definitely! I am a sunni girl and my fiance is shi'a. mA we r both very happy and will be married in abt 2 yrs iA :).

It works if u r willing to MAKE it work.

its NOT that simple...i wish the best for u though. once u've children and get a bit older in life and tend to become more religious then the friction in fiqahii masaa'il creeps in big time unless one is NOT religious at all. in that case, it doesn't matter if ur spouse is sunni, shia, christian, jew, or any other for that matter. i wud stay away myself if i were to consider marrying some1 from a different sect or religion.**

i agree with you...i have seen a couple who were very happy before getting married and after marrige but once they had kids, problems started..

They all work if you want to make them work. There are plenty of shia sunni marriages in my family and alhamdulilah everyone is happy.

On a serious note , I think changing ones faith for a person does question morality . The game of sects in religion is driven from politics , and I think as long as it is not harming the true essence of Islam , there is no harm to it . Needed that both parties should be at comfort regarding their flavor of the religion they follow .

its not changing my RELIGION. shi'as are STILL muslims in case u forgot...

also, i am CHOOSING to covert. there is no force or anything involved. U r asking y he didnt choose to convert sunni? Well, because his family is more following than mine is. My family isnt very religious. He said if I want to stay sunni I can... but I am making this choice on my own.

I have to say that comment of urs abt how long our love would last was kinda rude and unnecessary.. There are many narrow minded ppl out there who have said the same kinda **** from day 1.. but that didnt stop us from getting together and this wont either.. thx for ur input though......

of course it can work out; and it used to be commonplace in our society as well.. aajkal kuch log ziada hi kattar ho gaye hain from both sides and there's a lot of ignorance about it as well and suni sunaayi baatein.

true there are many differences in tradition (namaz kaisay parhni hay etc), so that issue needs to be discussed before you have kids.

i know this would sound silly but i really dont know so can someone explain whats the different between sunni and shiah.

i am sunni and i am always told that shiah are different then us..they are not real muslims..no offense to anyone..for me every one is equal but just want to know whats the difference

it is very sensitive subject, I do not think it is right forum to discuss the difference between sects.

In any case why not find some books are discuss with some knowledgeable people you know?

there is also a growing trend in Toronto area amoung Sunni guys to date Qadiyani girls to just date them for fun and then ditch them.Some actually take pride in it and brag about it!

WOW Sunni converting to Shia, sounds very scandalous. I don't think you can truly convert to Shia. You are a shia or you are not. Kher. Best of luck. Just like being a Jew. You are either a jew or you are not. You cannot convert to being a Jew. There are certain things involved.

In my family, we never marry Shias. If I tell my mom hypothetically speaking that I want to marry a Shia, I am dead.
