Sorry to differ but this ayah is not continuation of ayah 168, I'll give the reference from Ibn Abbas(ra) as well but first think logically, Allah says in this Ayah "Follow what Allah has sent down.'' **They say: "Nay! We shall follow what we found our fathers following.'',** Ok I can agree that Allah is addressing the whole mankind in the first part of ayah, but in 2nd part of the ayah it is definately only non-believers who are saying *"Nay! We shall follow what we found our fathers following.'' *
No here is the reference from Ibn Kathir:
(170 When it is said to them: "Follow what Allah has sent down.'' They say: "Nay! We shall follow what we found our fathers following.'' (Would they do that!) even though their fathers did not understand anything nor were they guided) (171. And the example of those who disbelieve is as that of him who shouts to those (flock of sheep) that hear nothing but calls and cries. (They are) deaf, dumb and blind. So they do not understand.)
Allah states that if the disbelievers and polytheists are called to follow what Allah has revealed to His Messenger and abandon the practices of misguidance and ignorance that they indulge in, they will say, "Rather. We shall follow what we found our fathers following,'' meaning, worshipping the idols and the false deities. Allah criticized their reasoning: [FONT=Traditional Arabic]﴿أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ءَابَاؤُهُمْ﴾ ((Would they do that!) even though their fathers), meaning, those whom they follow and whose practices they imitate, and: [FONT=Traditional Arabic]﴿لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ شَيْئًا وَلاَ يَهْتَدُونَ﴾ (...did not understand anything nor were they guided) meaning, they had no sound understanding or guidance.** Ibn Ishaq reported that Ibn `Abbas said that this was revealed about a group of Jews whom Allah's Messenger called to Islam, but they refused, saying, "Rather, we shall follow what we found our forefathers following.'' **So Allah revealed this Ayah (2:170) above."

Bro, this is not specifically referring to the Jews... The address of 168 is "O Mankind!" and this is the continuation. The chapter on The cow covers a lot of material...
I did not say (neither the scholar whom I mentioned said) that Allah was talking to Jews., rather talking about Jews (there is a difference).
I agree that the adress is O Mankind, the reference is Jews. The whole Sura Baqara was revealed to contradict Jew's propaganda of that time

Yes I understand now, but what I posted from ibn kathir is "shan -e- nizool" of the ayah. This ayah was revealed after jews said this to Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and you're right that this ayah can be implied on ignorant and proud muslims who say the same stuff like those jews.

Quran is timeless… do not make it “Mahjuur” to a day and age. This is what I do not agree with in terms of Ibn-e Kathir’s OPINION.
If that were so, the address would have been “Ya Bani Israa’el” and not “Ya Bani Aadam”… God does not make mistakes… Read my earlier statement.

I did not say that Allah is not talking to Mankind. You are confusing yourself. The adresee is O Mankind, the reference was given of Jews as a Daleel-e-Naqali.
In simple, Allah is talking to Mankind about Jews. Why the confusion?

Ibn Abbas(ra) is not restricting the ayah to any day or age but has only described when and why this ayah revealed and Ibn Kathir has quoted from him.

Jheenga is makrooh-e-Tehreemi in Hanafi fiqh, not haraam, which means if you get a feeling of disgust only then it becomes haraam for you otherwise not.
I read up on lobsters and Crabs and found out that according to hanafi fiqh, they are not considered edible. Before that I was following a different ruling according to which all sea animals are OK... But Imam Abu Hanifa makes disctinctions in the light of several traditions and I find the reasoning reasonable ...I am going to avoid them from now on as well.
PS: I do not have problem with jheenga though.
PS 34: In following a school of thought, I follow the hadith - a simple rule of thumb - which states that follow things which your heart is satisfied about and leave which, it is not.
