I think I’ve become one. I didn’t even realize I’ve spent more than a £1000 on clothes and shoes in last 3 months. I feel horrible. I have always this feeling that something is missing from my wardrobe and I need to buy more things and everything I find pretty.
Right now, I’m still thinking about 2 dresses I’d like to buy next week.
I know quite a few people like this, it's more common than I realised. One lady I know said she couldn't stop herself from buying things - she ended up getting a job to keep herself pre-occupied. So I spose that's one thing you could do, try and focus your attentions elsewhere with a hobby or something?
Also stop looking at fashion/make-up sites or magazines which try to convince you that you need to buy the latest thing.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time on browsing such websites.
Here is thought Catskin.
Instead of all those impulse buys and trying to keep up with the joneses (and their fashions) think about the people less fortunate then you?
Maybe give some money to a charity of your choice. :)
^ The Messiah hath spoken. Easier said than done. If we was all such Mother Teresas, this mucked up world won't be as...well... mucked up.
Lol true...but at least she can try! Spending £1000 on clothes is quite a lot and may be rooted in other psychological issues. Afterall who needs THAT many handbags! :)
Catskin, if you have Ondemand check out the last episode of Superscrimpers on channel 4! :). I think you may be able to relate!
Catskin you know what helps too? Just take out EVERYTHING you own and have a look at it all together. It makes you realise just how much you really need and how much you have already. I agree that sometimes buying new things, can be a psychological thing, where you want shiny new things because they are new and pretty, not because you really need them.
Also chucking out old things/selling em on eBay/giving them away makes for really good therapy too.
I think it's too much unless you're wealthy enough that £1000 doesn't mean anything to you, or you had a reason like it was wedding season, in which case, I doubt you would be posting.
Occupying your mind definitely helps. Over the last 3 months, I think I've only bought one new thing and it's all because I was too busy to go shopping or waste time browsing online.
And always question yourself "do I need this?". I know that if I wasn't working, I would buy less because I wouldn't need new stuff so often.
Really depends on how much you are earning. If this (333 pounds a month) is less than 10-20% of your salary why worry? If not then make a budget and cut down
There is simply not enough information to be absolutely certain. If you have not bought or replaced stuff for sometime then it is perfectly fine. Many reqsons...e.g. How clothes fit can change if someone has lost weight, Styles change, clothes get worn out, new things are needed etc etc. So you have to look at it from that perspective.
If you really need them and can afford them 1K over 3 months is not a big deal.
You know, in a water reservoir/dam, there always is a pressure-releasing valve/channel that releases water pressure on regular basis else dam breaks down (which has just happened in your case).
Begum's theory is that dont shut the shopping completely (to save money). Spending a little here and there keep that BIG bill out of question and it works.
I had a quick look at my wardrobe and there is a lot of stuff which is still tagged. I definitely need to sort it out today.
I always hated shopping and buying things in stocks, even now if I look in F&B with people tons of make up it’d make me sick but I’m not any different to them now. I don’t believe in buying things just because you can afford them, especially when you’re a responsible adult.
I’ve been buying most things online and that has made it worse. I’ve been buying things in a size smaller so I can gain enough motivation to fit in those clothes so half of the stuff I can’t even fit into. That’s so stupid of me.
Use a creditcard with a limit on it!!! Hide the rest or better yet see if u can put them on hold. God the thought of a creditcard on freeze just gavey heart the heebie jeebies. shudders
