Re: Shaam ka Nashta

Yup niksik! Every Family has slight variations but this is how we make it in ours

In a non stick pan add a little oil i would say 1 teaspoon ( it should be a light dish)
Once oil is hot add half tsp of zeera and wait for it to start spluttering
Once it starts spluttering add half a chopped onion, 1 clove garlic, half a teaspoon of grated ginger and 1 finely chopped green chili (sometimes we use a dry red chilli giving a slightly different earthier falvour)
Once the onions start becoming translucent ( add chopped potato very finely sliced-optional) , a cup of green peas and sprinkle salt as per taste ,followed by 1 teaspoon coriander powder and quarter teaspoon turmeric powder
add a table spoon or so of water and cover on low flame for 10 minutes
Once done check for tenderness and sprinkle garam masala and simmer for a minute.

Serve with a squeeze of lemon and top it off with something crunchy-crushed namak para or bombay mix or anything of the kind.

Sometimes we add tomatoes too ( as shown in the picture)

I make it from andaza so you may have to change the quantities a little of spices etc according to your own tatse. I hope you like it :)

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

Not here anymore. In Pakistan I rememebr in my late teens, I used to make Namak Parey or Saltish pooris for afternoon snack for everyone but then dinner time was around 8:30pm. We take dinner around 6:30ish now so there is no place for afternoon snack in our schedule.

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

On weekends mostly. We call the namak parey, mattri.

Bhel puri is another favourite. Never had the ghughni, it looks so good!

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

el topo! try ghugni very easy to make I have posted the recipe a few posts above!

What is your recipe for Bhel Puri?

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

Inspiron, I just made some. Lemme post a pic!

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

We make something called ghum'ni (we're from UP as well) - but we make it out of chickpeas, though it has the same sort of look with the tomatoes and onions.

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

ooh loooks greattt niksik!!! YUMMYYY

Did it taste good??? I really hope it did

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

we make something called Ghoomni too- i think its slightly different to ghugni Sehrysh ( correct me if im wrong) we make ghoomni from kala channa.

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

i think the word u r referrring to is ghughrii ... it's made from sorghum...isn't it?

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

no definately Ghoomni!

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

LOL! I think all of these chaats are just slight variations of the same thing! We make one from kala channa and another from harra channa (not the fresh peas, but the dried ones, which are re-hyrdrated). They're a big hit during ramazan for aftaari.

We serve with thinly diced fresh onions, tomatoes and harra dhania.

Our ghum'ni is dry like your ghughni, not *salsala/*soupy like the picture you just linked to.

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

i think you guys should wrestle for who is right.

settle it like grown ups, ladies..

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

ours is dry too ( i dont know why that picture is soupy ) haha

Yes indeed a really big hit during iftaar almost everyday Kala Channa and Phulki are a must in our house hold, and yes the harra channa rehydrated with onions, chillii lemon juice and kaali mirch, YUM!

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

Are you thinking mud...

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

kala channa ghughni/ghoomni whatever it is its yummy

Re: Shaam ka Nashta

inspiron, it is yummy! I didn't have tomatoes today so I skipped that.
