Outside of America’s biggest mosque in Dearborn, Michigan.
**A militant preacher in Florida whose Koran burning triggered deadly riots in Afghanistan has vowed to lead an anti-Islam protest outside the biggest mosque in America. **
The planned demonstration could further inflame tensions over the Koran burning, which led to two days of protests in Afghanistan that included the killings of UN staff and stoked anti-Western sentiment across the Muslim world. “Our aim is to make an awareness of the radical element of Islam,” pastor Terry Jones said at the church he leads in the college town of Gainesville, Florida. “Obviously it is terrible any time people are murdered or killed - I think that on the other hand, it shows the radical element of Islam.” Jones, a former hotel manager turned pastor who claims the Koran incites violence, said he will go ahead with a protest on April 22 in front of the US’ largest mosque, in Dearborn, Michigan. US President Barack Obama denounced the act of burning a Koran but did not mention Jones by name. “The desecration of any holy text, including the Koran, is an act of extreme intolerance and bigotry,” Mr Obama said in a statement released by the White House. “However, to attack and kill innocent people in response is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity.” Government officials in Pakistan and Afghanistan have called for US authorities to arrest Jones, however his public criticism of Islam and desecration of the Koran are allowed under US laws protecting free speech. Jones provoked an international outcry last year over his plan to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, with Mr Obama saying it would cause “profound damage” to the US. He backed down after pleas from the US government and other world officials, but then presided over a March 20 mock trial of the Koran that included a torching of the book. Internet footage later reverberated across the Muslim world and sparked the latest wave of violence.
This guy is loving his 15 minutes of fame. I really hope people wont react to this if the protest goes ahead, by getting angry and commiting murder, muslims are playing right into his hands.
best of luck to Jones, since what ever he is doing is freedom of speech which is enshrined in the constitutions of the civilized world...say anything about Islam, the Prophet (SAW) and destroy the scripture its all freedom of speech...but say a single word about holocaust and you will be thrown into prison for being anti semitic...

Not in the US. The holocaust denial laws exist only in few countries in Europe.
As for the Terry Jones, I think the best thing we can do is to ignore him. What he is trying to do is to provoke Muslims, and thats exactly what muslims should avoid.

Easier said than done... if you reveresed the role any other Religion even Bhudism would have it's hard liners queing up to throw an all out attack against such Balsphemy.
because of the genius actions now there are demonstrations in Afghanistan and other parts of the world. Due to the moron's stupidity innocent UN workers lost their lives.

That doesn't absolve the clerics who instigated the crowds either.
I never said he has no blame in anything. He knew what was coming yet he still did it anyways.
Perhaps Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan should do something and charge clerics who incite crowds to murder. Christians in Pakistan aren’t spared by their barbarism, but a few of you insist that the crowds are somehow innocent

I don't think it's that direct. Afghanistan is a different story. There are western troops there, and incidents like TJ's Quran burning simply create the perception that the foreign forces are anything but benevolant to the locals...it's somewhat of a long chain of thinking, but I'm afraid I'll have to reserve comment on how excusable such thinking is as I don't live in a country with foreign troops and local militants fighting a sometimes-is, sometimes-isn't ideological war.
Also, the Taliban had denied claim for the attacks on the UN workers, which does not bode well for the situation on the ground.

Where have I suggested anyone is innocent...?
I agree charging incitefull clerics is a great idea as well as punishing Mobs with strict laws as well but you have to practice what you preach. America is the Worlds only supposed "Superpower" or so they think anyway... So why dont they make the first move?
Why does everyone look to the supposedly "backward" "lawless" "impoverished" and "extremist" Islamic World to do things right first... Why dont they fix thier own problems before jumping down others throats... it's like booting a cripled man asking him to walk faster... You just don't do it otherwise someone will come along and cripple you someday too.
Freedom of speech my foot !! This guy should be locked up for hurting the religious sentiments of a portion of America's citizens (Muslims).
Maybe we should lock up the number of Islamic clerics right here in our country that call for the destruction of America and call for the murder of non-Muslims.
Freedom of speech also includes the right to offend (which also includes what some of you hold dear to, the freedom to call Ahmadis derogatory names and believe America is at war with Islam). Most Muslims in this country know how to react in a civil manner, but there are some, like the RevolutionMuslim nutjobs that believe violence is the key.
You have to understand that living in a Western country means that no one should be forced to bow down to you. Should Muslims be locked up in America for hurting the religious sentiments of Christians when Pakistanis refuse to condemn the massacres that their countrymen commit against the Christian minority in Pakistan?

Nobody needs Terry Jones to incite violence against Christians in Muslim countries. The Gojra massacre happened (with little outrage by Pakistani Muslims in the country judging from the lack of protests against it) in spite of Terry Jones.
Pakistanis should complaining too much about Islamophobia and do some more against these acts. Because when Christians are murdered due to an illiterate mullah making a rumor about the desecration and inciting a mob to do so, people in the West are going to be naturally hateful of Pakistanis, especially when little is done to promote the justice for minorities in your birth country.

FYI - I am an Indian Hindu living in the USA. But all your points are valid, albeit mis-directed.

Sure, why not? It was the white British colonial government which started the blasphemy law stating that anyone hurting anyone's religious sentiment would be locked up. Will this make you happy?
By the way, I have yet to meet a Pakistani who has refused to condemn any massacres against Christians.
