Would you rather take an unfit (and fat, as others who have seen him have pointed out) Shoaib Akhtar rather than give any other bowler a chance? And how do you know what transpired in the meeting between Inzimam and the selectors?

Mota Shoaib Akhter is his own biggest enemy, how can a professional of his stature not know this simple fact? He either has given up, or is suffering from severe depression. Whatever the reason, a mota shoaib needs to loose at least 10kgs and regain his self-confidence and prove his detractors wrong....he has been a great Pakistani asset, needs change of fuel or somethin...definately not fit to play international level cricket...

I dont think PCB left shoaib out on purpose, they have been doing everything possible to get him fit from the time of his injury. If he is overweight then I agree with their decision, the last thing we want is for him to break down after a few overs. Sami might be available by may 26th so his inclusion will boost the bowling attack. I still feel that our bowling is better than south africa and look how much they have accomplished against the west indies without the services of Pollock.

looks like the guppies here are more keen on shoaib playing than shoaib himself 
he should have paid attention to his fitness if he wanted to make a comeback, instead, his fitness got worse, guess he isn’t interested
Look at Moin Khan, he got a comeback chance because he worked for it, he didn’t sit back and become a baloon hoping he would get a recall because of his performances some odd years ago

So did anyone in the world hoped this inexperienced team would beat India in India? Leveling the series that too from 0-1 down is no less than a win. I think thats what Pak and even India thinks (all the mourning in India is a proof of it, they never thought Pak could bounce back like this). Specially when Shoaib’s fans called Sami and Rana and co, sheep! So those sheep not only levelled the series but won ODI in a magnificiant way.

well, we can’t get him out. We are not professionals. But rest assured, shabbir, rana, arshad, and dani will try their best to get him out. And you can also rest assured that they won’t fake injury after bowling 3.2 overs. They will also not hit the west indies clubs the day before a test. That we can guarantee. But odds are we will get the job done. According to some in this forum who shall remain nameless, our bowlers in india didn’t have a shot against the likes of the greatest like dravid, tendulkar, sehwag, and ganguly. But they held their own. So I have no reason to suspect that we can’t get lara out.

Why PCB is so fond of making fun of themselves PCB earlier last week mentioned that they will conduct fitness test for shoaib and gul on sunday may 1st so that they could annouce thefinal team on may 2nd. Now it seems like they they will not select both of them without conducting the fitness test. There is a news regarding that in today’s (May 2nd) Jang paper where shoiab has told that PCB didn’t bother to take a fitness test so he could prove his fitness. Why PCB didn’t take the test on sunday ? Are they afraid that shoiab will prove his fitness. Because thats is the message they will give to the people by not giving him a chance.

This simple fact of the matter is that while Sami bowled well in the Test series we were a Pacer short. Rana didnt even bowl for most of the tests and Razzaqs bowling is better suited for ODI’s. Regardless of the teams performance, that basically means we had an empty spot for another pacer. Shaoib was/is the best man for the job. His stats speak for themselves. Had he been playing we may have been able to win that test series. I am not saying should, I said may. That in itself justifies his selection for the test team…

Let me redefine my stance on "Pakistan Cricket Team" through the passage of time,
Pakistan cricket has always been a class act on its own, and its the Indians who have learned a great deal of annovative cricket from the Pakis such as attacking cricket and the importance of at least 3 Q pacers in the side..
My reservations on Pak team's ability were in doubt indeed and Yes! The results came out different to all our pleasant surprise.
This does not mean that beating India is an achievment like "Nadeeday bachaay" who have never seen a 'candy' before.
Sachin or no sachin India is NOT in my 'Top 3' best teams in the cricketing world.
I'll open a separate thread to elaborate on this point and hopfully make sense of differentiating between WI tour and the past Indian tour.

If India is not among the top 3 Test teams then WI surely won’t be among the top 10! Despite all your reservations, you have to admit that beating India in India had to have been some sort of an achievement for this young, inexperienced team. The 1999 team was led by Wasim Akram and had plenty of top players, plus India wasn’t that good at that time. The 1987 team was led by Imran Khan and had young Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, Salim Malik, Ijaz Ahmed. The 1978 team was the most star-studded ever, and still lost.
Nobody thought this young team had a chance… the only world-caliber players in it were captain Inzi and Youhana. That they came back fighting to draw the Tests and win the ODIs is a testament to the fighting spirint and unity in this young team. Yes, they might lose, but at least we know they won’t easily give up. And this was the same Indian team that beat us in our home last year WITH Shoaib Akhtar in the side.
Even the mighty Australians only got their first ever Test series win in India only a few months ago.
