Here’s the latest ad that’s causing a lot of online fury:
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
What's offensive about it? If its about the excessive in the face of deprivation then isnt that the norm in Pak anyway?
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
I guess people feel that highlighting that in a way to make it seem glamorous AND to sell stuff is in poor taste.
Then again, others, like you, say if it's the truth for the elite and that's how the upper classes view the lower classes, then it's just SS knowing their clientele very well.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
Exactly...I wouldnt be surprised if the whole kerfuffle is a marketing ploy too...Pakistan is catching up....always in the wrong things though
BTW, I am more offended by the plasticy look of the model from photoshopping
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
Maybe they were trying to copy the United Benetton ads, and just got it wrong?
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
Not very thoughtful and sensitive to say the least.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
Oh and I'm happy that we have people who are willing to look at the bigger picture and speak out against this stuff.

Someone in the comments to the ad mentioned it's a rip off of something Vogue India did. But I don't know what the comment was referring to.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
^I'm wondering that too.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?
Apparently the same juxtaposition: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/01/business/worldbusiness/01vogue.html
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
I am all for creative licenses, but I must admit, this ad hit a low for me. I find it lame and insensitive. I had already made up my mind not to give in to the hype and shell out $100+ for designer lawn suits this year, and this ad campaign just solidifies my stance. I think it's extremely stupid to do an add for lawn dress against a backdrop of LV luggage (or with an hermes bag as with Asim Jofa)...I am all for promoting Pakistani labels, and was ecstatic when Shireen Obaid Chinoy wore Bunto at the Oscars, but this, to me, is just trying to hard.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?
wow
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
To be honest I dont get the outcry...this is what happens in Pakistan and India on a daily basis, the rich flaunting their wealth to the have-nots...whether inadvertently or not. You have people spending exorbitant about of money on weddings without any guilt, and at the same time you have these workers/laborers at the same weddings working for the peanuts.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
^^agreed...you are totatally right...so keep it should be kept to oneself and within one's social circle/contemporaries. don't do an in-your-face ad campaign/media blitz like this...it makes SS seem crass, IMO. and i'm sorry, as much as i love Pakistani fashion, SS is no where near or on par with LV! when they become true couturiers and don't have the exact same wedding dress sold to 100's of brides a year, without the slightest change in design, then maybe they can swim with the big boys....
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?
I don’t get it…can someone explain it? ![]()
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?
Are they even allowed to use LV in the ads?
I think the ad is disgusting and unnecessary. As soon as I opened the pics - the clothes didn’t stand out, the back drop did. Could it be that SS has nothing good to show us this year so they’re creating hype using a political/social ad campaign?
And yes, while this may happen everyday in Pakistan between the rich and poor, to me SS is using this situation to gain publicity, the plight of their OWN people to sell their over-priced lawns. Not cool
.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign – What do you think?
Yup one look at it and it seems a bit too inspired by Vogue India editorial which caused a stir as well. Here are the pics.
guy carrying a burberry umbrella
chk out those shoes

P.S : I personally loved the Vogue India shoot. Didn’t seem that offensive to me. It’s kitsch in a fun way.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
I've never seen that vogue photoshoot until now. wow that's ridiculous.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
I just watched their ad campaign on Geo Tv. They have shown Neha on a railway station , then travelling in a train (probably the business class one they launched few weeks back) and then moving around in the train cabin and corridors with every scene showing her wearing a different print. I was disturbed to see the ad campaign pictures yesterday as well but if we take it this way like it is shown in the video ad, it makes a better sense why does she have her branded luggage along and a porter following her carrying her bags in the still shots.
Re: Sana Safinaz Controversial new ad campaign -- What do you think?
Unless its a collaboration no major brand would feature another in an ad campaign - its kinda tacky in my eyes - it shows SS need to ride on someone else's back to express their positioning. Clever brands do this on their own.
