Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

I think the resistance comes when you try to bring someone in lower cadre (as from Arab to desi Hindustani).. In case of Pashtun / Baloch identity, both groups have no problem as such. Its political differences at best.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

I think every group considers itself superior, which is a common human trait.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Its opposite, Pathans along with mughals, syeds, muslim-rajputs etc are considered ashrafia.........

the question arises why low-caste hindus converted to islam if ruling class of muslims (turks, mughals, pathans etc) imposed themselves as high caste people on indigenous population?....................no shudra or dalit who converted to islam , gained equal status as these ashrafia.................

Same origin but different tribes, same language but different dialect. While Culture, traditions and customs are same, so is pashtunwali. Pashtuns of balochistan speak softer sheen dialect similar to people of kandahar of Afghanistan while pashtuns of entire peshawer valley (peshawer, mardan, nowshera, swabi, charsada) speak hard kheen dialect like jalalabad and kabul of afghanistan.

The purple region in following map is pashtun belt of balochistan, relatively more fertile and dense than baloch belt…they are 50% population of province.

The main pashtun tribes in balochistan are, Kakars, achakzai, spin tarin, tor tarin, mando khel, sherani, jaffar, luni, kansi etc

The peshwer valley is very dense, has poulation of about 9 million people…it is heavily mixed, khalils, khattaks, afridis, daudzais, yousafzais, mohamnads, utmanzais, gadoons etc are prominent tribes.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

You would be surprised to hear that People of Dir, buner, swat, shangla, batagram, malakand, mardan, swabi and tor ghar are mostly yousafzais and they are all pashto speaking.......................yousafzai is largest tribe in khyber pakhtunkhwa

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

They must be yousafazis of rohailkhand, india. They are known as Rohillas and they ruled and colonized that region…they have lost pashto and speak urdu. Some of the famous rohillas are najibudulla who invited ahmad shah abdali to india. general bakht khan, the prominent leader of 1857 uprising. Maulana mohammad ali jauhar. and General akhtar abdul rehman, the ISI chief who played key role in soviet-afghan war.

Yousafzais also established state of tonk within the homeland of rajputs, rajasthan.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Its actually baloch tribes (mari, bugti etc) who reached north-westren Baluchistan from iran side. Pashtuns of sulieman mountains are the original inhabitants of north-western balochistan, it is birth place of pashtun people from where they spread to afghanistan and tribal areas. Upto 1893 the region from quetta upto sibi was part of Afghanistan, was handed to british in durand line treaty................British incorporated these regions with some baloch areas and termed it British balochistan. Most of the balochs were living in Qalat state, not british balochistan which was pashtun majority except mari and bugti tribes. Muslim leagui leaders from balochistan like qazi mohammad isa were pashtuns.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

In History forum, Mir Baloch posted some material against this perception.

http://www.paklinks.com/gs/indo-pak-history/624423-treaty-of-kalat-in-1758-between-kandahar-afghanistan-and-kalat-balochistan.html

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Mir baloch is right , Kalat was vassal state of durrani empire rather than part of it. Baloch people were allies of Afghans rather than their subjugated subjects…balochs contributed troops to durrani military compaigns, chief of kalat himself rode with Ahmad shah abdali to panipat war.

But here i am not talking about Kalat state or baloch areas, the pashtun belt of balochistan was part of Afghanistan untill 1893…baloch nationalists and separatists do not claim any pashtun territory of balochistan. Here is durand line treaty,

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

So Quetta was always a Afghan / Pashtun city?

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

There is a vast different in both these Pathans I think

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Explain please. What about Miyanwali ka Pathan?

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Pathans from Mianwali are awesome :ik:

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

Mianwali’s Pathans came from Quetta or Peshawer?

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

^ they would be through Peshawar. Quetta is far away. There are Pashtuns throughout Punjab. Kasur used to be Pashtun ruled, the kasuris are Pashtuns and in rural Punjab we have got durranis, lodhis and kakkay zais.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

How come? Can't they be from tribes who moved to Sahiwal and adjoing areas during war between Rinds and Lasharis at the time of Chakar Khan?

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

They were Baloch no? Baloch are there in south Punjab and then you can trace them in other areas as well. I have studied with a Baloch from Jhelum.

Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan

This is something about the settlers in Mianwali

History-Gazateer of Mianwali

Mianwalis Pathans might be from KP as Mianwalis borders are connected with KP and Attock.
