Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

I've seen a few clips of the show and I don't think it's racism so much as bullying. And you are totally wrong that this proves white people don't think much of Indians. On the contrary 'The Indian' :D has been getting a lot of sympathy from the whites and white media, who are labelling the bullies as jealous girls insecure of one as beautiful, classy, intelligent, aristocratic..etc as Shilpa. She's tipped to win now. And if she does it will be with the help of white votes, not just Asian. In the end she'll probably end up making asian/white relations better, and that includes Pakistanis too my brother. :)

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

What is amazing is that 4 women fighting can make headlines? It’s funny! lol
This sort of sums up the irony.

Jade Goody - Jade Goody probably thought that the worst Big Brother could throw at her was some slaphead fellatio and a few people screaming “Burn the pig!” at her for a while. But during this series of Celebrity Big Brother, things have escalated completely beyond reason. Thanks to a raw chicken and an Oxo cube, Jade Goody has now been exposed as the biggest racist since Adolf Hitler and as such everyone in India has been handed their very own Jade Goody Celebrity Big Brother wicker effigy to burn as they see fit. Is Jade Goody a racist? God knows - as last night’s Celebrity Big Brother fight hit fever pitch Jade started to make the sound of a four-foot mosquito being taunted by a toddler behind a double-glazed patio door, and was thus rendered incomprehensible. There’s speculation now that, after Big Brother made her famous, Celebrity Big Brother will cast her out into obscurity again. She’ll be on the cover of Heat for sure, but only with the headline Oh **** It’s That’s Racist Pikey From Celebrity Big Brother - No Not Maxwell From 2005, The Other One. Current Celebrity Big Brother betting odds - 16/1
Shilpa Shetty - Shilpa Shetty, on the other hand, has got it bloody well made. Reports say she got paid more than anyone else to appear on Celebrity Big Brother, and now she’s emerging as the favourite to win Celebrity Big Brother. And, really, what’s 24 days of unrelenting sobbing misery compared to the brief empty thrill of winning a low-rent celebrity-based reality TV show? The entire planet seems to have got behind Shilpa Shetty thanks to the racist-seeming onslaught she’s faced from Jade, Jo and Danielle - but Shilpa’s ice cool poise looks close to shattering, and a full-scale retaliation will surely damage her chances. After all, a racist attacking a racist by being racist just creates another racist, and Shilpa’s already bubbling under; slagging off Jade for being on Big Brother and muttering about the state of the UK. Still though, at the moment Shilpa Shetty is the favourite to win Celebrity Big Brother, and we hope the obligatory Celebrity Big Brother winner’s prize of hosting one episode of The Friday Night Project will make up for all the hassle. Current Celebrity Big Brother betting odds - 5/4

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Interesting comments by Mahesh Butt. He certainly has a point.

The Telegraph also mocked Delhi’s reaction to the incident.

“If Britain’s Channel 4 is scouting for publicists, it need look no further than Delhi’s corridors of power”, it said.

Was it wise for Ms Shetty to have agreed to take part in the show? Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in Mumbai’s DNA newspaper clearly thinks not.

Why do we go on bended knees and lick their boots?” he asks.

I believe no one can insult you without your permission. Shilpa Shetty has paid the price for trying to desperately seek the approval of the West.”

It is pathetic how we can go on bended knees and lick the boots of Westerners in an effort to be part of their world.”

In its editorial, the newspaper said “Shetty has to find the attitude and the chutzpah to face the comments - racially pejorative or just downright *****y - from her ‘friends’ in the house [because] Big Brother is all about running the other contestants down in order to get on top.”
“And we, as viewers back home, need to understand that since she asked for it by signing on, she needs to deal with it.”

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

I totally Agree

She is getting 400,000 pounds to be on the show.

So I dont feel that bad for her because the only reason she appeared on this show was for the money and nothing else.

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Update:

Carphone warehouse have pulled sponsorship for Celeb Big Brother!

OUCH!

Now THAT will hurt !

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

...she said she wasn't in it for the money.....and even if she was people shouldn't treat her like that enyway....its just bullying....thats wat I think....!

CEO Channel 4 makes a statement and he got it dot on…this is an underlying problem that HASNT been confronted and he pretty much read my mind
http://bigbrother.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds11668.html
In full: Statement from C4 CEO Duncan
Day 16, 14:47 UTC - by James Welsh

Channel 4 CEO Andy Duncan has issued a statement on the Celebrity Big Brother controversy. The statement in full:

"In the seven years it has been on air Big Brother has seldom been far from the headlines.

"The reason it commands so much attention, intentionally or unintentionally, is that it goes to the heart of who we are as individuals and as a society.

"The latest series of Celebrity Big Brother has strayed into particularly controversial territory – the issue of racism and whether or not it remains ingrained in British attitudes despite all the progress we have apparently made towards becoming a truly multi-cultural society.

"The level of complaint and comment shows the programme has touched a real nerve.

"The debate has been heated, the viewing has at times been uncomfortable but, in my view, it is unquestionably a good thing that the programme has raised these issues and provoked such a debate. These attitudes, however distasteful, do persist – we need to confront that truth.

"What constitutes racism is a complex question. We have been monitoring extremely carefully events in the house and have reached the view that we cannot with certainty say that the comments directed at Shilpa have been racially motivated or whether they stem from broader cultural and social differences.

"We have already intervened with Danielle and, as viewers will see tonight, again with Jade where we felt their comments might be construed to have racist overtones. Producers also spoke to Shilpa today who said she did not feel that behaviour towards her was racist.

"We will not hesitate to intervene again if apparently racist behaviour occurs.

"Big Brother’s unique strength is that it is ultimately the public who will decide whether or not the behaviour of certain contestants has been unacceptable.

"Tomorrow night Jade and Shilpa will face the public vote. The British public has the opportunity to cut through the claim and counter-claim and pass its judgement on the events of the last week.

In the last 25 years Channel 4 has undoubtedly played a major role as a broadcaster to inform and educate viewers about issues of race. This is a role that I intend Channel 4 to continue playing."

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Unfair of this dude to judge without knowing the real reasons why she went on this show. Typical male chauvinist attitude - i know more than and about you! The world is a global place and we should be intermingling as much as we can - not standing in a corner saying ‘we refuse to join in because that would mean licking your boots!’ I bet this dude is suffering from teh same malady as Jade is - insecurity!

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

I found his comments interesting yet amusing considering the amount of Western films he has plagarized.

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Common, gather yourself together the lot of you

No point having online kerfuffles between yourselves because you're all one and the same as far as the jade goodys of the world are concerned.

Can't expect a white english female to respect our differences when we don't have the capacity to do that amongst ourselves

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

i dnt think its anything to do with racism, ppl out there in India just over reacting coz they didnt have no issue for a long time

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Maihu.. Racism is here .. genetically, culturally and visibly...

English people (have ruled the world in the past) 56 years back only they still had a hold on India and Pakistan..South Africa.... Hey Iraq now :| It's in their genes man.. They believe themselves superior and everyone else inferior.. Australians who are more outright racist were mostly criminals sent across from England and Ireland..

All Asian Brits subconsciousy know this .. Just that More indians and a majority of Pakistanis are unwilling to accept it..

What I want to say is I am happy to have the opportunity to learn from two cultures.. I learn the best from the Asian (Pk/Indian) culture and the best from English.. which insh'allah god willing makes me a better human being.

I don't hate any culture because every person/every culture/ every country has something good to teach and my thirst for knowledge means I will gain wherever I live..

Maybe we should accept our differences ... do our best.. and fight against what is wrong.. and realsie that Big Brother isn't someone behind a wall..

ALLAH ji works in wonderful ways .. Izzat/Baizati is all given by ALLAH ji..

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Lol at Confucius...you're right! Hum sab behin bhai hain...in the words of Danielle "I dont like conflicts" :(

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

u guys need to get over this indian pakistani thing and move on

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

apparently Tony Blair is in this now....and he is apologising to India and says that Britain doesnt stand for racism

SO WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THEN?????? points at BB

Re: Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother UK

Princess Shilpa has told Big Brother she doesnt believe Jade has been racist towards her.

There you have it.

Im now in two minds. Shilpa’s quite chalak, much more so than Jade. Sympathy and tea anyone? :halo:

P.S I wonder if anyone here has seen all 7 series of Big Brother. It is mostly *****ing and back stabbing 24/7. Do you not remember Helen wanting to ‘just slap’ Narinder. Helen being Welsh and Narinda being Sikh. No one said ‘racism’ then. Yes, I know its different as Narinder is British born. but its just women, thats what they do, b!tch and back stab.

Bullying I agree with. They have ganged up on her which is not acceptable.

However, previously on Big Brother when there is a divide in the house, each group usually has more than one member, in this case Shilpa is more or less on her own. Thats whats wrong with it all.
