Re: Rani haars...

wow some really gorgeous jewelry in this thread, makes me wish i had a vintage rani haar!

Re: Rani haars…

** this is also called a chandan haar!**
there you go amani, cucumber- thats what it looks like.
thats exactly what mum’s is like. and yes, its very hyderabadi.

a saath lara, sath lara and rani haar are the same thing, i believe.

Re: Rani haars...

no. rani har and sat lara har are different.

Re: Rani haars...

are they? oops! all the pics i'm seeing they look the same... is it a difference in what kind of gem/gold is used?

Re: Rani haars…

no there is a difference in design. this is satlara . sat means 7.

there are also many different designs in both of these kinds.

Re: Rani haars...

oooh, i see! thanks sheal!

Re: Rani haars…

Oh my gosh, I have got to be the only person who dislikes these kind of haars. They look so gawdy to me. :bummer: The problem that I find with them is that not everybody can pull them off and still look classy.

Re: Rani haars...

it totally depends on what you're wearing too, i think. personally, i dont like saath laras or rani haars- i like the simplicity of the chandan haar, but then i see some brides and they pull it off so beautifully!

Re: Rani haars...

usually it only looks nice on sarees. especially on plane sarees. i think so
:)

Re: Rani haars...

Exactly. The biggest mistake people make is wearing it with the wrong outfit, or with a million other pieces of jewellery. It just looks tacky. Very few brides can pull it off beautifully, and those who do, look amazing. There is no in-between ... either amazing or ridiculous.

Re: Rani haars...

oh lady, it doesn't mean you- you looked lovely!! :)

Re: Rani haars…

I used to hate those type of necklaces when I was younger, I thot they were just really old fashoined and paindu.. (which they kinda are :hehe: )… it just depends on what you wear with it, a big big set like the ones that are in wudnt go nice with a rani haar, but a smaller, somewhat plainer set, wud look nice with a haar..

now if only i cud get used to the big chunky gold ones.. :hinna:

Re: Rani haars...

i don't like the big chunky ones :p
thats why i like the chandan haar- its fairly delicate compared to a sat lara/rani haar. i like the idea of wearing a choker or something closer to the neck and then a really long necklace. in the old days, they'd wear two very heavy necklaces close to the neck and it'd look SOOO overdone. i remember mum's wedding pics.. holy moly! you can't even appreciate her face (she's lovely) cos shes got so much gold and flowers on.

omg! we need a thread with our mum's wedding pics in it! haha

Re: Rani haars...

My moms wedding stuff was VERY simple, I wish there were real pix but this was 1975 Pakistan, i guess there were very few taken.. :( But i think she wore a peach ghaghra, the duputta had that old fashioned fringe on it..

Re: Rani haars...

Ive only eva seen one or 2 dulhans wear a rani haar and they looked incredible. Of course u have to get the whole outfit right with it as well otherwise it will look too much. But i dont think any1 intentionally goes out to look stupid on their wedding day. I mean that girl in the white outfit that we all like doesnt look tacky and she has a lot of other jewellery on as well. It all depends on how u wear it and personally from what ive seen it looks amazing.

Groovychick: Ive neva seen a chandan haar b4 but it looks nice!

Re: Rani haars…

Nice one..
