Pity deedawar u dont see it. We all have one opinion Sati should not be in Hinduism. Jumping into pyre and calling it Sati would not be a proper word for the act commited by the lady in question here. Sati whatever that has been practices after it was banned in India are not done by the ladys willingly but by the relatives who wanted to have a monetary benefits. Sati is maligned in that way. Here the lady commited suicide. Since she jumped into the pyre it was called Sati.

Thats OK if you hate Aurengzeb for whatever reason (being a pious and virtuous muslim but not a hindu) but he showed a great mercy on these women and acted bravely to ban this barbaric ritual.
Please stick to Sati and learn at least some honesty from Ssingh on this issue.
I dont know much about aurangzeb, i have not gone into history in detail. But i do know that muslims call him a 'peer', whereas sikhs and hindus dislike him. HIstoy is history. I want to say only one thing, past is past, just forget it. and move on. Now i do feel, this very starting point of sati, is when seeta was asked to proove her chastity or 'purity' by entering pyre in ramayana. with ages it took many different meanings, even making its way to puranas, i guess. But again, nobody is a witness to this. I think we better close this thread, now. and enjoy our lifes or do our "karmas":)
Indian leader Rajaram Mohan Roy, through his organization Brahmo Samaj was among the first who fought to eliminate Sati. The ritual of sati was banned by the British Government in 1829.

If Sati was banned in 1659, how come it was still prevalent in 1829 for British Govt. to bring a law and Raja RamMohan Roy to start a fullfledged movement.
Again good to pat each others back in saying see I told these Hindus that your religion sucks..... Following are the points made by most of us..
1. It may have started in name of religion, like Jehad, but that's not the right interpretation of whichever book people followed.
2. It became more prevalent during Muslim invasion during middle centuries which were barbaric and took women as loot and didn't respect it.
We all have agreed that Sati is bad...

The simple reason.....hindus never listened to Aurengzeb and became more tyrant and openely broke the rulings after him...Just like today people are breaking law...... and since people are breaking the law we start believing there is no law against Sati in Bharat?
I think you need to start thanking muslims to bring so much good to sub-continent including stopping the ritual of burning women alive in the name of religion.

i was watching geo tv a few weeks ago and they were showing a woman going on an expedition to pakistani deserts. She went from village to village and there she discovered that the people practice widow-killing (despite it being banned in pakistan). An old village folk told her how the brides recieve some sorta 'revelation' and choose to die with their husbands death. and how its ok for the husband to marry again after the wife's death.
I dont know if they burn their dead (they also believed in reincarnation so im guessing they were hindu and do burn them) but i saw the documentary while pre-occupied with something so not sure. surprised this happens in pakistan.

anyway....deedawar you mentioned women as a loot...this could be tru atleast to a certain extent. one of your friend took the help of mathematics to explain the practice of al-anfal and said hindus should be made 'dhimmies'. Instead of the above statement being realtiy, women will certainly prefer to die...I think thats why sati was more among rajputs.
You did not answer to the post and repeated what is said earlier and discussed already. We have no 'brutal' muslim army in India or Pakistan killing hindus..and yet Sati goes on.............

Who ever said that Sati is good, that point is beaten to death where everybody has accepted/agreed that its bad. Only thing left is for guppies to come down on four, write on a piece of paper in court on a stamp paper to prove to you that we all agree that Sati is bad...
now you keep adding connotation to that with Hinduism and India.... than people will question your motives........ and that's what you have been doing all the time....
