Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

I dont mind eating leftover or recycled food and if its one of my fav dish (read biryani, Qeema, Fish Salan, etc), I can eat that in 3..4..5 meals

Now wonder my wife fav sentence is “aap yee kha rahey hain ya main phaink doon” :bummer:

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

if i get food without cooking i would like fresshhh roooz
if i hv to cook :bummer: i can eat leftovers :cb:
but cant serve the same thing 3rd time …

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

I am dead against the concept of not being able to eat leftovers ! I have seen this in desi families particularly where they feel its an absolute must that men should be fed fresh food every day … Eventually the kids in those families grow up disliking leftover food and dont mind wasting it !

There is no hard in presenting food third or even forth time , as long as food is edible , to be honest ! ghar ka paka khana doesnt go kharab just coz its two days old !
Nakhray ka kia hai , jitna bara lo barta jaaye ga bi :naraz:

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

Food doesn't go bad but even my chotay say it's boring to eat the same food more than twice :D

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

My hubby and I can eat leftovers from 4-5 days old and never waste food but we can't keep eating same thing for that long because we like variety. I cook fresh everyday because it's healthier and food tastes A LOT better too!

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

urghgh....no leftovers for me please.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

i do what most of you do.. cook enough for dinnr and then left ovver for lunch.. if its still in th fridge on the 3rd day.. it goes in the bin after an utterance of allah maaf kare .. and the blame would go on me or mil for cookign too much.

though what we usually do if we feel that we made too much and we know we dont wanna serve it 3 days in a row.. is freeze it.. and then try to use it up soon.

otherwise im very much against freezing food that has already been sitting in teh fridge for 2 days before being frozen ...

it all comes down to ... is it better to put crap in your body or the dustbin? i choose the latter... thankfully it doesnt happen too often.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

oh i don't mind feeding them to others.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

Psyah, please take note.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

:D

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

recycled food ? :D, that sounds disgusting ..

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

What is wrong with intentionally cooking for the food to last 2-3 days. I grew up in a family of 2 (me and my mom) and eventhough she ONLY had to cook for 2 people, she always made food to last 2-3 days. Yes, it gets boring, but SO WHAT? If your wife, mother, etc. is a good cook who cares if you have to eat it an extra day. Like honestly there are people in this world that don't even have enough money to make a proper meal and men complain about not eating fresh food everyday.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

nothing wrong if that is the understanding of all the involved parties.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

Preferance. We all have them. U grew up like that and dont mind it. Another would. As long as the server and servee both agree on eating old food... Thats perfectly fine.... Its a problem if the woman thinks its ok to keep serving old food when she knows others dont like it. Instead of throwing it out cuz no one ate it on day 3 or 4, she should make less to begin with.

I dont like to eat the same food 3 days in a row and im no man.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

I don't mind eating left overs. but prefer fresh food. We cook almost everyday :)

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

wow! thx niksik

You have just made me feel much better

I used to feel maybe I dont know how to cook enough,I use smaller pots and pans
so if someone comes unannounced,we take them out or order pizza
so felt not a sughar lady

having said ..I can cook for 30/40 ppl for a planned dinner
I cook small quantities sometimes not even enough for leftovers :cb:

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

A tip for all us GIRLS who dont like to eat basi khana, but dont have time to cook full meals everyday

if you cook a large quantity serve half and freeze half immediately..that is bulk cooking
when you're running late just take out a frozen option ,if its daal just need to fry some kebabs (we all have those in freezer)
a new meal ready

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

Good tips GOI ..

that is exactly what Niks does. She freezes half immediately (especially in case of Haleem and Nihari). Also when its just daal, she fries some kabab or bake some chicken with it.

Re: Serving left over vs cooking less to begin with

When I first got married,I had the problem of cooking too much...was used to a large family. But my mum told me to feeze half in small portions and take them out later. It made sense, since we were both working.
Now,I am more experienced,we rarely have leftovers.Any salan has a handful of rice added, and the kids have it for lunch with yoghurt.
TBH...I would not expect my husband to eat the same leftovers for three or four days in a row.He works hard, and it's not too much to have a nice fresh meal at the end of a long day.I myself would not mind,'cos I hate throwing any food away.

To answer the question...I blame the ladies for not getting the quantity right...if they have been cooking for some time.
