How is it an effort to change anything when it is just a gesture not a common practice? The maulvis agreed to perform it there. Maybe they performed it in a place where idols were not visible. There is no shortage of Masjids making them do it. It is a gesture of communal harmony. Anyway don’t worry you are not being made or asked to do anything. It is an isolated example. Also, did you read the story of the guy they did it for. His father was in jail for murder and his mother could not afford it. She approached the mandir for help. The guy died in a road accident. Maybe no one would have performed prayers for him.
How do you know the prayers occurred in a room of idols or are you assuming? It could have occurred in many rooms inside the temple. It was all consensual.
Please read this story of the Muslim child raised by a Hindu father. The child was abandoned by his parents. Might shock you that such stories happen but they are true. The father never married because he didn’t want anyone to affect the upbringing of his child. and he basically existed just to take care of his son. This Hindu father himself was abandoned and raised by Muslim parents.
