Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

Sahar, I looked very silly on my wedding. Our wedding was unusual as you know. Then imagine driving yourself up to the salon and driving back before the event :D. Ah well. No complaints. AAAAL iZ VELL.

AE your all outfits are beautiful.

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

**1. What are the styles and colors?
Nikah : **it was a sookhi mehndi color shalwar kameez. The kameez was with a round daaman and had brown and bronzish dainty dabka work on it. very simple and understated.

**Wedding: **it was an ivory and turquoise lehnga with a short shirt. Had very less kaam on it. All through out my life as a teenager I thought I wanted to be the typical bride with the nose ring, tikka and jhumer but when the actual time for my wedding came I just wanted something simple and light. I had seen a couple of my american friends get married and I loved it that their weddings were so fresh. And that is what I wanted on my day.

Walima : *Walima was a last minute idea and hubby (we had the nikah earlier so he was hubby) told me that I would have to do the dress myself. He had family in Pak but I guess he didn't want to ask them incase they sent something I wouldn't like to wear. MIL insisted that I have something traditional colorwise coz my nikah dress was so pheekha... I went with red and orange. It was a slightly long kameez with a sharara (the one which has lots of gathering at the the knees but is not split).
*

2. Who got and designed it?

**Nikah : **picked up a pre-made outfit from Tariq road in Karachi.

**Wedding : **At that time I didn't even know if I would get married, but I got the dress anyway coz I was in Pak, we were there for 2 weeks and I saw a simple lehnga in the same shop in Tariq road and gave them the order to make the dress in different colors and use more flowy material. In the back of my mind was the fear what if this rishta doesn't pan out which is why I didn't spend a lot on the dress. When we came back to the middle east, my family thought the dress was too simple and so we got the local karigars to add swarovski crystals to it and that really made the dress come alive.

**Walima : **Since walima was such a short notice affair and I didn't know proto or any other 'designer' I had to make do with what was available here. I got two banarsi sarees which had the same red and used the orange from one to make the kameez and the rest to make a simple dupatta and the sharara. It looked nice and it all came together well... got a local karigar to do some gold beadwork on the already done banarsi work so it seemed a bit more heavy.

At that time, both the dresses were the best I could do with my resources, knowledge and time. And although I do wish I had dresses that would have made ppl swoon, the make up, the jewellery and most of all the happiness and love made me look like a million bucks. Alhamdulillah

3. What year was it made?
2007

** 4. What was your reaction when you first saw it?**
I loved it and it showed on my face which is why the shopkeeper wanted me to give him extra money for a job well done... rolls eyes and the toughest part was trying to find jewellery to match it. I found one set on Tariq road but that set was very typical and when I brought it back home, the reaction I got was yuck.... We kept searching till we found something in white gold which sealed the deal for me.

How did you feel in it on your wedding day?
Loved it, just felt sooooo comfortable. The way my hubby saw me that day... it was just perfect. I still tease him that he never saw me that way ever again.

How do you feel about it now?
I love seeing it in pics and actually wore the lehnga and dupatta again on my SIL's mehndi but the candles in the mehndi thaal burnt my outfit. :(

5. What does it say about you, your family, etc?
It reflected our taste of sober, sophisticated design and color.
**
6. Where is it now?**
In a suitcase. I actually left it behind in pak to get the burnt part fixed but I got the dress back from my relative saying that it could not be fixed. I hope someday I can take it myself to either get it fixed or maybe turn it into something my daughter wouldn't mind wearing.

Re: Tell us the story of your bridal jora!

I love what i see of your walima outfit!!! very classic, the motif type embroidery wouldnt look out of place in a current bridal!
