Re: Sardar "Jokes"
I asked you if those jokes target their religious aspect/religious figures/rituals?

Re: Sardar "Jokes"
When you make fun of a "Sardar", you are making fun of an entire race. You are not making fun of a particular denomination of Sikhism or their practices. It is worse than that. It is worse than saying just Mullahs, a minority within Islam, are idiots. When you make a "Sardar" joke you are saying ALL Sikhs, disrespective of their particular beliefs are dirty idiots. You are saying that ALL are horrible dancers. You are saying ALL reuse their underwear. You are saying ALL are idiots.
It is the same as posting a "Paki" joke in the Jokes forum. "Sardar", just like "Paki" is racist. Pakistanis popularized "sardar" and the English popularized "paki". Both are unacceptable.
The problem thus, as Faisal points out, is our double standard. We'll make fun of Hindus and Sikhs. We'll spit on Jews and Christians. Then we'll all laugh. When someone makes fun of Muslims we are quick to demand apologies and respect, but when it comes to disrespecting other cultures we have no problem. If we're going to stop "Paki" jokes or "Rag Head" jokes we better make sure we stop "Sardar" jokes. Or even "Pathan" jokes.
Re: Sardar “Jokes”
that is a bit wrong assumption… No one is approving any insults to any race or culture…
If you look closely, we are talking about the fact that the reason Muslim jokes are taken a bit far is because of the fact that when you disrespect something about a minority called Mullah, you disrespect his beard, his attire, his amaamah … all these can very well be the sunnah of the prophet:saw: hence, not appreciated at all… In other case, while it is also not acceptable as per Islamic teachings, people get away because no one disrespects any religious noble figure of that religion…
simple is that!
Re: Sardar "Jokes"
i second the first post.
I agree. From now on all sardar jokes will be referred to as danial jokes.
Re: Sardar “Jokes”
I know one in this very thread and he is the first one to laugh at sardar jokes ![]()
Re: Sardar “Jokes”
Like once this punjabi sindhi and pathan die and go up. There they beg and plead for one more chance at life. So they are granted one more chance to live provided that they have to live like saints. One wrong move and they come back.
So on the way back the sindhi sees this beautiful na-mehram girl and he proceeds to go after her and hit on her. Suddenly there is a loud thunder and ZAP he disappears.
When the punjabi and pathan get back to earth, the punjabi sees a 10 rupee note lying on the ground. As he bends down to pick up the 10 rupee note, there is a loud thunder and ZAP the pathan disappears.

You have a point, however I think we are carrying this too far. No one means disrespect through these jokes, be it sardar, pathan, muslims or hindus. if we are going to stop posting jokes about all these than to be politically correct we should not allow any jokes which mentions or targets any particular groups. Why let jokes about mullahs go through or blondes or man or women, they are all particular groups. how far do you want to go. Give me a way out where no one particular group, race or ethnicity is not offended.
Re: Sardar "Jokes"
While I agree in general about the racial bias in some posts, I honestly believe that these days we are taking political correctness to an unwanted level. And why is it that we get so offended so quickly these days? For example, if someone posts a joke, where instead of 'Sardar ji', they put a 'Syed sahab' in a hilarious situation, will I be offended? Not really. A joke is a joke. There are some communities that have a better sense of humor than the others. Polish being one. They are the butt of jokes as well. Blondes are stereotyped as bimbos and jokes are written all over on blondes. Does it mean that all blondes should constantly be agitated that people are stereotyping them?
By the way, despite constant rebuttals posted here, many recent events on Gupshup (and in general) have convinced me that as a community, muslims have perhaps the lowest sense of humor possible, and absolutely can not take a joke on themselves. I don't know what kind of hang-up we have, but whatever it is, is very self-destructive.
I'm sure you've heard of Ummah Films and Maniac Muslim?
