Well I am here in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and the atmosphere here is anything but war-like. Although people are glued to their TV sets for minute-by-minute development on the war, the commercial world outside is doing usual brisk business with concerts, fashion shows, golf tourneys, lotteries and stuff going the way they always do over here. In fact, there were special meetings held on the eve of "shock and awe"-- for the next big camel race! Bukhatir is going to be one worried man....
Okay they heard you and Sharjah tournament is Cancelled.
Sharjah tournament called off
Reuters - 25 March 2003
A triangular one-day tournament in Sharjah next month has been called off, a Sri Lankan cricket official said on Tuesday.
South Africa withdrew from the event on Monday due to fears for player safety following the outbreak of war in Iraq.
“I was told it was cancelled,” Ajith Jayasekera, the Sri Lankan team manager told Reuters, adding he was unaware if the organisers were seeking an alternative venue.
Sri Lanka had been scheduled to play in the competition along with Pakistan and South Africa from April 1 to 10.
Gerald Majola, the chief executive of the United Cricket Board of South Africa, said on Monday the South African cricket board was discussing with the organisers possible alternative venues for the tournament.

Sharjah Cup could be moved](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Zimbabwe join Sharjah series)
Organisers of the Sharjah Cup are trying to move the triangular one-day tournament to Sri Lanka after South Africa pulled out because of security fears.
The World Cup hosts were due to take on Pakistan and Sri Lanka next month, but have refused to travel to the United Arab Emirates because of the Iraq war.
The withdrawal cast serious doubts that the tournament would go ahead, but organisers Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) are hopeful it can be switched to an alternative venue.
“We are having talks with the Sri Lankan board about moving the Sharjah Cup there,” CBFS president Quasim Noorani told BBC Sport on Tuesday.
"That would be our first option, and if that went through then of course we would expect South Africa to play.
"But if that doesn’t happen and we were left with Sharjah, then we would look at trying to get either Kenya or Zimbabwe to replace them.
“We will know more on Wednesday night after talks are at a more advanced stage.”
Vincent Hogg, managing director of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union, said no contact had been made by CBFS.
“This is news to me, but if we were to be asked then it is something the board woulod have to look at closely,” Hogg said.
“But I couldn’t pre-empt any decision now as there has been no contact yet.”
Zahid Noorani, chief executive of CBFS, said there were no security risks for the teams in Sharjah.
And the Pakistan Cricket Board have made it clear that they are prefectly willing to fulfil their commitment in Sharjah.
"Pakistan has no plans to pull out of the tournament even though we have been informed by the organisers that South Africa has withdrawn its team, PCB spokesman Samiul Hasan commented.
I think the best choice would be Sri Lanka, since Pakistan is out of the question and Morroco is boring as heck.
Sharjah is cancelled, oh crap.

New tournament organised in Sharjah
New tournament organised in Sharjah
Pakistan Cricket Board - 26 March 2003
Pakistan will take part in a tournament in Sharjah that will be played between April 3 and 10. The tournament is neither part of Pakistan Cricket Board’s contract with Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) nor it will be called the Sharjah Cup.
"It will be a one-off tournament. The CBFS has conveyed to us that Sri Lanka and Kenya have also confirmed their participation in the tournament. But the organizers are also trying to have Zimbabwe who have yet to confirm their participation.
“The PCB has accepted the proposal to play in a revised format tournament because it feels that it (tournament) would provide good opportunity to its players to have a taste of international cricket,” a spokesman of the PCB said Wednesday evening.
The spokesman added that the CBFS was expected to confirm the itinerary of the competition with other details by Thursday evening.

Thanks for the info a.k.b. Dont you think its kinda pushing it by trying have 4 teams play the tournament in 7 days!! It will probably mean there wouldnt be an off day if all the teams play each other and then two of them play the final.

Well ,I guess matches will be played every day.But good thing with having 4 teams is that every team will get good rest before their next match. After all they have to play 4 matches in 8 days if they go to final.Which is ok...
Infect with 3 teams it could have been different. 5 match in 8 days.
:)
Good chance for young Pakistani players to play against weaker teams so they can get their confidence up.

dont worry this is typical of liked of Umair. It always happens before each tournament .
Right, Mighty kenyans and former Wc champions Zimbwawe. I'm not saying it will be easy ride for Pakistan. These teams regardless of their current performace are still "weak". It's the best opportunity for the players to get their confidence up. We will know where they stand against weaker oppositions.
Allah ka bnda nothing wrong in caling these teams weak , the truth is they are.
On the side note I'm sure Umair meant Kenya and Zimb.Sri Lanka is a proffesional side and without Murali and they are bound to struggle. I'm not counting them weak by no means. They aren't unbeatable either. At current the Srilankan team is average.
Well i dont see it much of anencouraging signs. Sri lanka and South Africa would have provided this team a better realization test then Sri lanka Kenya and Zimbabwe can. Anywyas it will be good to have some cricket.
