This is for both men and women - are you comfortable with wearing shalwar kameez in public? Why or why not?

What about being seen with someone in traditional attire, even saari, for example?

I wear abaya in public…

But I wear shalwar kameez too in gatherings at times.Nothing uncomfy abt it.

a dhoti underneath, with a wifebeater on top with my flippy floppies on heading on down to the beach.

depends on the environment around, like in Pakistan I will think 100 times before wearing jeans/shirt in public and would prefer to wear shalwar kameez, trouser, and all that traditional stuff while in UK, I will think 100 times before wearing all that traditional stuff and prefer wearing casual jeans, shirt.

born and raised Aussie.. proud to wear shalwar kameez everywhere. But for some reason i discourage my husband wearing it in public . I’m always worried that someone may yell out something offensive to him and then he’d be hard to control, although no one has ever said anything to me.

After work I generally wear salwar kameez. I have no issues/problems wearing it when we go over to family/friends house. Living in Manchester its never an issue. As its so mixed culturally.

So, humbug nope, no issues here. If anything its more comfortable. BUT at work it has to be my slim fit suit.

i dont mind wearing it out! wear it all the time except when out with non pakistani and desi friends wear jeans and tops when in college though. my sister will never be caught dead in shalwar khamiz unless its a desi gathering

Hubby wears salwaar kameez at home every day when he comes from work
Outside, only on Eid

I wear salwaar kameez all the time, everywhere
even to work .. I love it and no one ever has ever said anything
get compliments from my colleagues all the time

I wear Shalwar Kameez every night. It’s the most comfortable sleeping attire. But outside I only wear Shalwar Kameez on Eid. Sometimes I would wear it outside when I’m in Pk as well, but even there it’s mostly shirt and jeans. So the vast majority of Shalwar Kameez I have at home are non-formal.

I am always wearing shalwar kameez no issues, after I gained weight I stopped wearing jeans,i know I look pathetic in jeans wth this weight

well I live in bahrain, I only wear salwar kameez for occasion or functions. Same goes for all my friends. I think if one of us turned up in a salwar kameez we would wonder what happened ?

I have hardly seen this generation people wear salwar kameez just randomly. Most cases if some one does wear anything then it is kurti with jeans or kurti with leggings, that I do when going to the theater to watch Indian movies, coz it s considered extremely casual or comfy.

I would love to wear saris for dinners and parties. But its a hassle, u need to waxed everywhere !!!

But in Bahrain , spotting a salwar kameez is not an odd thing. Its so common, u would not even second glance someone wearing it.

A lot of pakistani / afghani men wear their salwar kameez, I see them everyday waiting en route to work
