It was A line lehnga in olive green and dark gold.

*What does it say about you, your family, etc?

umm I dunno excpet that everyone loved it and the color looked good on me :D

*Where is it now?
I believe in Pakistan.. I wore it quite a few times for my friends and cousins shadi since it was neither OTT nor too plain but now I am sure it doesn't fit me anymore!!!

Rukhsati:

*What are the styles and colors?
Red and gold

I bought it with my mom and sister from Mohsins Sons, Rawalpindi! My sister and I chose the fabric and the color and Ammi helped with figuring out the pattern for work that was done on it!!

*What year was it made?
2007

*What does it say about you, your family, etc?
that we always get our lehnags made from Mohsins and Sons.. the first one was bought sometime in the 80s and since then everyone got one from there!!!

*Where is it now?

Pakistan.. packed away!! I haven't wore it even once after that. I wanted to donate it to someone but it hasn't happened yet.. probably at my next visit I will do so!!

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

**What are the styles and colors?*
It was a lehnga...the skirt was in shades of rust and a light dull green with bronze shades if kaam on it,all over it....the shirt and dupatta were a shade of rust, with kaam on the borders. It was silk.
The walima one was a lehnga too and it was light mauve with light kaam on it.

**Who got and designed it?*
The wedding day one was more or less a copy of some designer thing they already had made at the shop. Some alterations were made though and those were totally my mom's idea.It was made at a shop from where our entire family has gotten their 'kaam walay kapray' for years. It was nothing fancy, just a regular zari shop.
The walima dress my inlaws got it,so not sure who chose it and where they got it from( I think it was Anarkali maybe). The color was my choice,my MIL had asked me .

**What year was it made?*
Its been a long time.Back in 2002....

**What was your reaction when you first saw it? How did you feel in it on your wedding day? How do you feel about it now?*
I liked the dress when I first saw it and tried it on.This many years later I still feel it was beautiful and obviously I felt great on my wedding day about the whole look.I feel good about it still...:D
I liked the color of the walima one and it overall came out nice too.I saw that on the walima day actually so I had no time to feel good or bad about it...hehehe

**What does it say about you, your family, etc?*
I know I did not go crazy with it.I was not obsessed with it.And that is me...It was important to me that it was nice but it was not the end of the world.I am just like that when it comes to clothes...

**Where is it now?*
The wedding day dress is packed in a suitcase at my ammi's house in Pakistan.I wanted to try to 'fit' in it for my sister's wedding. That did not happen.
The walima dress is at the inlaws' house.

I haven't worn either one of it ever since.

Pictures...hmmm...would love to share...I just dont have them rtight now...maybe some other time...

Interesting thread...:)

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

Nice thread :D

Well I was not remotely fussy about mine. Took a round of liberty market with my cousin and ordered them both at the same place, Aroosia Zari in liberty market, took me two days :D The year, 2004.

Wedding one was a red lehnga with a well, not-exactly-tail but a longer back flair, can't explain it any better. My husband had requested an overall red look and that's what I got. So yea a bit of me, hubby and my cousin were the 'designers'.lol. I chose the embroidery styles from some of their ready made samples, lessened the kaam to fit in my budget and selected fabric at the same store.

Same story with my walima jora. In-laws were kind enough to let me decide on my own so the same day I selected one for walima, same as above minus hubby's input.

My reaction.. well I loved them both. Bridal one had a lesser kaam than I expected but overall it was nice. The color I asked to be dyed for walima one was a shade different too but it looked better than what I had asked. tbh I was just glad they got made in time as I went to Pak just a month before my wedding and it was made in three weeks or so. I was quite naive back at that time and had no idea of kaam-types, fabric etc... and basically selected what looked good to my eye. I was lucky though that they had really good quality back at that time and now I see and appreciate the kaam type and materials/fabric etc. much more than I did back then. It is so intricate and beautiful that I can't believe that the old-me selected it .lol.

They areat my in-laws place in Pak in perfect condition, alhamd. nothing has gone off, I mean kaam or fabric. I wore walima one on my SIL's wedding and plan to use the bridal duppata for my bro's wedding. :D

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

*What are the styles and colors?
Barat Lengha Red with Gold & silver kaam.
Valima lilac with silver kaam.

*Who got and designed it?
Mum, sis, bro & me went to choose the dress, designer showed a HSY design and totally loved it, I just made a few changes to it.
Valima was from Susraal designed by a family designer.. Saw it on the day :)

*What year was it made?
2009

*What was your reaction when you first saw it? How did you feel in it on your wedding day? How do you feel about it now?
wow! it was made just as i wanted it to be. Loved it on the day, MashaaAllah everything was perfect. I feel good about it :)

*What does it say about you, your family, etc?
Well, everyone loved the lengha on me on the Big day :) Alhumdulilah i felt great about it!

*Where is it now?
It's at my parents.. never worn after d-day.. InshaaAllah plan to use it in near future.

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

GtG: Both your outfits sound so pretty, and different! I want to see pics! I love that your rukhsati one was made at the same place your family always goes.

chips: It sounds so unusual and beautiful! I want to see! Love your laid back approach.

MM: I love that it was a family project and that hubby got to have input too :D let's see some pics!

Miss adorable: Sounds so pretty! Are you planning to wear it again at a family wedding? I wan to see!

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

I don't really have a story- just clothes. My mom designed the outfit. she got it from liberty in Lahore. I will never forget the fact that she went to Lahore in sari garmi while I was interning to make my outfit.

It was tan beige with borders of other colors. it was really heavy.

I have always liked her taste. I wore my outfit on my sister's wedding and even lent it to my friend and she wore also. It's in boxes at my mom's house waiting to be dontated or re-used by someone else.

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

Hot pink georgette, with mutlicolored kundan/moti/stara/embroidery kaam. short blouse with full kaam on lengha, duputta, sleeves and daman of kameez.

My relatives in pak chose it. It was one of those little shops in Rang Mahal.

Dec 2006

I hated it when I saw it. It was nothing like what I had wanted or had specified and I felt that it was just another thing that everyone else had decided for me. Nothing was in my control. I wasn't allowed to plan my wedding, nothing was in my control. I had been drawing designs for many years, imagingin my wedding dress and it was a total disappointment. It was just so...plain. It looked too much like the cheap tacky crap sold in Jackson Heights... (with the full kaam and all). It was too heavy, and uncomfortable and the fitting was awful.

On the wedding day I had come to terms with it. They were my favorite colors. But the fitting was still horrible.

Now when I look at it, I can appreciate the heavy, intricate kaam....and it did look good in pictures and is beautiful up close.

The lengha is back in Pakistan, while the kameez and duputta are with me. I am still thinking of making a jora out of them, but the kaam is so heavy...

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

^ I'm so surprised you didn't like it. I think you looked beautifully bridal. I think you should make a completely plain pink silk suit, with piping in turquiose or something, and wear the dupatta with it.

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

What are the other colors, njgal? The tan sounds so unusual! I want to picture it (or you can post a photo :@: ).

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

Love grew. U can say it was an arranged marriage :halo:

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

^ Mine too. :@:

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

**What are the styles and colors?*

Not sure if the style has a particular name, but it was a short shirt (ie. not one of those long shirts that are in these days, and definitely not a cropped type shirt either), but the same details and colour continued on the front of the lengha into an angle cut, so it was supposed to look like a longer one piece shirt (hard to explain, i hope u got the idea).

the lengha itself had a slit-like design on one side to reveal another colour with kaam.

the colours were a purplish colour, torqoise and yellow/gold. i didn't want red. i wanted a lengha that wasn't traditional and something I could wear again to a cousin's wedding, or my BIL/SIL's wedding. Also it was a day/early evening wedding and I wanted something bright.

I had nice jewel beads around the edges of the dupatta and lengha - which I thought was somethign different.

**Who got and designed it?*

I didn't have time to order a lengha from Pakistan. That would have been my first choice - no doubt. But since my wedding was a month away, we bought a ready-made lengha here from Oriental Costumes. My mom, sister and two bhabhis went with me to try it - it reminded me of the show "Say Yes to the Dress". The first lengha I tried on my sister got all teary eyed. LOL

**What year was it made?*

**What was your reaction when you first saw it? How did you feel in it on your wedding day? How do you feel about it now?*
Well I loved the colours. That is what attracted me to it first. I love wearing bright colours and people always tell me that that these colours suit me. I loved it on my wedding day. It was a perfec fit. I got the tailor to add material for the sleeves and to make a separate nextension (since im hijabi).

the only thing i regretted later, was that my hijab undercap kept on slipping to the front, resulting in me having a small forehead. lol.

**What does it say about you, your family, etc?*
What does it say about me? hmmm..not sure how to answer it. . I hope it said that I was a happy bride =)

**Where is it now?*

In its original box in the store room, itching to get out to wear!

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

*What are the styles and colors?

Nikaah. This was a small home affair so I wore a red shalwar qameez given by my MIL. It had some gold kaam done on the neck and daman and dupatta. Very simple but pretty.

Shaadi: I bought this a year before my wedding for a wedding event. A long silk shirt, pretty much like you have these days, mustard with maroon paisley designs and thin gold threadwork on the gala. The dupatta and pants were maroon. This was from an expensive boutique in Chandigarh, India and it cost Rs. 17,000 16 years ago [got it a year before my wedding].

Walima: My mom got this made for me from karigars in this small town in India that is known for wedding clothiers. It was a red lehenga, deep red, with gold kaam on it and cutwork. The dupatta was so heavy though!

*Who got and designed it?
See above.

*What year was it made?
15 years ago :D, 1996

*What was your reaction when you first saw it? How did you feel in it on your wedding day? How do you feel about it now?
I loved everything. I still love all my outfits and am saving them for my daughters. They can wear them whenever.

*What does it say about you, your family, etc?
I guess we like good stuff but aren't very fussy.

*Where is it now?
At home, all wrapped up nicely.

And we'd love to see photos of it!
I promise to post tomorrow!

I'l post my story and photos of the jora soon!
