about that study...I put the link in the "human race" thread...its really utterly fascinating. They go back to the dawn of time, starting with "Adam", take a look at the link and the study...we want to participate, havent dont it yet but we do really want to join in.
me too. since i'm brown, i know for sure i'm a mix of everything. it would be really cool to know if most of ancestors stayed in the subcontinent or some came from far off regions.
from the NG website. the project gives an ancient history, not the most recent one. though just to learn the ancient one, some people would be dissapointed :whistling

a family friend's daughter had done a biological research project where she swabbed a konkani(GSB) and she also swabbed various other types of Indians and she compared the results with the results of a kashmiri(kashmir valley) and she found that the konkani(GSB)'s DNA was similar to that of kash person's. I really have no idea of the exact details of her research and who knows whether her results are accurate or not.
I'm from the Konkani community so it is something of interest to me.
I would love to find out my actual ancestral history though....I might spend that $100:D

if putting something that looks like a qtip inside your mouth on the ionside of the cheek so it gets coated with your saliva is considered painful, then yes, this may cause excrutiating pain. :(

what's konkani?
Konkan is a small region in the western coast of India spread from Maharashtra into Karnataka. These people speak a language which is very close to Marathi. I have seen Konkani muslims who happened to be quite fair skinned. I think Goa is a part of Konkan region. Recently Konkan rail route was constructed which is considered one of the great engineering feat by Indian standard.

Well; it is said that the Khatri caste have some greek ancestory back to the days of Alexander the great.
And almost all the actors in Bollywood are from the khatri caste:
Kapoor, Khannas, Arora, Bedi etc etc

But Vinod Khanna, Anil Kapoor etc. look dark-skinned to me. We have had some Punjabi Khatris(like in 1000s) in 4 villages surrounding ours in 1947- they all gladly accepted Islam.
