Quetta Mosque bombing / Militants 'claim' responsibility (merged)

Some people in our Muslim ummah are going through a state of denial. 9/11, Mazar e Sharif, and on broader scale Afganistan, Pakistan and Kashmir are all under terror because of havoc caused by a particular mentality of people, i.e. wahabhies or as USA calls them Al-Qaeda or Islamic Fundamentals.

I thought it was a basic thing that in Jihad you don't attack anyone who is defenceless. NO?
[/QUOTE]

You think these people have mental capability to think that? NO

PM Jamali today said that he personally believed that a foriegn hand was involved in these attacks... He probably knows better than us, as to who is responsible, and lets hope that he is succesfull in nabbing those responsible...

It was heart breaking to hear about this today. Our leaders are in denial and doing nothing to stop this. Where is the MMA? Why aren't the mullah's declaring jehad on sectarian violence? Where are the futwah's regarding this issue? Where are the solidarity marches declaring we are all Muslims? Unless ofcourse these people are part of such actions.

In my mind, there is no such thing as sunni, shia, wahabbi, etc. You are either a Muslim or not. You either believe in the Quran and the finality of the prophet or not. Everything else is just propaganda. My parents once told me I was a sunni, but I don't believe that nonsense. If every Muslim can teach their kids just that, we could unite the Muslims under one banner. I pray for such a day.

I the meantime, these cowards who did this terrible crime, need to be rounded up and made to suffer for the rest of their lives. Execution is too small of a punishment for such cowards.

Just like I said before, this attack was more targeted towards the ethnic Hazara minority of Quetta. The city and adjacent areas such as Chamman happen to be dominated by the Pashtoons, and a lot of them are refugees from Kandahar who have grown up there. There's deep resentment against the Shias and Hazaras in general for their role in toppling the Taliban.

Hatred knows no boundries, and innocent are being killed, whether the Pashtoons in the hands of Northern Alliance thugs- backed by the US, or the Hazaras in Baluchistan...

ISLAMABAD, July 5: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said he was pained at the Quetta incident, and requested the Hazara community to show utmost restraint. He said it was the second incident in which the "progressive Muslim community was targeted".

Gen Musharraf, speaking to newsmen at the airport, said it was yet not clear who was behind this crime. He said the matter would be investigated thoroughly and an appropriate action would be taken against the perpetrators of this heinous crime. In case of a foreign hand appropriate action would be needed, he added.

He said there was a need to check the use of mosques to propagate hatred against adherents of opposing schools of sectarian thought.

"I had talked to the Nazims about the issue, and want that the mosques should not be allowed to be used to spread hatred against others. These obscurantist mullahs incite the illiterate, and barbarians to kill in the name of religion," he added.

He said the Quetta incident had not only damaged the name of the country, but also disgraced Islam, which is a religion of peace and love

Aray, our esteemed religious leaders i.e. the likes of Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Qazi Hussain, Sami ul-Haq and co of the MMA alliance are hundreds of miles away in Islamabad, Karachi or Peshawar. You would think they would be in Quetta at this time condoling with the families of the martyrs killed, taking out processions in Quetta and the rest of Pakistan protesting at this massacre, and showing steadfast solidarity with our Shia Muslim brethen. But no they have more 'important' priorities than doing these sort of things, and don't hold rallies of protest and solidarity for this sort of event or issues fatwa's and declare a Jihad against these crimes. How can these people ever teach others about the unity of Muslims when they (these MMA leaders) cannot even pray in the same Mosque together?

Prime minister Mr. Jamali annouces compensation

400,000 RS. to each injured person

3 more people have been rounded up! All detainees said to be the member of banned group L-e-J but the paramilitary forces are also looking for another aspect, possiblily a foreign hand behind this terorist act against innocent people. Some detainees are Afghan Nationals.

I believe 8lakh rupees were paid the family members of the deceased, and 4lakh to the seriously injured ones, 2 lakh to the less injured ones...

The army has taken control of the city, and there have been some shufflings and suspension on the part of the police officials in the city…

LAHORE—The Muttahidda Majlis-i-Amal observed Friday as protest day to condemn the killings in a Quetta Mosque in which over 50 persons were killed on July 4 last.
MMA took out protest processions after Juma prayers through out the country. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the massacre. They also urged the authorities to expose hidden hands behind the terrorist incidents and take stern action to stop such incidents in future. The speakers stressed sectarian harmony and tolerance in the society.
In Lahore, a large number of people including women and children led by Islami Tehrik-i-Pakistan Secretary General Allama Sibtain Kazmi gathered outside Lahore Press Club and chanted anti-US and anti-Musharraf slogans. They were holding banners and placards and demanded capital punishment to the killers. **They also shouted ‘Shia-Sunni Ittehad Zindabad’ ** and reposed confidence in the leadership of Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi, the Islami Tehrik Chief. The protesters demanded of the authorities to start grand operation for recovery of illegal arms and arrest killers of Quetta carnage.
MMA Deputy Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, ITP Secretary General Allama Sibtain Kazmi, Ijaz Hussain Naqvi, JUI leader Maulana Amjad Khan, Karamat Ali Rushdi, Tehrik-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Chief Pir Asif Ali Gilani, Allama Hafiz Kazim Raza of Jamiatul Muntazar, Shia Political Party Chief Syed Naubahar Shah, and Talaat Zainab Kazmi addressed the protesters.
Addressing the demonstrators, Liaqat Baloch expressed sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved families of Quetta mosque bloodshed and the injured. He demanded debate on the incident in the Balochistan Assembly. The rulers would have to be answerable before the people on the tragic incident, he said, and warned the rulers not to pose the incident as sectarianism. He said that the incident occurred after the terrorists were released from jails. He said that Shia and Sunni sects of Islam have no differences and the incident was terrorism.
Allama Sibtain Kazmi said the entire nation was united against the terrorists. ** ‘The terrorists believe in no religion. They are terrorists only. The religion promotes peace and tolerance, not killings,’ he said. **
Allama asked the government to curb terrorism, otherwise, he warned the people would take revenge which will lead to chaos and disaster. He said that government has failed to provide security to the people even in their homes and mosques. He believed that insecurity was growing among the masses.
Maulana Amjad Khan demanded resignation of Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat pleading that he has failed to maintain law and order in the country.
Syed Naubahar Shah alleged that the government and agencies were responsible for the terrorist incident in Quetta and they know who were the killers.
The protests were also held in Sargodha, Rajanpur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Chakwal, Vehari, D.G. Khan, Bahawalnagar, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.

It's kinda like when Bush says he is for the environment! What an oxymoron.

:jhanda:

Come on guys. First, MMA is criticized for not protesting, and now for protesting :konfused:
At least they came out and expressed for Sunni-Shia unity.

Isnt it funny how some pro-mush guppies here, after this attack immediately started criticizing the MMA, who had nothing to do with this? They were saying things like the MMA leaders would never pray in the same mosques are Shiates? well duh, no Sunni would do that. kher, now that the MMA has held a rally against these attacks, which these musharraf supporters were demanding, they are still the bad guys like always :hehe:

yara, that not true. I have prayed in Shiite mosque many times, you do know that theres nothing inherently wrong in Shia beliefs. 1/4 of my family is Shia, and I must admit my guard was up for them after the Quetta massacre. I don't want to to turn this into a religious discussion but many of the people supporting the MMA hold extremist Sunni beliefs. I am not saying that MMA is directly responsible for the massacre but it certainly must account for it's extreme rhetoric.

This is incredibly appalling that Shias, Christians, Ahmadis have been targeted in Pakistan. The MMA must ensure that their rhetoric does not inflame passions further. We Pakistanis are tolerant, progressive people, we must not let Islam and our Mulk down by letting such crimes occur.
