Perhaps you are familiar on what happened at Libery Chowk ........ let me give me some info and the you can perhaps comment once you have proper information.
The Sri Lankan team was in the "big" bus ....... while as Chris Broad along with the othe officals / umpires were in a "smaller" bus following the team "big" bus. The Sri Lankan team bus made it to Gadaffi Stadium ... while as the "smaller" bus driver was killed and so these guys were stuck in the middle of the gun fight. It was only when the gun battle stopped that these guys were rescused. hence the "sitting duck" comment...... hope this clears the situation ....
So, if the bus was a sitting duck, why did not our 12 bearded commandos attack and kill all inside? What prevented them from doing so, since they seemed to be in no hurry?
The priority of a security detail is to protect the VIP which includes evacuation. Their job is NOT to fight a war or kill and arrest the attackers, that would be stupid. US Secret Service guy as you know are trained to cover the president's body with their own, not pounce on the attacker.
The job to engage the attacker, falls on the counter assault team, which seems to have either not existed or completely failed in this case. Or maybe those were the 6 who were killed.

Saleem Shahzad of Asia Times has this report that the attack was done by "Punjabi Taliban" with the goal of abducting the Srilankan team and then demanding their comrades's releases. That is why the rockets and bullets were targetted at the drivers and the security detail. The bus was fired on, when the driver decided to drive away. The plan was to demand release of Lashkar militants and other Punjabi Taliban prisoners held in Swat. As per swat deal, the local Taliban are to be released soon but the Punjabi Taliban are left in cold. The attackers were prepared for a long standoff (like Mumbai) and after the release, they were supposed to go to the emirates of Waziristan.
Once the bus was able to get away, the attackers had to abondon their plans. Another report stated that the route for the bus convoy was changed at the last minute. The security detail was told of a threat to the original route by a phone call to trick them to take the alternate route.
These are not official reports yet but makes sense.

well i passed through the scene of crime at about 0830 am; and the traffic was there as usual...it was only after 5 minutes this all happened...i am sure no one would like to get caught in this kind of crossfire...

Well, there are CCTV cameras on such streets. Its another thing if they are not monitored real time! I have seen these cameras.
its a commercial area and opens around 11am and closes late at night. I would not expect many people there around 9am. Abhi tau lahoriyon ka nashtay ka time bhi nai howa!

This “Secret Report” is prepared after the attack, just backdated. It was released in order to fool ordinary pakistanis and divert their attention. Any kid would know that.
If pakistanis are serious then I would like to see some resignations and suspensions. I thought pakistanis are more professional than what they are coming out now. Try to come up with something else.

But I see bad times ahead, especially for Punjab as local Taliban will try to step up their movement as they see their cousins gaining victory in Swat. Don't be shocked if in few years or even months, south Punjab also has a "peace deal"/surrender like Swat.

I can tell by their dress at least they are pukka Pakistanis and also I can you use my brain to compare their actions to the ones they have taken in NWFP/FATA. Also, I know you need a strong ideology to do this type of an attack and this ideology is only taught in jihadi madrassahs and camps of Pakistan.
Kidnapping for ransom, which these thugs were going for, is a tried and tested Taliban policy in NWFP/FATA, so no surprise they would also try this in Punjab.
