Shopaholic

Re: Shopaholic

LOL @ everyone' trying to guess!
Paheli's mentioned her fiance is a Dr, so I'm assuming the coworker is a doc too.

Re: Shopaholic

Sup catsy!..i think ya should just make a list of things ya need and stick to them. Every woman loves shopping so i am not surprised anyway.

Re: Shopaholic

LOL....if she's going to consider marrying anyone from this site....I'm first in line! ;)

As for everyone else trying to guess her profession.....she's a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Re: Shopaholic

You are marrying a doctor.. so just marry him.. you'll have that 450k.. leave that woman for other's here :D

Re: Shopaholic

^ But I’m a typical woman who’s never satisfied and who can never have enough! :halo: And for the record my guy’s not a surgeon. (although I try my best to convince him to switch…lol).

All jokes aside though…its not all that it seems. Yes she has $$ but her life also has many issues that the rest of us wouldn’t want to deal with (no matter how badly we may want her closet!). Grass is not always greener on the other side.

Re: Shopaholic

I know, life can be tough. I watch Grey's anatomy. :(

Re: Shopaholic

Well Catskin, if you're addicted to online shopping, here's what I do...
Just add stuff to your cart and then 'comparison shop'.. go over to other online shopping sites. There's always one out there with a better deal. In the end you've seen so many that you're bored/tired and don't purchase anything at all.
Window shopping online is as much if not more fun than going around to the stores.
If putting in the order is what gives you the rush, there are times when I've done that and then called up and cancelled.

Sometimes all the fashion blogs and sites can help. I browse through so many, and there's so much choice, you can't make up your mind what you want.. so I end up postponing the purchase..that works too..:)

Finally, if I really feel the urge to shop, I turn away from the fashion blogs and focus on home decor. It's fun imagining what I will be putting into my future home and since I won't be buying any of it right now it's easy on my wallet.

Re: Shopaholic

I think I have an obsession with online shopping. I don’t buy clothes but I go through phases where I buy makeup, purses, shoes, books and other things. I’ve been stuck in the makeup phase for the last year and a half. BUT no regrets whatsoever and I have a strict budget which I don’t cross. I also keep a spreadsheet on Google docs for my makeup/beauty stuff where I catalogue everything I have as well the amount spent. I then made a separate page for the TOTAL I spend since I started building my “collection” and turns out I spent more than $4K on makeup/beauty stuff alone since last year. :smack:

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that number so now I’m on a very strict monthly budget, ahem. That being said, I love online shopping and 90% of the stuff I got was online. I think it’s that getting-a-parcel-in-the-mail thing I love so much. The UPS/USPS people know me by name. >.<

Re: Shopaholic

Oh, and another little trick is to organize your wardrobe and plan 'outfits' from what you already have. This will get you more focused on wearing your planned outfits rather than shop for even more.
You could even use a site to post these outfits. It would help you realize how much you already have or can achieve in terms of looks.

Finally, $300 per month doesn't sound like tooo much if you haven't done much shopping recently. I understand clothing is much more expensive in the UK? Is that a factor?

Re: Shopaholic

And if there's something you feel the urge to collect, say glitter eyeliner in every color, that you know you will tire of, go for a reasonably priced option.
Say, NYX glitter liners rather than urban decay. That way when you're over that phase, you have about $60-$80 worth of makeup you're not going to ever use again vs $200-250 worth.
I did this with NYX jumbo pencils vs MAC shade sticks.

Re: Shopaholic

woman.. where do you get your money from? Where do you work?

Re: Shopaholic

lol....that's the worst part...the postman has become familiar and "frank" with me. Once I wasn't home to open the front door for him and when he saw me walking outside (I was coming from the park), he was like, "Where were you?". I was like WTH Mr?

Re: Shopaholic

I wish this would work for me but it doesn’t. In my defense, I do a lot research and HATE clutter so I don’t get a lot but everything I get is usually the higher-end version. All the things I bought before I went “snob” are slowly being purged from my collection. I keep a very well-edited small-ish stash but it adds up big time when you buy the more pricer versions of things. Also, I have a thing for packaging. I’ve reached my saturation point with brands like MAC, NARS, Urban Decay and moved on to luxe brands now. Those other brands don’t do it for me any more, urgh. :bummer:

Uh, I don’t work (NOT on purpose; we live in a tiny town and there is no chance I could ever work) so um, my parents? flees

LOL! okay, they aren’t that frank with me but they chuckle every time they have to drop off a parcel and know right away who it’s for. Or when I’m eagerly waiting for a package and they come running up with it? >.<

Re: Shopaholic

that sounds like a lot to me to spend on something that doesn't really give any benefit beyond "looking pretty." but it is your money and as long as you and your family are fine with it, this shouldn't be anyone else's problem.

Re: Shopaholic

But it’s not a normal and mature thing to do, is it? :vivo:

Re: Shopaholic

^True, makeup is not a necessity. It's a hobby and a luxury as well. I'm sure once I have a family/kids my priorities will change.

Re: Shopaholic

How do you control yourself?

Keep the tags on and reciepts handy. Wait a week. If you really need it - keep it.

Re: Shopaholic

:hinna:

Story of my life. I can never get enough of anything, especially when its just one click away! I notice I tend to overbuy when browsing the web cuz everything looks so darn nice; if I go to the mall I rarely spend half of what I do when im shopping online.

Every week I tell myself I’m gonna stick to my budget and every week I end up spending between 300-500… when my weekly budget for play is only $150.

Sad thing is, when it comes time to get dressed in the mornings, I stare at my closet and cant seem to find anything!! WTH

The challenge, especially for ladies and more so for desi ladies is that a lot of the shopping tends to be outfits rather than coordinating pieces, thus the full closet and nothing to wear dilemma.

Guys do a better job of mix and match. As a college student with little money to spend on clothes, I stuck with solids in a few main colors for shirts, trousers,, jumpers and sport coats. Navy, french blue, grey, tan, black, white, with a few brighter items in there and leaving patterns to accessories like scarves, and outerwear - gloves hats and coats etc. then black oxfords and boots, brown loafers, . With the number of combinations I would not have to repeat the same look for weeks.

Think in terms if versatile pieces that can be worn many ways and paired with several other items.

Catskin, the shopping is not the problem and you can't solve it on its own, it's just a symptom, solve the root
cause.

The only time in my life I was a shopaholic and a workaholic was when I was dealing...rather not dealing with stuff I needed to sort out and had been in grief

Re: Shopaholic

^ You were that particular about your clothing in your college days? WOW.
I agree with your analysis though. There is always a root cause for any extreme behavior.
When people feel they don’t have control over their lives, they find activities which give them that sense of control. It can be buying anything with just swipe of a credit card or overeating, overworking etc.
