Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

For starters I am not, in fact I will be cancelling my order shortly that I placed for the SS lawn, deposit means nothing to me at this point
Seeing this picture made my blood boil, who gives these designers or anyone the right to make a mockery of so many people’s misery? If they can’t help them in anyway why flaunt your wealth in their faces? now I get why my dad always tells me not to buy anything ‘designer’ especially from pakistan, I am disgusted. Sorry SS but you have lost my vote ‘janni’
p.s: and who is the woman with the big LV on her shoulder, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry…I think I’ll cry :frowning:

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

Exactly.. At the end of the day those porters got paid for being in the photo, I hope. When I look at the ad I see a privileged woman who is engaging with the poor around her and she hires them to carry her stuff. Many of you wouldn't even look twice at those porters let alone allow them to touch your designer bags.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

^^Shukar hai! Overtly sensative hoja thai hai hum loag.

Its his job - whats it matter if her carries a hermes or LV or samsung?

I personally thought the indian pictures are adorable.

More about the controversy:

Anger at Sana Safinaz ad misses the forest for the trees « Obama Says Do More

I don’t think it was in bad taste and they were trying too hard…

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

I agree with TT here :O

A lot of comments in this thread had me laughing. I bet the majority of the people who are indignant and grossed out by the add would have had nothing against it if this had not been pointed out.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

^Actually, I was disgusted the minute I spotted it.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

And that my friend is the reason we have cotton pickers who earn 50 rupees a day because what is the matter its their job right.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

This is so fugly.

She calls herself a designer? She just put a logo from another major brand on a plain suit.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

I get what you're saying.. But they couldn't have made the porters look a little better so it didn't look like such a stark contrast between rich and poor? Because that is essentially what it's coming off as.. Like they wanted stir controversy. I'm sure a lot of people who didn't know what SS was before, know now.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

:smack: and it is Louboutin shoes too .. as if LV bags were not doing the job :halo:

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?

off topic but I just came across this and couldnt help sharing here :smack: hamari qaum kitni obsessed aur complexed hai ! CUPCAKES ? seriously ?

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

I'm sorry but what do you mean by "make them look a little better"? Should they have used a gora chitta model posing as a coolie instead of the dark skinned ones you see in the ad? It's not like they're wearing dirty torn clothes so I don't see what else should have been touched up by the ad makers to make them look better?

And why shy away from the reality? The reality that such a stark contrast does exist between the rich and the poor in the continent. Have we never used the services of a porter like the woman in the ad? Don't we employ maids and servants? Don't we have a bulk of the society still living in "jhuggis"? Why portray a fairy tale'ish image of the society when in fact it is far from it?

This uproar reminds me of some of the critics' comments about Slumdog Millionaire... they complained that a very dark image of India had been portrayed... and people like Amitabh made these comments while sitting in their mansions.... yeah guess what, a world exists outside of your palace ... poverty is extreme in countries like India and Pakistan... instead of trying to brush it under the carpet, do something about it... Instead of buying a 50,000 ka Sana Safinaz outfit, how many of us will give that money away to the needy? None of us perhaps. Fazool ka rona.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

I've just seen the whole ad on video and it looks like model was traveling in Oriental Express or something and that comes with getting service from proper suited booted porters, so I really don't understand the featuring of Pakistani station *koolies. *Maybe there's an part of the ad...

As with making porters looking better, I can't say what exactly the original poster meant but I was thinking that they could've hired professional models to play the role of porters, like how it works in Western campaigns and magazine editorials. All the fashion Houses in Western countries would be sued to liquidation if they start flaunting luxury by visibly exposing and exploiting poor.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

Btw, if you don't see anything wrong with the ad, good for you, state your opinion and let it rest here. No need to take judgmental digs at posters.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

This is what I was thinking. This ad just brings an everyday reality to your doorstep. You can't ignore it.

I actually liked the video commercial ....

There are no standards or guidelines in Pakistan when it comes to media and advertising. Sure, they would be sued in the West, but nothing will happen in Pakistan. The fashion designers in the photo above should be sued for using the LV and Ralph Lauren trademark images, but I doubt anything will happen.

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

Well for all I know I am truly offended with the advert .. The textile industry has been raking in monies big time in Pakistan, they hardly pay their taxes, their clientele are the wives and daughters of the politicians, beaurocrats, Army Generals and businessmen .. all of whome have a record in earning money in the most non halal ways possible ..

so , the "class" and "glamour" that they are trying to depict , they should keep to themselves without really involving the poor under privileged class.

And those of you who think a few porters got paid ! its nothing short of a joke now , is it , in a country like Pakistan they would have hardly been paid!

Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?

Now that would be a battle worth fighting - About time Pakistan had a minimum wage that was employers were actually accountable for.

My point wasnt aimed at the compensation of either profession rather that carrying luggage is what he does for a living and he wouldnt care what class of bag he's holding.

So what would you prefer - that they not be used and carry on with thier normal day to day making what 500PKR instead of the couple of thousand that they got for the ad?

Yeh that fixes things.

As for the indian ads - we're all missing the point.
The baghwati concept - place a high end product in a normal situation and its doesn't give average people wings. They are still average people. :)
