I think with most things people don't like changes even though they would enjoy the change. So, I guess desi's are used to the toyatos and hondas and don't step outside the box.

Yes, it's the fear of change and also the word of mouth thing. Most desis buys cars and gadgets upon recommendations from other desis. They'd be the odd ones out if they drove an Audi at a nihari party.
And desis are a lot more financially responsible than their peers. Yeah your no-desi neighbor drives a Porsche, but you don't know is that he is neck deep in debt where as Mr gupta has dough in his savings acciunt despite his crappy honda.

Oh that reminds me. I've noticed desi's like to own stuff but lotsa my neighbours have a new car every little while because they just lease it and keep changing cars. I like the idea of having my own things too.

It's got to do with Pakistan being a cash economy, hence the need to save up to own stuff.
