ISLAMABAD: City police claimed on Monday to have arrested a mastermind of two suicide attacks in the capital in March and April.
Fidaullah, who is a former student of Jamia Faridia, was arrested after two suspects held for the suicide attacks named him.
He has also been accused of ambushing troops, beheading three men in Buner after accusing them of spying for security forces and providing shelter to suicide bombers.
Police said the alleged terrorist, who is a native of the Swari village in Buner, was arrested on Monday from Aabpara, but sources claimed that he was handed over to police by an intelligence agency on Sunday night.
The sources said the accused was picked up around 11am on May 27 from outside the residence of Shah Abdul Aziz, a former MNA from Kurk, on Street 31 in Sector G-6/1-3. The former MNA and a driver of a rent-a-car service were also arrested.
Fidaullah and several other seminary students were arrested for creating law and order and attacking law-enforcement personnel in 2007. Later, he was released on bail and an anti-terrorist court was scheduled to hear the case on May 28.
Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam Khan told a news conference that Khairullah and Khurram Shehzad, who were arrested in connection with suicide attacks on a special police branch on March 23 and Frontier Constabulary’s barracks on April 4, implicated Fidaullah.
After the Islamabad police started a hunt for him, he fled to Buner to take part in the fight against security forces.
He set up a terrorist network called ‘Ghazi force’ with the support of Taliban militants Niaz Rahim, Habibullah, Ajmal, the SSP said Fidaullah had been brainwashing seminary students and sending them to Waziristan for training in suicide attacks since 2007.
He had also planned to kidnap foreigners.
