Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

And for those of you doubting this guy, read the posts, its him, if you still think its not, leave the thread in peace please.

Hes spending so much time answering ppls questions in great details so plz be courteous.

Lucan Sahib, you mentioned DTS sound. I was curious, does it comply with international DTS standards while filming, its pretty technical, as DTS involves alot of sampling, various angles and all, I bet it hikes up the budget too.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

well, it should be an honour for musharaf to be named after Bush.. saying Bush is not name calling :flower1:

Peace …

let’s discuss the beaten to death topic of ishq vishq movie and gandaasaa :jhanda:

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Mr Lucman, it's really heartening to know that we actually have some new equipment coming into our industry -- finally! I've always felt the Lahore producers are not exactly the most appropriate people for film making anyway. Their attitudes and mindsets are simply amazing. This is cliched, but rather than simple "educated" people, we need more "polished" * folks coming into finance these films. And some more directors like you too! Its so cool that being an industry insider you get to see the rushes of all these cool flicks these amazingly talented people such as Shoaib Mansoor are making.

I thought Azhar Burki's [or was it Waqar Bukhari?] work in Guns and Roses-Ik Junoon was fabulous. Some of the shots were at par with let's say, some hollywood flicks. The songs were very well shot. What's your take on that?*

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

ok serious suggestion.

Luqmaan saab, dont you think our people have had enough of this pyaar/muhabbat, ishq vishq type stories.

The people of the subcontinent are being showed and fed on the same damn theme for decades. Prominent film makers in India are finally adopting alternative story lines, and its a welcome change.

Dont you think, its about time we bid farewell to the IshqVishq theme, and consider working on historicals and other story lines, stuff that is actually meaningful and purposeful.

You said it yourself, that video is the absolute medium. Why are we then not willing to use it for the absolute purpose?

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Well thanks once again to all of you. Spock yes the DTS we are talking about is the same that you haev in mind and yes that is what makes it very expensive. I cant complain I still got a better deal than a few others like Reema and all. Our film is still more expensive for other reasons the cameras, the crew, the overseas shoots in two countries the wardrobe, make ups, etc. Our music is also more expensive than others and I hope it will reflect that.

I still feel that DTS is not the best answer to our woes. Even Internationally the system is having lots of problems, liek disk errors etc. In pakistan we haev serious issues like dust, untrained staff who smoke and eat and drink in the same cabing that have the drives etc. This pollutes the system and a lot of times our Disks are scratchy and dustry as a consequence they get distorted. I think the answer to our woes is Dolby Digital Surround. This is more compact, less technical in terms of day to day operations and backed by superirior company in terms of after sales serve. But lets see how it goes. Both DTS and Dolby are aiming to break new grounds in Pakistan and interested to have a training seminar there for operators and all. Yesterday I had a detailed meeting with a senior engineer of DTS and he was explaining what they plan to do.

The reason why we are in Thailand is primarily because of the DTS system and thats what we are getting over here. This is the famous lab of Technicolor where the big Hollywood productions were done, like Lord Of The Rings, Spider Man, Tomb Raider, War Of The Worlds and so many otehrs they are working for all major US studios out here.

Reema nd Irfaan Malik did their DTS and all sound in India and are only taking out their film prints here. We are doing the entire project here. But we have faced a tremendous amount of difficulties as our systems back home do not support or configurate with International Protools and ADRs. Hence we still may nto get the desired results but it would still be better than what you are used to in pakistani films. i am seriously studying to import the entire protools systems in Pakistan so we can atleast begin to follow International standards btu I am still not sure if others will use our facility as they are bent opon their old practices.

Bolly Buster I have responded to your private mail please check yours messages.

Nirma and Resham too are not computer savy and anything that cant be done on the cell phone is not on for our majority of actresses perhaps one very very intelligent and educated girl is Mehr hassan. she is amazing and has studied acting in the US and is also working in South Indian Films for th elast three years or so.

Yes I do get to see rushes of some but that is only when they want me to see them and they need an opinion on something. When Shoiab started I was the first one to fight with him to change his camera and thankfully he did and you will see the results.
Unfortuantley our industry in lahore is a very closed circuit we do not share any information with any one. If we haev to we lie. this is one major reason why we keep on making hte same mistakes in our producitons again and again and again so regularly. You may see our films nad think we dont learn but its the same for us inside the way it can be for you outside. Being on this forum has given me the opportunity to learn a lot more than you can even imagine. I will just give you one example, in the 57 years of our film history there has never been a consumer survey to determine wht they want???No technical surveys either to find out deficiencies and emerging trends. By being on this forum it is gving me the ideal opportunity to get a first hand feel of the choices our youth are ready to make. I mean untill today maybe I would not have given a thought to a film other than a love story but now I definitely can.

But wait!!!!!! A majority of the films are based on the same subject even if oyu do not realise. Take ET for instance, you haev most ugly most despicable creature from outer planet and by the time the movie is over oyu are in total love with it. The emotion is there always but the presentation is different. I know there are plenty without it as well but just to give oyu an example that doing a love story is not a bad idea doing it the different way or in a new manner is the key to success. Other wise how will you get to see a film like, "Sleepless in Seatlle"? Beautiful heart melting love story wont oyu agree?

Guns N roses was a very good film in its time and age. I totally agree with you but there is one thing I shall always speak about. Your film must have a a good story line, if it is confused or distorted in any way you will be crucified. I mean your viewers may xcuse you for week editing or not the ultimate photography but they will not excuse you for a bad story. temember the difference between a director and a writer is one and one only.. A writer puts the story on a paper. A director puts it on film.....the director in reality is a story teller, never forget that my friend, story is the most important single factor in film making....

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Well said Mr. Lucman!:biggthumb I really hope you have lived by it in your own film(NO sarcasm intended:bukbuk2:).

I just want to share my observation with you. I happened to watch some hindi films made by the younger crop of pseudo-directors (as in directors by fluke due to mumy papa being in films) I feel the reference point for the treatment of the film has been taken from some old pakistani tv drama especially haseena moin’s dramas the same romantic feel light hearted moments with equal dosage of sadness and humor(only that haseena moin is a talented writer and they aren’t). Take for example in that crappy film k3g the character played by kajul(or kajal or whateva) was a complete take off on Tara’s character from shehzori . Just watch shehzori and you’ll instantly recognise it. similarly the goody two shoes guys u see in their films are taken from the ‘zain’ character in tanhayain -the good hearted guy who sacrifices for others.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

alot of indian films have been inspired by our dramas, i remeber alpha bravo charlie turned into lakshya and humatun saeeds character in mehndi was played by srk in kal ho na ho.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Humayun Saeed’s character in MEHNDI was played by SRK in KAL HO NA HO:confused:

:nono: :nono: :nono: WRONG SUHAIB, no comparison whatsoever but i do agree with Alfa Bravo Charlie and Lakshya.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

If you are a leader otehrs will always follow you. I can show you a hundred examples when the Indians have copied us and vice versa as well. What we must do is to look at the future and concentrate on coming up with regular quality creative work. This way we will always be market leaders and if someone copies us then so be it why feel bad when we can have a great feeling to know that we are being copied again and again,

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

That’s all fine and dandy but why the hell copied stuff becomes more qualatative than the original? :hoonh: :bailan: if it is done by indians but opposite otherwise:D

by the way, the only place indian copying is worst is when they try to copy old PTV dramas:D they suck big time :hehe:

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Lakshya was heavily inpsired by Sunehrey Din as well. Just that the indians can never come up with a script like Shoaib Mansoor’s.it a far cry for them. No wonder Naseeruddin Shah came running to Lahore to be a part of Shoaib’s film. He must have been starving for proper scripts.

I have heard films like dil wale dulhaniya le jayenge and hum apke hain koun are all copied from old pakistani films. I don’t remember the names of those pakistani films but I do remember reading about them in a local newspaper. But hum dil chuke was a definitely inspired by Sargam. not like scene to scene copy but the main plot and a couple of scenes were lifted.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Well numerous films are a copy some even a direct liftoff. LIke Baghbaan was a pure lift off from Insaaniat. Insaniat was directed by S. Suleman about 30 years ago with Agha Talish and Sabiha Khanum int he roles that were later played by Amitabh and Hema Malini. Scene by scene the works. There ar emany others, Chalte Chalte was copied from Aina by Nazar Ul Islam and one can go on. But thats not the point lest not simply revel in that the fact is that even if they were copies they were made into terrific films and they managed to move us. We haev to stop revelling too much into history and start to develop our own stuff that is contemporary and meaningful. Qayamat Say Qayamat Tak that started the current upword trend of Indian Film industry was inspired by Armaan a Waheed Murad Film. Well what really matetrs is can we ourselves do a remake of those greats and deliver the goods, we haev to be honest with ourselves. I guess one major reason the Indians are left out in the dry is that they practically bulldozed Urdu language out of their systems. Consequently some of their leading artists liek Aamir Khan etc cant even read Urdu script. Which means that they haev in one go cut themselves off from a major literature adn now they ahev no coice but to copy from whatever we do or haev done be it our past films or currnt television dramas.
What they ahev done and done well is that they have glamorised their television screens a lot. Untill some time back 70 % of their content on tv was taken from films. Now even their television productions haev the same technique and glamour that films are supposed to haev. Now even television artists or VJs are big stars the film stars haev to compete for their own share of stardon and market share.

If we are to strengthen our industry then like I haev bee saying we ned to introduce the subject in colleges and schools and pitch it forward like any other decent social porfession. Right now it is not an acceptable norm of life for most families in Pakistan.

I do not want to bash anyone simply wish to state that we must get our own house in order accept the blame for our folies and define a new paradigm Shift and reevaluate our cultural and fine arts in evry possible aspect. Technology is one and technique is another but what we ned on an urgent basis are youngsters who have the exposure to stand out amidst the crowded corridoors of show business.

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

I must say Im impressed by your technical knowledge on digital audio... Good luck with bringing Pro Tools to Pak!

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

I understand your viewpoint and agree with you that we should not just revel in past glory and actually do something substantial in present time to prove our mettle.
But the reason for mentioning those cases of plagiarism is to justify my point that if a person goes and steals a car ,shows it off as his own and impresses everyone. does he deserve any praise ? yeah, impress you would be coz’ the car is cool but the way it has been acquired that medium is anything but deorgatory. what bugs me is when ppl say oh Bollywood is great ( our own newspapers like instep go on wasting thier front pages on glorifying bollywood) and blah blha blah . it doens’t deserve this praise. great films don’t cheat you , great diretors don’t copy others work and pass it on as their own(they have better morals), and great stories do not need expensive props to make them interesting. that’s what bollywood is reliant on.

I never knew Armaan is the inspiration for qayamat se… .But I have seen Armaan and I did not notice this. Can you tell me in what way was it inspired? or was it some other film?

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

its sooooooooooo heart breaking 2 listen that PPP wd b releasd a week late...the reason behind r very wise and appropriate...but still....it hurts...(;()

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Huh? A week late? When did this happen??

Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)

Saad why are you trying to sensationlise things??? You know the reason very well more than any other. For five days I have been down with terrible fever and cold and doctors int eh local hospital were trying to clear me for any alergies as they thought at the outset. Additionally, since that put us back by a week or a little more keeping the weekend, teh DTS sysem had some problem..(Not with us but with the laboratory itself) hence we had to take anotehr three days to complete the film. The news is that the film is ready and will be in Lahroe Tommorow evening Inshallah and so will I be hopefully, am really looking forward to being with my family. But I could nt take the risk of simply letting it go in two days notice, since I haev been away from Pakistan now for many weeks it is important I spend a week if not more advertisign and publicisign the movie. I thinkt his is fairly resonable. I hoep you all agree. This decision was taken yesterday and hence I could not have the time to post it myself imemdiately I had some other pressing matters on my mind like frantic calls from various exhibitors etc.

Best wishes
