~Sarees~

Re: ~Sarees~

raatkirani, you are right in describing the butterfly pallu. What you see in this pic IS the pallu, so the flower thing comes at the shoulder and the rest drapes on the back.

Re: ~Sarees~

i love the butterfly palloooss!!

Re: ~Sarees~

this is my personal favourite! I have been looking for a sari like this one for ages but havent come across anything like this..it’s simple and elegant..I am not much into too much Kaam…
I was recently in pakistan and looked possibly everywhere to get something like this..but couldn’t find one. I am pretty sure the designers had it but i wanted it for a reasonable price …meh.

Re: ~Sarees~

^I think u can get it made , no?

I love saris with borders...

Re: ~Sarees~

Oooh Peshow, i like the white one! Its absolutely gorgeous!

Re: ~Sarees~

nice sarees mashallah

piyari si bachi i have this type of saree in peacock green color with black border. i'll post the pic sometime.

@peshow - u r looking very nice :)

Re: ~Sarees~

I always thought the exact opposite was true. My mom's "good" Banarsi sarees are all made from thin, soft, almost tissue-like silk, and drape very well...while the kanchipuram sarees I've seen at the store are made from a really thick silk fabric, and look like they'd be much harder to drape...

Peshow-- u look really nice....Can't see your face but It looks like saris really suit you! :)

Re: ~Sarees~

You might be right, I am in no way an expert in terms of saris
the banaras saris I have seen are so thick and elegant and are almost always used for a bride but maybe that's a particular style/type of banaras sari and there might be others that are of a thin material. I always thought banaras saris are named that way because of the city that they are made in- banaras in UP.

kanchivaram is town in south india and so the saris made there are named that.

Maybe a sari shop keeper would be the best person to ask:D.

Re: ~Sarees~

these banaras saris are a particular type: But they are completely bridal saris and soooooo heavy, don’t know the style name though…anybody out there know what type/style of banaras saris they are?

these look so heavy and hard to drape around but sooo beautiful

Re: ~Sarees~

this is another kind of kanchivaram sari that I bought but it's not as simple and is full of zari. I guess when you have that much zari it will end up being a bit thick.

ps:excuse my haaal in this pic, I was dead tired and my necklace is in a complete knot and completely messed up.

Re: ~Sarees~

apparently these are hugely in fashion in dubai right now… plain chiffon saris with just the border in this style. mom’s getting me one  i asked for an eggplant purple but she says they didn’t have that color so she might get me either a royal blue or emerald green one. i’ll post the pics when i get it. she said she’d get me a heavy blouse piece with it since the sari is so plain.

Re: ~Sarees~

Get the EMERALD one!!
you'll look stunning in it

Re: ~Sarees~

SGC yes get the emerald one.. it'll be so hot!
my friend got one made when we were in lucknow.. i absolutely loved it.. it was a plain chiffon bottle green with a banarsi border.. it looked so amazing when finished!
