Wait, I don't understand. Why don't your principles apply to a western woman who doesn't want to wear the abaya in Saudia Arabia and shouldn't be punished with jail or beheadings if she doesn't?
Why can't a woman in Pakistan then wear shorts or a skirt?
You know, they used to. They used to wear far more in Afghanistan even. Kabul was the place to be once upon a time.
So it's not like these countries haven't seen anything short of an abaya. There used to be a fashion of Shalwaar Kameez with the kameez cuts going above the hips.
If someone wants to wear that now or deep neck kameez or backless kameez w/dori's etc, or choli's/sari's that show a midriff in Pakistan, they can surely do that right? And you girls wouldn't go running around opening threads saying Hai Hai every time Meera wears something revealing?
Sadly this is now being captured in the Urban Dictionary translation of the word “Muslim”. Clearly this behavior isn’t just being recorgnized by some muslims. It’s very apparent to non-muslims. You have to be fair. If non-muslims can’t enter Makkah, then it follows there can be places where muslims can be banned from. If non-muslims can’t wear what they want in Muslim countries, then same goes for muslim women.
sure ... And I am presuming you and everyone else in this thread, who have suddenly become champions of respecting one,s right to wear whatever he or she likes , absolutely support western women right to wear small shorts in hot summer in Saudi arabi and other UAE states? Never ever heard Muslims making that point. They only want their rights to be preserved in west but would never say a word on bigotry practiced in the Muslim world
Let American claim to be a dictator, change its values, changes it constitution then you can come back with this argument until then it will fall on its face flat

No PD i'm sure you are wrong here. There are threads and threads with a ton of posts with how we cry over senseless and tyrant rules in middle east. Wutever happens there is beyond ridicilous and time after time everyone condems it.
But you have to understand here the point is, US isnt a autocratic form of dynasty govt. Its called the "free" country for a reason. Still right now as we speak, if you forget social media or mainstream media and go outside, people do and wear wutever they want. Thats exactly what makes it a amazing place to live in.
Now the new cries of forcing people wut to wear and wut not to wear is termed as "unamerican" just because thats not what america is about. America's pride is the live a life without any forceful bindings to give up their own customs and culture.
Why are people comparing freedom to dress in USA with Saudi Arabia? Really What about places like Turkey where Muslims and non Muslim wear whatever they like? Yes, Turkey is secular Muslim majority state where women do wear skirts, shorts, hijab, abaya, bikini, jeans and everything.
If you really want to compare to USA with any other Muslim country, then at least act a little intelligent and compare it with Muslim country (ies) that claim to be bit more secular and free than autocratic monarchies.
So all those desi American Muslims acting like Trump supporters and proposing ban on people’s clothes - if you live in America, I wonder what you have to say about Africans who still wear their ultra colourful long robes with turbans? What about Indian elderly women who still wear saris with cardigans or Sikh women who wear shalwar kameez? Or what about orthodox Jewish with their all black attire and big fur hat? How “American” are all these dress codes? Should these people be deported and banned for not wearing “American clothes” or is only the Muslims that deserve to be discriminated against?
Btw, Saudi doesn't allow pilgrims to hide their face in Makkah or Madina (or maybe it's restricted to the mosques not sure). It's for security so they can make sure no one is clowning around as they watch you on cameras.
I'm not discussing cultural dress. I'm discussing clothing that hides the face. Different issues.
Thanks for clearing that up. In that case, I would agree and say that I also find face covering borderline repulsive in Western countries where you just end up attracting more attention towards yourself and make other people feel unconformable. But I'd still highly discourage in personal capacity than jump on the ban bandwagon.
Well Well well, look what we have. Muslims fighting about themselves over a piece of cloth that doesn't affect them in their otherwise mundane lives. Who needs non Muslims enemies when you have Muslim friends like these?

Ummmm since when? There are plenty of niqabis in Haram and Masjid Nabi.
I think it might be verse 33:59, explaining how to draw your garments over yourselves so that you "may be recognized".
No one is going to recognize a woman who covers her face.
God wants you to be recognizable. Per Quran.
Which is why the Hadith on niqab that document Aisha (R) used to draw her veil over her face doesn't make sense to me. There is also the Hadith where a woman asks Muhammad (SAW) what should be covered and the face was excluded. So the niqab may have historically been something Muhammad SAW's wives used to do and the pagan women used to do to avoid kidnapping in the desert. His wife would have been a target so better that people not recognize her. I don't know I have no other explanation why else she would not follow a Quranic verse.
