Controlled environment, can be controlled, but an uncontrolled and un-regulated environment such as prostitution can lead to the spread of diseases, trafficking of girls, under age sex, abuse, violence and crime.
This is an industry that has existed for thousands of years and will continue to exist.
Even in Saudi Arabia and Makkah, there are prostitutes and pimps.

AIDS can be controlled if these hoez are monitored and hoez with AIDS can be take off the street and given proper medical care.
Since Prostitution is regulated, Customers with AIDS will be deterred, etc…
And thus, AIDS is controlled.
Just look at Thailand. They were rapidly increasing AIDS but it got controlled.

Fact is legalisation will affect the spread of AIDS...it will indeed decrease it but by doing that isnt there a possiblity that you will encourage extended prostitution...
Say for instance someone wants to visit a brothel...one of the deterrants is the fact that a girl may be carrying an STD...thats why no-one tends to pick up streetgirls for instance...
By making sure every girl has a checkup and making sure every girl is an STD free prostitute makes prostitution safer and in theory should increase prostitution...
Legalising makes it safer for the consumer so legalisation is better for the whoremonger...

So why is "controlling" the prostitution the only visible plan to people? Isn't it common sense that the best way to end the problem is to ACTUALLY end it? Why not actually implement the laws that ban prostitution? That would take care of much of the infedility, broken marriages and homes, ridicule of women, trafficking etc.
As long as there is a prostitution market, you're going to have trafficking. And maybe in Las Vegas, women will willingly undress for a good 200/20 minute session, but in places like Pakistan women undress because someone kidnapped them as a child, sold them into the profession, and they really don't know any other life.

You give hookers too much credit...there is a sex trade becuase women know they can make more money having sex than they can working a normal 9-5...
Especially if you are in a tourist place in the 3rd world...My friend who went Pakistan goes its 40pounds for an hr...and this was no kidnapped chick...just a chick that needed cash...now 40 pounds for an hr is good in any country so imagine it there...sex makes money thats why women do it...

You dont understand the economics of prostitution.
The reason that hookers can charge $200 for 20 minutes is because prostitution is illegal and thus anything which is illegal becomes very expensive.
The reason so many young girls do prostitution is because of the money they can make. Up to 1,000 dollars a night.
Now, if it is legalized, the amount of money a hooker can make goes down significantly. Meaning, anyone trying to become a hooker to earn money will look at other options because the money that a girl can make has decreased significantly.
This applies to Diamonds and Drugs. The reason Diamonds are so expensive is not because they are hard to find, its because due to government regulations and the quota of how many diamonds can be brought into the country, etc, makes them so expensive. If the government removes all the regulations, then the price of Diamonds collapses.
Same thing with Drugs. Drugs are very cheap to produce and refine but because they are illegal makes their street value go up.

IMO,prostitution is wrong and i find it digusting that people take advantage of poor ppl, by forcing them intoit. Alotta prostitutes are victims of circumstance... legalizing itonly legalizes and gives us a right to take advantage of them...
How many young girls do u kowwho grow up listing prostituition as one of their potential careers? Poverty, drug addictions, neglect, family abuse... these factors all come into play when awoman enters this "profession".
That being said, Istill cant pick sides on the issue, for the simple reason tht i dont know how she feels...im not in that woman's position...if we were to ask a random prostiute to give itup, i highly doubt she would unless we had some means of financial assistance... a mother could/would do anything to protect her child, even if it means to pr rostitute to get money...she has to do it, even ifshe's degrding herrself...
The best way is to stop it, and to stop prostitution is not to legalize it...instead we should reach out to the 'em and help them find better lives...jobs, because noone really chooses to become one.

Actually isnt the idea that by legalising drugs more people will enter the business and therefore there is more supply and therefore the price goes down...
If one district only has one dealer the prices are going to be high...if there are ten then the prices will be lower...legalisation seems to benefit the consumer in terms of they have access to cheap drugs...who it does screw over are the drug barrons who now have people legally stepping onto their turf...
It doesnt actually discourage drug use in any way...it does infact legitimise it...what it does do though is regulate what is on the market...and maybe hold dealers liable for providing bad product per say and stuff like that...

In prostitutions case legalisation i suppose will make sure that a hooker does get her cut...employment law or what not would entail that say if its $60/hr she gets $20 of it whilst with a street pimp she'd be lucky to get any of it as Picocio stated...but then it begs the question do you actually want to make a society where girls look at the career and think ill do that...cos at the moment it still earns more money than a job especially if you are freelance without a pimp but it isnt safe by any means...for the prostitute or the consumer...things like violence and imprisonment are a good enough deterrant for some to not enter the field...
Thailand which you mentioned as an example where its worked is a place where 15% of its GDP comes from tourists coming to **** their women...now im sure im not alone in thinking thats a bad thing...

Guys maybe desperate for Sex but by legalizing it, the price of prostitution goes down and thus the monetary incentive that many girls find in prostitution is no longer there and thus go into other avenues.
