Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan
So Quetta was always a Afghan / Pashtun city?
Quetta itself is pashto word which means room..........Quetta region was part of kandahar, it was sparsely populated area inhabited by pashtun kansi tribe......British laid the foundation of quetta city in 19th century so the city itself is not historical one while villages around the city were always pashtun.......hazaras got settled in quetta from central Afghanistan in 1890s when they rebelled against amir abdul rehman there. Balochs begin to settle in the city after it was made capital of their province.
The historical centre of balochs was always kalat. Quetta is associated with pashtuns.

Yar tum ne tou pathano ko sirf 2 cities tak mahdood kar diya :) aapka taluq kahan sey hey?
My family has business in mianwali so i know alot about the area. There are three types of people in mianwali.
1- Pashtuns
a- Niazi is the main tribe , most of the people of isakhel tehsil which lie east of indus river, are niazis. they are also found in areas of mianwali across the indus. They are almost half of the total population of district. They migrated from ghor province of afghanistan few hundred years ago and settled in lakki marwat district of kpk. From there they came to miawali, defeated jats and ghakkars and settled there. With time they lost pashto and adopted seraiki. They look like pashtuns, have retained tribal framework i.e they have jirga system and their villages names end with -khel. Some of the niazi villages still speak pashto but majority are seraiki speakers. many can speak pashto as second language due to close proximity with kpk.
They are socially and politically ruling class of mianwali.
B- khattaks
Kalabagh region is inhabited by pashto speaking bangi khel khattaks, its ruling family is awan though. khattaks are culturally and linguistically full pashtuns.
C- bilach
Not to be confused with ethnic balochs, they are pashto speakers in south minwali and are proud pashtuns.
2- jats and awans
Original inhabitants of mianwali,
3- Settlers from east punjab
they migrated from east punjab and settled here in 1947, they are concentrated in mianwali city and other towns. they speak punajbi instead of seraiki
Mianwali was part of bannu district upto 1970, after dissolution of one unit it was given to punjab.
Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan
^ they would be through Peshawar. Quetta is far away. There are Pashtuns throughout Punjab. Kasur used to be Pashtun ruled, the kasuris are Pashtuns and in rural Punjab we have got durranis, lodhis and kakkay zais.
Pashtun population of kasur has dwindled, it was colony of kheshgi and zadran tribes of pashtuns.....babur gave them kasur as reward for their role in war against lodhis......mughals were chaghtai turks but a potion of its soldiers which accompanied him from kabul were pashtuns. it is said that ibrahim lodhi himself was beheaded by a pashtun soldier of mughals named saleem khan zadran......the bulk of kheshgi tribe and zadrans migrated from afghanistan along with mughals.......in sikh history kasuri pathans are known for repelling three large invasions of ranjeet singh......after defeat in fouth invasion sikhs must have slaughtered bulk of pathan population of kasur......there is book about pathans of kasur in urdu, "afaghana-e-kasur" by mohammad ayub khan
Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan
I’m from Hyderabad Sindh and now Karachiite ![]()
Thats what I was thinking that if Niazi’s are Pashtuns, why they speak Saraiki. But most races adapt language of the new land after migration.
So all the Pathans having Khel in their names (like Kaka Khel, etc) are Khattaks?
Whats their origin? I really misunderstood them as Baloch ![]()
but why?
Re: Quette ka Pathan, Peshawar ka Pathan
Their case is similar to jadoons (a pathan tribe) of abbottabad. jadoons is major tribe of abbotabad population-wise yet they adopted hindko language.
Any pashtun tribe/sub-tribe can have name ending with -khel or -zai. In this case almost all niazi sub-tribes have names ending with -khel e.g imran khan’s tribe is shilmankhel while sher afgan niazi’s tribe is daud khel.
I dont know about their origin…
but why?
