Why do people label women who like rich powerful men as materialistic or greedy? Could it be that those women are only looking for some security?
Well the women who stayed in the marriage with such men were looking for security.
The women who divorced them and left them not so "rich" were after money.

-can eventually become really self-absorbed/greedy/materialistic
I agree, only really attractive/beautiful women can keep guys like this interested, since they know they have what it takes to get any girl they want. I was involved with a doctor who earned about $200,000+ a year. He's rich/powerful and his number one demand was a beautiful and intelligent girl. ha I kept him happy with these two things, but that's because I'm still young/attractive/intelligent enough. But I would say it'd he hard to keep up. I don't want to be with a guy who primarily likes me for my looks. It's just too much to bare. And looks fade away. So you don't want him to dump/divorce you when you're older/less beautiful. Well, it didn't work out between us for other reasons, but I thought I should mention this.

Well again times are changing younger men want to be with their families so they make time for them. At least thats what I see amongst my friends but they work themselves till death.. because thats their peak I guess?

Not true. Look at prince William and Kate Meddilton. Nadal, Murray, Djokovich are dating average girls and I am sure many other athletes do too. ohh and Mark Zukkerburg .

You can not paint everyone with same brush. You are making it sound like all rich guys are über superficial and incapable of developing a long lasting loving relationship because they can buy the love of beautiful women. A gross generalization based upon your unfortunate experience.

Well my experience wasn't "unfortunate" based on the topic at hand. It worked okay for me that I had the things he desired. But it really does make you think whether guys who desire young, beautiful wives would truly continue to stay happy with them as time passed and as they got older/less physically appealing.
There are numerous examples of rich, powerful men who are like this (superficial and into young/sexy women) and who divorce their wives when their physical appeal declines. Many of then would not ever settle for normal-looking, average girls.

$200,000 - $400,000 is very common among MDs. All the ones's I know (and I know quite a few) make this much right after fellowship. Heck in certain specialties, $500,000K is easy to make by the time the M.D. is in their mid to late 30's. Based on that.....in your case....what made him so powerful? Did he actually consider himself rich and "powerful"?

^ Actually, he started his specialty in gastroenterology (GI - an area of internal medicine), which upon completion would have him earning way more. Their average salary is $300,000 but he was a workaholic and would have made much more than that. He had positive ranks in the MD community for sure, and was easily able to climb up the latter because of his skills/passion for his work. Trust me, this guy was "powerful" - when it came to rank, status, and wealth.
..I just don't know, though. At the end of it all - his status and wealth didn't keep me satisfied. I am more into the importance of connection, and found these superficial things to be very unimportant/secondary. That's why I wouldn't have been the typical trophy wife who was gold-digging and accepting/tolerant of him no matter what. I truly wanted to know whether he was my soul-mate (and he wasn't). I'm glad things worked out the way they did between us two.

^ LOL…GI, anesthesiology, pain, oncology, radiation oncology, neurology, ER…these and several other specialties make that type of money. He may have had some connections that gave him a sense of “power”…but I find it very amusing that he actually considers himself a “rich man” based on that type of earning. 
Oh well…as you said…everything happens for a reason. I hope you find the one who truly makes you happy.

i also had another question....y is a woman called a gold digger and shallow when she wants a rich guy...but men arent considered shallow when all they want is a "hot gorgeous wife" and thats a demand all across the board. quite unfair. looks and riches should be placed on the same level of superficiality.
Both men and women want looks, whereas you will see far more women chasing wealthy men than vice versa.
Has anyone considered that perhaps women actually do find rich, powerful men to be attractive? Men have evolved to respond to looks, while women value looks as well as security.

Paheli00 - well considering the fact that the average income in Canada is around $46,000 and this guy's earning potential is 10x that - I see him as quite rich. And yes there is status and power that comes with his occupation/connections. I guess it may be debatable about whether he's *really *rich, but I see him as being quite wealthy for sure, especially for someone who is just 29.
I thought I'd give my personal experience because I truly felt that he would be classified as a "rich powerful man" considering what I knew about him. I'm not trying to imply that he viewed himself to be, because he was a pretty humble guy given all the blessings he had. But he was still superficial and desired the perfect trophy-wife you can say.
But anyway yeah it doesn't really matter much now. Thanks for the kind wish. I hope so too. I do want financial security in a marriage, but I have no need to ever be filthy rich in my life. It's just much more important to be with a good human being who you're very much compatible with.
