I always thought the exact opposite was true. My mom's "good" Banarsi sarees are all made from thin, soft, almost tissue-like silk, and drape very well...while the kanchipuram sarees I've seen at the store are made from a really thick silk fabric, and look like they'd be much harder to drape...
Being a guy, I apologize for replying to this quote. I beive that sarees of material called "mysore silk" also "look just like banarsi sarees" and are made of quite soft and relatively thin fabric that drape well and with ease. So the sarees that you are referring to could be that of mysore silk :)

SGC no u're getting an eggplant colored one! My mom gave me an embossed eggplant colored sari...with an antique border..and it's ufff so pretty!

Umar Sayeed has this exquisite watermelon color sari...that I want really bad! Even the sari Nadia Malik was wearing for the 2005 lux style awards in Dubai (by Umar) was simply gorgeous!

There's a shop in Dubai called "jashn" sari's, Celina Jaitley came-up with those..they have such pretty colors and crystal-work...gorgeous! Very feminine..
