wont change this fact.

Oh i love all the rules in Islam, the problem is that its you who are having issues with those rules even when u do admit them.

The climbing divorce rate is actually alarming to me as well but what else was to happen logically? Pushing women to extremes in Pakistan will produce these results. Its not an opinion, its what is happening. Less women want to live with abusive in-laws, less women want to be doormats, less women want to spend their lives living for others without asking for anything in return. I know several women in my mom’s generation who spent their entire lives in abusive marriages for the sake of their children. And I know several women in my own generation who walked out of abusive marriages with their children because they had the means to support themselves. Why would they not? It is better than being beaten in front of your children. And yes, I know Pakistani men who beat their wives in front of their children in America. There comes a day when you can’t hope your kids won’t remember…they will. No woman wants to leave but if the situation calls for it, now she can. What else will happen if the trend continues to oppress women? Logically speaking, where else will long term abuse take us? There will come a day when one side will say enough is enough. That’s where we are. Men stopped being men and became jail wardens.

Everything else you’ve highlighted is great but here’s the thing…men and women in Islam will never be equal. In order to keep the scales balanced, each party has to fulfill their obligations and grant the other their rights with respect and courtesy. I see women being raised to obey their husbands but men are never taught to respect their wives. Rather to control them. This thread was started to find out why a woman is on a can of shaving cream because a woman should not be seen or heard. She should only be dealt with when necessary and confined to her home because she was meant to stay indoors. This is not going to work in today’s society…it isn’t as you can see with the rise of divorces.

The courtesy and kindness should always go both ways…not just the woman working her butt off to earn a spot in a man’s home where she can spend the rest of her days. Reality is…many women do not have to do that anymore. It is no longer a need and if it is not a need…why would anyone stick it out in a bad marriage? Its important to recognize the shift in our culture because ignoring it is not productive. They why’s need answers if there will ever be solutions.

Forbidding a woman from speaking too much, wearing certain things, going out, talking too loud, seeing her parents, working, etc. Pakistani Islam is focused 100% on forbidding women from doing things…not encouraging her to realize her full potential.

I think women r pushed more to the extreme in the west, where all aspects of gherah and femininity has been scratched out of her in a way, that she no longer wants to act like a woman and looks down upon her role as a woman. Talk of equality..

Can men and women be equal other then in islam, as you claimed in islam they cannot be equal.

Whose telling anyone to follow the Pakistani Islam :s

Well, you’re right. Because if women are protected by domestic violence laws, it is in direct violation with Pakistani Islam.

Protecting women includes hitting her when she is disobedient…for her safety of course.

Contrary to your belief, women are pushed less here. Women don’t always want to work but that option is available to them if they desire. There is no pressure to stay with abusive men or listen to jaahil maulvi’s who threaten to de-pant women on live TV. There are definitely flaws in the system but if you want to live your life as a single female in the US…no one will bat an eye. If you want to report a crime, it WILL be reported. There IS law enforcement and beating your wife to a pulp is not a domestic issue.

Women in Pakistan need marriages to protect themselves.

As for gherah, have you seen your fashion industry lately? Yeah, pretty be-ghairah I don’t think anyone living in SE Asia can lecture anyone in the world on hayah and gherah when their women can’t even go to the police to report abuse. That is truly shameful and a failed state.
