Quota system in Pakistan.

Is it not a high time that we abolish quota system in Pakistan and let merit play its part in bringing peace and prosperity in Pakistan ?
There has been no slavery system in Pakistan which necessitates quota system for admissions to professional institutions and government jobs.
Why Private sector is flourishing in Pakistan despites so many setbacks and rampant corruption in every sector of economy ? I think it is because when it comes to hiring, the private sector hires talent only and ignores the ethnic or residential background of the job applicants. Why can’t the bureaucrats learn this simple lesson ?

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

They do not apply the qouta system in cricket, because they will see the results instantly and its not possible to hide it from public. Imagine a cricket team, with 3 players from punjab, 3 from frontier, 3 from sindh and 3 from baluchistan. Results will be even worst than now.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

^ Dude, the quota system will result in: 5 players from Punjab, 2 from Sindh, 1 from NWFP, 1 from Baluchistan, 1 from FATA, 1 from Kashmir.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

IC. anyways results will be a disaster.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

So if the innocent little game of Cricket will be a disaster due to quota system then how can the country be on the right track ? Makes you wonder. No ?

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

^ I agree, the quota system has been and will continue to result in disaster. It was put into place to please the rural population of Sindh as they couldn't compete with the immigrants post partition which resulted in discrimination and ethnic divide in the province.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Actually, there should be no quota system in federal jobs as well. It is unfair that one province should get 56 percent of jobs just because of population, and worse is that most of those jobs go to cities of North Punjab. If people from Lahore and Gujranwala can represents people of Punjab than why not people from Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkar and Mirpurkhas?

I think that interview in government jobs have to go too, as most nepotism and provincial discrimination happens in Pakistan during interview. A person can be determined fit for job through medical check-up, aptitude and other tests.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Please keep the discussion limited to merits and demerits of Quota system of Pakistan.
If you want to talk about anything else open a new thread on that topic, thanks.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

funny people are these indian muslims(biharis, upites etc etc), doest it make sense now?

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

ok something about the topic, I doubt that any of main stream party will DARE to touch quota system since there is much to loose than gaining anything. PPP vote bank is RURAL SIndh, if RURAL SINDH looses QUOTA it means PPP will loose the votes. as for Urban SIndh, MQM although talks about QUOTA SYSTEM but they will not dare to do anything about it, coz ONCE QUOTA system is gone, urban population will start questioning about OTHER issues, and that is something they dun wanna deal with.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Not really, it was mainly Sindhis for whom Quota system was created in Pakistan while you compare immigrants with their "Indian cousins"... I don't see any correlation.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

We have discussed quota system in Pakistan in many other threads.
Its a failed system in Pakistan.

In India its different because muslims there have shown their qualities in the past as educated people (before partition) and systematically were drawn out of education, businesses and jobs to punish them from having their 'cousins' either voting for the Pakistan or losing everything they had including many lives for the sake of Pakistan .......where......... 'cousins' of Shawaiz_K would get all the advantage (from evil quota system) for just being muslims and many of his counsins/ancestors even voting against Pakistan.

Thanks to immigrants from India the country survived through hardship of early days and still Karachiites pay all the bills and native sardars/waderas and choudhries continue to defer taxes despite owning lands in acres.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

On the contrary qouta system according to what i know was created by none other than liaqat ali khan for Muhajirs , thats why they continued to migrate till 1955 coz they could get jobs in Karachi.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

First let me say that personally i have never benfitted from qouta system and nor does it benefit my community.

Qouta system is a universa phenomenon and is present in US.

Its not a level playing field for people from under develped people to compete with people from big cities who enjoy better education and better facilities. Qouta system should exist, the need is that it be made more fair. A person from "rural" Sindh shud not qualify for qouta if he has been educated in a Karachi elite school. It shud be made sure that its the poor that benefit from qouta and not waderas.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

^ he got a point there, it should exist and MUST be forced in other provinces too. and we will dicuss it again after 20 30 years time. :chai:

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Lets check out the constitution when it was first carved in, by any chance do you have a reference for that?

EDIT: According to information I have gathered, quota system was introduced in 1956 for Women's representation (nothing to do with Mohajirs). In 1973 constitution areas/region based quota for jobs was introduced but it was for 10 years then it got renewed to 20 years and then in 1999 it was extended till 2013.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

quota system definitely not working to produce one of the best working institutes, but somehow it tries to give chance to people from rural and un privillaged areas of the country.

there will be no need of quota if whole country has access to same basic amenities as in urban areas. so people get fair chance first to prepare for level playing field.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Indian muslims are lagging behind others in India largely due to their own attitude towards life - uneducated and with large families!

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Quota system is loosing its significance. People are indifferent to it now.

Re: Quota system in Pakistan.

Quota system is not a solution for anything. Its a way to avoid the real solution. If certain people are deprived of opportunities they deserve, the solution is, to provide them equal opportunities. Snatching opportunities from other deserving people, is not a solution, not even a workaround.
