Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

part 1 : the story of my bridal joras is rather simple. my wedding was held in khi pakistan, and i arrived only 14 days before my wedding, so i did not have time to design my own dresses. my mother and sister who reached pak 2 weeks before i did bought my wedding dress for me. my mommy and sis went to numerous places in khi to search for the ideal jora and finally found something that would suit me at this place called MAKKAH in tariq road. it was unstiched and a brilliant shade of red. the only thing i had asked my mommy to make sure was that my bridal jora was a particular shade of red, something similar to designer bunto kazmis trademark red. and that the sleeves of my shirt reach below my elbows. for some reason ive never been comfortable showing my arms . once they had bought the dress, the same night my sister came on skype and excitedly showed it to me. i still remember how she was jumping up and down with excitement with the dress :) . i was equally happy because i trusted my sisters choice and liked what i saw via the dim lighting of my webcam. what i also loved about the jora was that there was a thick purple/ lavender coloured patti sewn on the inner edge of my duppatta. the thick patti of kaam on the edges of the dress were both gold and silver, which complimented the red colour of my dress perfectly, and i couldnt wait to see it :)

when i saw it in person, i wasnt disappointed at all. i still remember how my mother and sister kept giving each other triumphant looks when they saw my expression . i held the dress in my arms and hugged it and then hugged my mother and sis, all of us getting our kapre stuck to the intricate and rather prickly kaam of my wedding dress :) i modeled and modeled in it excessively, which was odd given that the dress was unstiched :P
which brings us to part 2 of the troubles my mother went to make my wedding dress perfect. our tailor had promised that he would stitch all of my sisters and my dresses for the wedding after baqareid (since my wedding was in late nov 2010) but when we went to the darzi to hand over our clothes, we found out that he left the city to attend his brothers wedding in some village in punjab :( we were so mad at him for leaving us in a ditch like that. however, my mother told me not to worry, and said that she would stitch my clothes for me. hence my mother ended up sewing my dress her herself, which is another reason why my dress is so special to me. every stitch in that dress is filled with motherly love <3

the story of my valima dress is just as simple. 3 days before my wedding, we went to the same place again , ( actually we went to 2 other MAKKAH stores that are located in the same vicinity in tariq road ) and checked out a number of dresses, adamant on buying something because i literally had no time to be picky. and we were done within the hour . we picked a ferozi light bluish gharara with a thick bronze , brown and gold border. i had no intention of buying that colour , since ive always been a fan of darker colours and had planned on wearing either dark green or plum purple on my valima. but the kaam on the dress was so nicely done and the finishing on it was so neat, that i ended up buying it without thinking too much. like my wedding dress, my mother stitched the valima one too. and i was completely happy with our choice of dresses. the dresses were relatively inexpensive, but for me, they were and will remain priceless.

where are they now? packed very very carefully and placed in their boxes, at my husbands home in pakistan. i wanted to bring them with me, but because of weight issues i couldnt. i hope to wear them though on my younger sisters wedding Inshallah some day :)
