Role of women in world's major religions and why?

Re: Role of women in world's major religions and why?

Deedawar….do you understand the theory of evolution? Your problem is that you want to look at other religions thru an Islamic goggle….that there must be a Prophet giving his rulings in all matters of life and it must become ‘dogma’ for all coming centuries and generations.

Today Hindu religion does not support polygamy, it does not support child marriage and it does not support the idea that the woman is inferior. And it does not support to beat your woman.
And if a Hindu wants to do something like that, he may have no support from any sector and may end in jail.
Can you say the same for Islam?

Do you know how the Hindu religion is glorified by women?........Ever hear of the epos Mahabharata? The main character of Mahabharata Lord Krishna was trying to appease the opponents to avoid war, but it was a woman, Draupadi, who argued with him and convinced him that a war must take place.

In Ramayana Sita argued with Ravana and convinced him that he could not touch her without her permission.

For centuries we can give examples of thousands of women who had shown enough courage in the society.

What you have to show? Nothing……only words.

If a man can beat his woman for her refusal to satisfy him, why she cannot beat her man for the same?............But in Islam the satisfaction is a copyright of man only. Is it wrong?

Veil is very much Islamic; because for Islam only woman is considered to be a source for encouragement for sex…..you forget that in any case she has her eyes open to look at men.
(If it is not Islamic….go and tell Muslim women to remove all kind of Hijabs and enjoy the sun, I mean vitamin D.)

Anyhow I can agree to all your allegations only if you tell me…….

'Can any one count at least fourteen Muslim women out of last fourteen centuries who achieved some goals in public life without any opposition from the religious sector?'

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Next time don’t tell us not to Judge Islam by the acts of Muslims!

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

I did not know you would be so upset in me pointing out to you that you need to commit to something which belongs to your religion and stop taking excuse of calling religious teachings as ‘dogmas’ as you mentioned earlier.

Moreover, stop using statement like you had no formal religious learning so I have no idea what you are talking about.
Remember, ignorance is not an excuse. Otherwise say that I will search for it to give an answer or I stand corrected.

You hide behind this noton and whenever get confronted you state this is not hinduism..or this is not how hinduism is today!

Again as I mentioned above…the key word in your statement is "Today Hindu religion…"
Is hinduism different today and will be different tomorrow?
Is hinduism different on Monday than Tuesday?
Is there any credibility in your own way of life we call religion?
Tomorrow you will say something different when get confronted so what’s the point of discussion?

Sure I can.
Islam does not condone child marriage. Age of adulthood has different meaning all over the world. Thats another topic though.
The whole idea of this thread is to show that Islam does not in any way promotes that women are inferior to men…!!!

These are stories and some may be true…but hinduism has for centuries exploited women and again…the religion itself, not just society.

Where did get this silly idea of getting a woman beat up for refusal to ‘satisfy’ a man?

First of all, both man and women have absolute obligation to each other for giving satisfaction (and much more than that) and any one of them can ask for divorce if there is a sexual problem in opposite person without prejudice or penalty.
(Now I am not talking about crazy animal like sexual desires to be satsfied by the opposite person as the rules apply only to usual and reasonable circumstances)

There is a high price one has to pay for beating or abusing his wife in Islam.
There is only one extreme exception and that is only after verbal, social and humble negotiation… and despite that if a woman sleeps around or betrays the husband… only then husband is allowed to use force to admonish but not to hurt her to irrepairable extent. What a nice and humble approach to save a family from breakup or humiliation outside.
Whats’ even greater about it is that a man gets not much of leeway and has to face severe punishment if commits adultery.

(there are places in islamic world where a man gets locked up for at least one night if he abuses his wife)

A woman on the other hand is advised not to use force as (even you could understand) that she will never be able to overcome man’s power and may get forceful retaliation from already bad guy. So its going to be lose lose situation for her.
I can’t believe that I have to explain this simple logic to adult person like yourself.

Well you are barking at the wrong tree…I have mentioned that veil in this form or shape is not Islamic.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Your statement and my statement have no relation and I have no idea how you came up with this idea!!

I will always judge islam by what’s in its teachings and not by those who may supposedly be following it.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Do you see the contradiction in your statements?

You think Islam gives copyright to men for pleasure…but on the other hand you mention that women are supposedly covered in Islam and are allowed to get pleasure of seeing men…!!
BTW before you get on high horse…none is true.

I could tell you the **philosophy **behind it but will merely say that :

Men have different hormones than women.

Men get more interested in porn than women.

Men do not have so many body parts to ‘show off’ than women.

Women need much more compared to men who get aroused by looking at women.
Have you ever heard of a woman getting aroused by looking at a man’s feet/ankles only or a contest on men’s leg/ankle’s look?

Men don’t get raped by women.

Women are in general weaker physically than men.

Men don’t usually get invited or harrassed by women. Opposite is much more common.

In general, men go for looks more than women do, who go more for overall ‘package’.

Hence more need for women to be covered and modest than men. Not that men can go around naked or half naked and have no modesty at all.
Dress codes are for both in Islam.

These are true everywhere in world and each society. These are not a male chuvinistic thought process.
Now few exceptions may be there in this world population of billions so please don’t give me silly examples.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

You need to study Kamasutra. It will tell you how a woman can enjoy sex even without the involvement of a man.
And yes…Quran talks only of man’ satisfaction…nothing about woman’ sexual pleasure. Show a single verse!

Veil…Yes the author of Islam missed something related to the woman ‘eyes open to the man’ world. It is not your fault.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Yes, Hinduism is a history of evolution of mankind. I cannot compel you to understand it. It is your copyright to reject knowledge.

What is Islam in relation to woman (As per our topic)…….Arabs in 6th-7th century had no respect for women.
They used to marry for one night……The Prophet asked them not to have more than four wives, or to pay a proper amount to thrown away wife.
Harem…..The Prophet did not oppose the idea.
Arabs used to enjoy beating their women (No doubt, they still do), so the Prophet modified it to some extent.

Now tell me if the Prophet totally curbed all ill practices of Arabs? If he had done so, he could gather no followings.

Re: Role of women in world's major religions and why?

Off course….you keep Islam and Muslims at two different angles, and when it suits you, they become synonym of each other.

And whatever it is……I am ready to accept all your allegations if you tell me….

'Can any one count at least fourteen Muslim women out of last fourteen centuries who achieved some goals in public life without any opposition from the religious sector?'

14 centuries and nothing to show………

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Did you find anything wrong in that idea? Or you just want to say something just to say something?

It was not arabs…it was the followers of the twisted version of the previous religious people who needed the revival of their beliefs.
I don’t have to teach you how much opposite the rules were what islam brought to the people in middle east and later almost all over the world. Islamic religion spread with its acceptable ideas within 40 years for one reason…it was natural and sensible and is still sensible. You try to pick on little stuff and purposely ignore the huge impact of Islam on the mankind…since all you learned is from your grandma!

Ask your grandma…Islam gave people of india the idea of respecting women!
Take classes of hinduism otherwise since you never attended any school for it as you say!

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

You won’t find me making irrational statements like this. I would judge islam as per its teachings and not by anyone who claims to follow it.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

So what’s the point? Man can enjoy sex without woman also.
Kamasutra is nothing but a ‘relatively controlled’ pornography. Is that a part of hindu religion philosophy that you are promoting? Remember we are talking about religion.

(You don’t have to tell me that women’s private parts are revealed shamelessly in only one religious material!)

What Quran says is to contain men and give them direction as to what is the right way..and how to avoid breaking the boundaries. Naturally it would admonish and guide men and not women who for the above mentioned reasons are not the aggressors.

You love to repeat yourself don’t you? Read my post three times what I said about the veil. Hope you will understand the point finally.

BTW you never mentioned about the Gopi role in hinduism…the 16000 women intimate with Krishna during his young age!

You think its respect of women or would you start by saying…Today in hinduism…!!!

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

I do not know if Krishna slept with all 16000 women, but what the Indian epics say that he married the ladies of Haram to give them social security.
(And If he enjoyed sex with them, I can only admire it instead of looking for some excuses or justifications.)

If I elaborate the nature of marrige relations of your Prophet, I am sure that the moderators will jump in immidiately.

Re: Role of women in world's major religions and why?

You have definitely convinced me that Islam is the best religion for treating women with all respect in social, political and personal life. And I am sure that you can answer…….

'Can any one count at least fourteen Muslim women out of last fourteen centuries who achieved some goals in public life without any opposition from the religious sector?'

14 centuries and nothing to show………

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

I mentioned about Krishna since its in your religion and you left out conveniently from telling me stories above.
Having intimate relation wih those is described in your religious scripture clearly ,(and you said ‘I do not know if he slept with them’… )
I told you ignorance is no an excuse!

No where it is mentioned in your religion that he provided security to those women or was ‘married’ to even ONE of them! Nice try in your sarcastic remark. It is obvious that you did not use brain before making that comment.

If you make self made, irresponsible and dragatory comments then off course it may be a reason to intervene.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

You tried to lay the ground work for irrelevant question.
Stick to the topic of comparing religions so we can learn the religions by discussion..and not people.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Thanks. I did not think I could do that.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

You have Zero knowledge of Hindu scriptures. Krishna married 16000 slave girls after he freed them from haram of a tyranny ruler.
No where it is mentioned if Krishna slept with them…but instead of looking for excuses I admire his cowboy image and his love, passion for women.

Why did Prophet need to marry minors or beautiful widows…he could make some other relations, he could adopt them or make sister-brother relationship?
But he preferred something else. Any idea…why?

I like it when this guy runs for rules to escape the truth Shall I remind you that the life of your Prophet is a milestone for all Muslims.

OK re religion…Why the Prophet did not abolish harams and lady slavery or prohibit sexual exploitation of lady slaves?
If four wife system was OK for Arabs…what it has to do in other societies? What Allah created for Arabs, why your system carries it to other societies?

Ch. 4/ Al-Nisa…talks a lot with whom a man can sleep and satisfy himself…show me a single verse if it talks about the sexual desire of a woman?

I doubt if Quran considers woman as a full fledge human…one man’ witness is equal to two women’s…why? Why the Prophet was sure that only a woman can forget something?

You escaped the question….How a woman was created as per Islam? I am sure that the description is very respectful for women.

Today only Islam is left with the idea that a girl becomes matured when she achieves puberty, and is ready for marriage. It is totally discarded by medical science.

Is a 9 year old kid ready for making sexual relations…?

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Yes, you have convinced me that your religion is the best and I am still waiting for the answer….

‘Can any one count at least fourteen Muslim women out of last fourteen centuries who achieved some goals in public life without any opposition from the religious sector?’

14 centuries and nothing to show………

I enjoy it…the way they make hify claims.

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

Perhaps you have no idea of your own ‘outdated’ religion.

(I said outdated as you even mentioned its only evolving religion and what right yesterday is wrong today. What is the guarentee what you say today is correct?)

These women only ‘believed’ they were his wives as he helped them released from Naraka-Asura. But he had intimate relations with them.

Stealing clothes of women taking bath…great example of a…ummmmmmmm a playboy? a player? a womaniser?

My dear…based on natural phenomenon and logic…sister-brother relation like this is not allowed in islam. Either two persons are REAL brothers or sisters, or NOT at all!

Not just milestone…its the path to success.

I gave you answer for that.

And medical science proved it, that a girl is capable of becoming a woman when she menstruates and is capable of sexual relation… with childbearing.

Despite all the laws, people/women are defying the laws against early marriages/sexual relationship and teen pregnancies are on the rise!!

(Anyhow, the laws of the world are not to be used as decisive factors for proving or disproving natural or religious rules)

Re: Role of women in world’s major religions and why?

And if you think I have zero knowledge..then let me present this…

"In our two gran Epics Mahabharata and Ramayana I find the relations** towards women very derogatory.**

  1. In Mahabharata Draupadi loved Arjuna. But to justify the mistake made by Kunti all five brothers married her. She was compelled to live with four others apart from Arjuna.
  2. Yudhister the eldest brother of Pandvas lost Draupadi in gambling.
  3. Draupadi’ cloths were removed at the king’ palace and no renowned person objected.
  4. If her husbands were not real cowards they must have fought and defended her at the spot. They did not.
  5. In Ramayana the God Rama fought back his wife Sita from Ravana. And after he compelled her to prove her chastity by entering fire. She fulfilled all his demands. Even after that Rama abandoned her to maintain the sanctity of public opinion
  6. If Rama really loved his wife he could give up the thrown and honor his family.
Is there any difference between the Draupadi cloths removing episode and Phulan Devi rape case?
