Ravi Shastri has been offered the position and he said he will “think” about it
I think its agood decision
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
Has Shastri been involved in coaching recently?
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
I dont think so..he was always in the commentators box
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
I think he had some involvment with juniors as coach. He is definitely a smart guy, could be a good coach and good manager.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
i think its a good decision
whatmore should also be considered
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
Its a temp arrangement and Shastri has been offered Coach's position for only Next Month's Bangladesh tour, however Manager's offer is for long term.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
thats a good decision
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
Well in short term as a coach , he has nothing to do really even if they are up against mighty
Bangladesh.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
very good decison .he seems to be a matured and knowledgable person.Atleast thats what i felt ,hearing his commentary.Lets see his work.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
If commentary is the test of somebody's knowledge of the game....Shastri passes it with flying colors.
I like Shastri as a coach.
As a player, he had his limitations but always gave his maximum within them.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
During his playing days, Shahstri was a mediocre player but he was always thought of someone who was good startegist and had good leadership material. In a country where always one of the best player becomes captain, Shahstri never got chance to be a full time captain. he was considered best captain that India never had ( Like Shan Warne of AUS). But whatever limited chance he got he did very good.
He is considered a no-nonsense person and has some good quality to be good coach and manager.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
He is a temporary Coach....but definately suitable as a manager for long term.
Hire Whatmore/Moody after Bong tour.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
looks like Moody going to australia^ according to langer (cricinfo)
whatmore would be a good choice
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
Ravi will be the best coach for India if senior players will support him
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
While a manager just needs management and man-management skills, a cricket coach definitely needs some technical skillset for modern day top-level cricket coaching. What are Mr. Shastri's qualifications to become a coach?

His credential are as good as that of Gaekwad, Miandad, Intekhab Alam or Ajit Wadekar.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
^ Thats what I am afraid of. I don't think folks like Alam and Miandad are qualified any more to be a coach of a national team. Don't know about Messrs Gaekwad or Wadekar. The present lot of qualified coaches provide more value to the team (or should) than making hand gestures from the dressing room.
At the same time, I am keenly curious about the idea that instead of one coach, an international level team should have specific coaches for different aspects of the game (batting, bowling, fielding etc). Teams are certainly rich enough to afford it. And if it helps the team to win, go for it.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
According to the Indian friends I was talking to this weekend at a family get together, Ravi Shastri is a true and through RSS guy. So that sends negative vibes to the muslim players and especially the fast bowlers of the team right now.
Lets see if he can be balanced and deal with equality then how he is perceived. True that he is not the head of selection, but no doubt with his political clout might try to push for some changes.
Indian Fast bowling today in its truest sense is displayed by namely Pathan, Zaheer and Patel.

yes, if fast bowling in its truest sense is bowling at 75M/H.
And you also need to change your friends. They seem to see a conspiracy where there is none. Shastri is an RSS guy !!...wow...for a person who was accused of eating beef in the commentary box...that is a far-fetched claim to make.
Re: Ravi Shastri as manager and coach
^ Well it was a claim made by some ppl. I really don't follow RSS or know much about it if you would believe me. So I took what they said as true.
And when I said fast bowling, I was refering to what Indian pacers can do these day, not fast bowling across the cricketing nations.
I edited my post to clarify this now.
