my first car was a 19 yr old civic stick shift with over 200,000 miles on it. was giving me 35 mpg, zero issues, drove it for 3 yrs - during which i changed oil like twice. i couldn't take it to the car wash coz all the mexican guys would start asking for my number so they could buy it from me. tons of memories. had to give it away one tearful day coz it wouldn't pass the smog test and the dmv extensions got to be too much of a hassle. -__-
but sentiments aside, the most popular models of honda and toyota - civic, accord, corolla, camry - are pretty well designed for economy cars. 90% of american cars are so badly designed - steering wheel blocking instrument panel, A pillar blocking view of the road. B pillar so wide, your blind spots are as big as soccer fields. rear window doesnt align with rearview mirror. rear spoiler blocks entire rear view. i don't want the redneck idea of luxury (cooling a soda in the glove compartment a/c tubing) if it means sitting in a death trap.
but i think even if it came to luxury cars, acura and lexus would still be more cost effective than the german cars. as far as i am concerned, the rest of the car universe is just dark matter.
It's got to do with Pakistan being a cash economy, hence the need to save up to own stuff.
more than that.. you can own two cars for the money you pay to lease one. amreekis think in terms of monthly payments. but are too short sighted to count the total number of payments as a function of time used. maybe i am biased but the more i learn about the workings of it, the bulk of the american "service" industry and banking sector seem to be just creative ways of making fools part with their hard earned money.

Absolutely! The banking/interest system only makes the bosses bigger bosses.

What if you lose your job, how are you going to pay for your big fancy car then.
Losing one's job isn't as unheard of as it used to be before the recession.
you have no idea, ninja.. in my dad's village, "trekker" has become a native word. it was the only vehicle that could take people to the hills for several decades. now there are all kinds of vehicles, but the word for them is still "hire a trekker". i've puked in a dozen different trekkers as a kid, usually after eating big lunches at weddings.

I'm sorry not sure what that has to do with what I said?

I was merely stating how excessive borrowing can get you in trouble if you lose your job.
And you did not mean you CDG, it meant an average buyer who leases thinking just about the monthly payments, not thinking about loss of income as a possibility.

It took yeras for companies like Mahindra,Force motors and tata to copy the design of trekker and develop vehicle like that...trekker was the original ..........:)

Oh ok, you were still talking about the leasing bit. I got confused.
but here's the deal. one can find car loans at terms cheaper than lease terms. if in between you lose your job, your leased car gets taken away. you get nothing for all your payments until then. but if you were on a car loan, you can always sell the car and have a minimal loss, or maybe even make a "profit" if your car is one with a good resale value (like niksik's fav tyoota krolla and honda civic).
