Re: Ross Michigan

PhatBalongri, can you get me in touch with a Ross alum?

Re: Ross Michigan

me too.....

Re: Ross Michigan

Though, Ross is not among Ultra-Elites (Wharton, HBS, Stanford, University of Chicago, Kellogg, MIT and Columbia), it is one of the strongest business schools among Elite business schools (Tuck, Ross, Cornell, Duke,Yale, Darden, NYU, Anderson, Haas). Ross is specifically known for its excellent GM and consulting-specific education. Also check the following link.

Re: Ross Michigan

Thanks for the info....r u an mba student???? Any mba students have any advice for future mba's???

Re: Ross Michigan

what type of information are you looking for? and why Ross in particular?

Re: Ross Michigan

i just want to know how Ross is in general such as teaching quality, opportunities for internship, something unique abt their school or something they do differently. Also wanted to know what most employers think of that school as a good school or just ordinary.
In most of the rankings that I found, Ross just kind of fit into what I wanted to do. I have a bachelors in business-marketing and supply and logistics....i want to get an MBA and focus on marketing and maybe management.

Re: Ross Michigan

Ross is a top-notch business school and there is no second opinion about it. BW (Businessweek) ranked it among top six B-schools this year and it has been consistently ranked among top 10 business schools for last ten years or so. Admission to Ross would be really tough but it is difficult for me to comment on your chances unless I know more details of your background (GPA, GMAT, EC activities, job progression, short term goals, long term goals etc). Ross enjoys an excellent reputation for General Management education. In addition, it is also good for consulting as many top management/strategic-consulting firms including Mck/BCG/Bain recruit at Ross regularly. If you want a career in Finance (IB/IM/PE/VC/HF), I am not sure Ross would be a great choice.

In response to one of your earlier questions, No, I am not an mba student right now and currently waitlisted at Columbia and Wharton in Round 2. Regards.

Re: Ross Michigan

pyaari for marketing you may want to look at Kellogg.

Re: Ross Michigan

With gurus like Kotler and Sawhney, it can’t get any better than Kellogg for Marketing :k:

Re: Ross Michigan

hey thanks for the suggestion.....i ordered an info sheet from kellogg too....but aren't they harder to get into thank Ross??? Or just as competitive?

Re: Ross Michigan

Had the benefit of being in both gentlemen’s classes.
sawhney was my mentor for sometime. I need to get back in touch with him.

Re: Ross Michigan

u guys both went to Ross???? What type of GPA do u need in order to get in??? I am so worried now...

Re: Ross Michigan

No Sawhney and Kotler are profs at Kellogg.

I did not go to Kellogg for my MBA, I went to Temple. I was accepted at Kellogg but did not get an assistantship so was out of my reach. I did the three continent iMBA at Temple here is a link to that.

I did Kelloggs executive program (KMI)

my undergrad GPA was just above 3.0. GMAT of 670. had pretty strong recommendations, but the work experience and my general leadership/extra curriculars were what closed the deal in my view. 35 leadershipa nd atheletics awards at uni, also from mayor and governer, served as chair for student government, vice captain of uni soccer team, vice captain of uni racquetball team, man of the year award from Interfraternity council etc.

Re: Ross Michigan

what extra curricular did u do??? Do u think that an internship at the senators office would be good??? I called and asked yesterday and she said all they do is help out the admin...doing the little jobs....does that still work??? Or something else?

Also when u talk abt leadership....are they just management positions that they require? Or are they groups u join within the community?

Re: Ross Michigan

edited my post to add some extta curriculars.

the big ones I have listed, others were
VP of fraternity
VP of interntaional business association
Pres of Council of International student associations (council of all international student associations)
deans advisory council- school of business
dean of students advisory council

I basically spent more time schmoozing than I did studying

U just have to make yourself stand out. my othr pals who had applied to Kellogg, Thunderbird and Temple with better gpas and similar Gmat scores did not get in. so I think it was the work experience, and exta curriculars that did it. I may have interviewed better too. I dunno

Re: Ross Michigan

most of that was from uni.....i messed up...i just studied and didn't do all of the extra stuff....is there something i can do to make up for it??? All I did was be a senator representing the business school....for short term though.... so what can i do to makeup for that???
